Summary: Otherwise Lucky to be Engaged
Review: I have to agree with a couple of reviews. Being a female, I try to side with my gender but after reading this book, I couldn't do it. All I can say is that, she is lucky to have a guy like Michael. He withstood the true test of time. Kudos to all the men that are like Michael. I think after reading this book, I may have sparked some relationship problems. Not good. Imagine what the power of the mind can do. She does sound neurotic.

Summary: Let's hear it for Michael
Review: Face it - this is the kind of man who is worth fighting for: This quote from page 66. Eve writes: "I had my first in-line roller-skating lesson today, on my new skates Michael gave me for Christmas. He ran alongside, a human training wheel, as I slipped and slid my way down Presidio Street in front of our flat. We went back and forth, his hands clutched in mine.

"I've got you," he said. "You can't fall."

No wonder Eve wants this man.

Summary: This woman is a nightmare ... I think.
Review: Th narrator struck me as the type of person who would engender two totally different reactions in many people, depending mostly on their own gender. As a male (and likely one of the few who read this book), she screamed BAD NEWS from 100 miles away. She was manipulative, moody, depressing and mostly (every male's favorite trait) very high maintenance. Thus, it was difficult for me to conceive how Michael could be remotely interested in her. But then, I began wondering whether women might have a totally different reaction to her, and say to themselves: "I empathize with this woman!" "I want to be friends with this woman!" "I AM this woman!" I guess that if you liked the narrator you might like the book, but if you didn't you probably wouldn't, and I'm in the latter category.

Summary: Otherwise Neurotic: a Review
Review: Going through an engagement is stressful. It is a balancing act, where two (or more) parties juggle individuality with partnership, often while trying to plan a party. I'm on my twentieth month, and I'm certainly frazzled. In this autobiographical tale of engagement, like many, the problems are deeper. While the groom must overcome his post-divorce fear of commitment, the author/bride must conquer her own anxieties in order to live with those of another. Their relationship seemed a bit dysfunctional and the anxieties extreme. Nonetheless, I found myself identifying with their experiences. And many rang true. The author is witty in a neurotic kind of way, and she is enlightened enough to acknowledge her own irrationality.

A word to potential readers: If you do not share the authors political and social views, which are certainly tend to fall on the liberal side of things, you will probably not enjoy this book.

Summary: Too whiney for me
Review: This book was too whiney and the girl was too much of a princess for me to have any feelings for her one way or the other. It's not uncommon in the world today to meet and marry your mate later in life. I didn't feel that she had met her match, though, in this book. I felt that she grabbed the first good-looking victim she could find. Boo.

Summary: Otherwise Engaged -- A fun read.
Review: Any unmarried or recently engaged woman hearing the cruel & constant drumbeat of her biological clock will relate to this wickedly funny and neurotic tale of an engagement. Eve's transition from live-in girl friend to second wife and the hell that breaks loose in between kept me up late laughing! Otherwise Engaged is a fun and hilarious read.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Enjoyable but tended to be a little too long
Review: This book was funny in parts and somewhat enjoyable for the first 100 or so pages. Then I lost interest. I am not sure if I just got bored with all the pre-wedding trauma, but I did skip to the last chapter and read that. Ms.Finnamore presents a very identifable character for us 35+ set, who have not made the wedding trip. I laughed so hard during many passages, and could have sworn she was reading my mind! I hope she writes another book!

Summary: 4 months until June
Review: For all those who are "otherwise engaged" now, this book is a "must read" before becoming June Brides. Wish this novel had been published before I embarked on my one year engagement five years ago. I walked with Eve every step of the way and, luckily for me, my wedding ended with joy too.

What a fun and "so true" novel.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Yucky
Review: This is a self indulgent, sloppily written book about a woman who is desperate, sad and pathetic. True love does exist, and weddings are not filled with insults, ring throwing and male bashing. Easy read, difficult to digest.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Witty, honest, and touching - great read
Review: Wonderful and funny. Am waiting for the paperbacks so I can buy LOTS of them to give to friends.
