Rating: Summary: Sheer Delight Review: This novel has all the ingredients I look for in a good book...honesty, humor and compassion. Otherwise Engaged has all three of my criteria. A sheer delight to read.
Rating: Summary: Eve sounds like a girlfriend we all know Review: This book is so amusing I have found myself laughing out loud. She is like a friend evryone has and is telling her life story in such a real way. I bought this for beach reading, but the book never made it to the beach, I finished in 2 days.
Rating: Summary: I felt as though someone had read my mind.... Review: I laughed out loud so many times that my fiance made me read the book to him! Finnamore went through every emotional step with me - I love him, I hate him, I want to elope, I want to break up, no one's helping, it's not fun anymore, back to 'I love him'... Sharp, sassy and sardonic, you find such comfortable companionship in the heroine, you wish you could call her and share your gripes! The drama-queen antics play out perfectly. A great stress-reliever for any well-educated, grounded, wedding-frenzied engagee. You may not need the Valium after all.
Rating: Summary: Rather deceiving Review: When I first started to read Otherwise Engaged I thought it was a "dark comedy" but so skillful a writer is Finnamore that I found it was a journey into the light of love. Great book!
Rating: Summary: This book rocks! Review: Suzanne Finnamore really gets to the heart of romance and relationships in this book. Her honest, devastatingly sharp-witted and very quotable novel is difficult to put down. Read it on the beach, read it on the subway, read it in a hot bubblebath, but definitely don't miss this one!
Rating: Summary: very witty Review: Very much enjoyed the book. The author has a witty style about her and a sense of humor, and relates the story in a very "tongue in cheek" fashion. If you don't take the story literally as the gospel, then it becomes a charming parody, which is enjoyable and has little bit of "true ring" to the panic which accompanies the right of passage into the world of marriage and the impending loss of independence. Of course, marriage is what the writer really wants, she just wants us to join her in her anxiety attacks on the trip to the alter. Glad she made it, that's a lot of valium.
Rating: Summary: This is why I read! Review: What a fun book to take me away from the daily grind. Her humor is wonderful!
Rating: Summary: FUN! Review: It's funny, it's touching...it's just a good read! Finnamore's writing style makes you feel you're sharing girl talk over a Cosmopolitan. And you don't have to be engaged to enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: A must read for every bride-to-be Review: For any bride-to-be, the months preceeding the big wedding day can be harrowing, nerve-wracking, hair-pulling frustrating. Otherwise Engaged captures these emotions and many more and relates them in a laugh out loud story. A gift for my 30th birthday, I whipped through this book on a train ride to NYC with my fiance. I laughed so hard, I could not stop myself from reading aloud my favorite parts: "My diamond is one perfect carat. Ok, its .81 carats. I round up."I have already passed this book on to another engaged friend. Finally, a book about engagement that looks at more than pretty linens and floral arrangements!
Rating: Summary: A layered Wedding Story Review: I think a lot of people are missing the true core of this book. This is a multilayered book- like a spiral it starts with great humor and slowly you find yourself still laughing but crying too. This is a woman who has earned her position, nothing was given to her and yet through pain and a compassionate spirit she triumphs. It is not what it may appear at first - a delightful fluffy read - it has substance and bravely explores all the fears and agony of loving unconditionally. A brave and complete testament to a gutsy woman's year of engagement.
