Summary: I hated to see it end.
Review: This novel was such a winner I found it hard to believe this was Ms. Finnamore's first novel. She has written a real gem for anyone who loves novels about marriage. I read passages to my husband because I enjoyed them so much. I also found myself laughing out loud. I think Eve is funny and charming and all of her complaints and worries are those of a woman who has done much for love. She has battled and lived to tell about it. Eve's a real dame. I can't wait for Ms. Finnamore's next novel.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I found this book terribly disappointing. The character was unlikable and unbelievable. The story goes nowhere, there is no plot. I had to force myself to read it. I really enjoyed Bridget Jones Diary, and this doesn't even come close.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: not a very nice book
Review: I still can't figure out why this book is being lumped in with the "Bridget Jones" kind of women writers...this woman is negative, unpleasant, and boring. Sure, Bridget Jones is occasionally both negative and unpleasant, but at least she was never boring. which is exactly what this woman was. Nice combination, eh?

When I finished this book, I felt like I had just gotten off a year-long phone call with one of those friends who never has anything positive to say but wants to give you a detailed catalog of her life's miseries from the moment of her conception to the minute before she picked up the phone to call you. I have enough people in my life like this...I certainly didn't need to read a book about someone like this, too.

Summary: It made a difference
Review: I just got engaged and bought Otherwise Engaged. When I read what "Eve" went through by having a year long engagement, I decided to bite the bullet and we got married last weekend. So far, so good. What a funny and caustic look at the American Marriage rites. Terrific!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: I would give it a 1/2 star if i could
Review: This was a trite, unfunny, self-absorbing book. I found the characters unlikeable, the theme ridiculous, and the writing choppy and boring. Bridget Jones is so much more witty! Don't waste your time or dollars. I gave away my copy after reading the first 30 pages.

PS I agree, eve is more annoying than the characters in Ya-Ya Sisterhood!

Summary: A time for laughter
Review: When I read a book I set aside a special "time" - Sure glad I chose Otherwise Engaged for my special time. I chuckled, laughed, and remembering my dad's death, cried. Terrific book!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It takes all kinds I guess
Review: Honestly - I am so grateful that Suzanne Finnamore wrote a book that touches so many nerves in readers. Reading customer comments is getting to be a real lesson in how some people don't know how to lose themselves in a simple love story. Picky, Picky. Glad I am not an author to have to "suffer the slings and arrows etc.,"

I loved this book. Fast, fun and often poignant read.

Summary: Dark Woman
Review: This felt like the house hold that had a black cloud over it. Like the demons of lust and greed and selfishness would eventually take over. No sunshine here. San Francisco in general seems a bit dark, but this couple lived in a cave without love and tenderness. Scarey.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A world with no sun
Review: Otherwise Engaged is such a delightful book. Every page has a literary gem. A pleasure to read such a well written and amusing book.

Summary: People in a Bad Relationship Want to Get Married
Review: I almost bought this for my best friend that is engaged. I thought it would be about the funny events that happen before a wedding. I'm so glad I didn't send it to her! The couple in this book are horribly mis-matched and should not be getting married. I thought their whole relationship was sad...not funny.
