Summary: Funny and very well written
Review: Suzanne Finnamore is a very clever writer and should keep onwriting. I'd like to see her book on motherhood. She is sharp, funnyand sophisticated.

Summary: From the reviewers:

"A joy....The engagement lasts a year, and as soon as the ring is on her finger until two days before the wedding, it is hilariously miserable.....Intelligently done and very, very funny." Gill Hornby, THE (LONDON) TIMES

"...a distinctively wry, endearingly comical voice....should appeal to anyone who can appreciate a cool, clever intelligence capable of discerning the zaniness of the purgatory known as engagement." PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

"Hilarious.....Finnamore is far from a 'Smug Married'..." NEW YORK magazine

Summary: Lovely
Review: It's unusual that a book is hilarious as well as touching, but this one is. Aftre receiving it as a wedding shower gift I didn't know what to expect, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. The voice is fresh, in your face, and touching as well as dead funny. I loved Eve's sharp wit and the Jill character as well -- every time she appeared I was delighted. Highly recommended.

Summary: I am amazed
Review: I am amazed at the juvenile reviews some of the public give - "this woman needs help?" does this reader realize this is a novel? But, some of these "reviews" made me curious about Otherwise Engaged - so I bought it. Loved it! So thanks for the negative reviews - they make a thinking person want to know what all the sophomoric rhetoric is about. Those who CAN, write and those who can't just eat their hearts out.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good News
Review: Good news - a book that has something for everyone. Anger, compassion, humor, and forgiveness. Otherwise Engaged shines like a bright light in a summer filled with fluff books. Treat yourself to a few hours well spent.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Irony is alive and well
Review: I don't usually write reviews, but I had to say how interesting it is how a few bitter angry people write in a say how they think this book is bitter and angry. Funny, wouldn't you say? As the therapist character Reuben says in the book , "it's all projections." I delighted in this book, especially the Reuben character and the parts about advertising, which is just as bizarrely absurd as the author portrays it -- if not more so. I laughed out loud at just about every page, as did everyone I know whom I recommended it to. Read My Date With Satan and Birds of America if you like this kind of humor. Excellent.

Summary: Funny!
Review: I bought the audio cassette version of this book after seeing an article in ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY where they gave it an "A" grade - I was skeptical (The Terminator reads Wedding Story?) but soon gave over to laughter -- listened to it on a long car trip and the miles flew by. This book is hilarious.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Cool
Review: I loved the characters, wanted to know them and thought the tone was fresh and witty. It made ME laugh and I guess that's the bottom line. It's amazing how seriosuly some people take books! Ms. Finamore must have struck a nerve -- I recommend this book for anyone with a sense of humor.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Love and marriage in the nineties in the advertising world
Review: This book really hit the spot with me. My sister is getting married and both she and her fiance are in the advertising business, like the main characters. This novel is poignant and funny and sad and therefore true to life all at the same time. A very easy read that you will enjoy.
