Rating: Summary: At Last Review: I was waiting for the paperback of Otherwise Engaged so I could buy lots of them for my friends. With June (the marriage month) coming up this will be a great gift.
Rating: Summary: LOVED it Review: I adored this book. I made myself wait until my boyfriend had actually popped the question before I bought it...and oh, am I glad I did! I may just have said 'no' if I had known what I was in for. I was surprised and pleased by how well it was written - for a first book this was phenomenal. Now of course I'm fiending for more of her books...and of course there aren't any...so I hope she comes out with something new soon! She's a major talent, and I'm convinced I'm not just saying that because I so completely identified with Eve.
Rating: Summary: Save your money... Review: I bought this in hopes of it being somewhat similar to Bridget Jones and was thoroughly let down. The main character is completely nuts, rude, self-centered, and obnoxious throughout the book. She tortures her fiancee with her little insecurities, and makes me feel quite bad for him. Too bad the poor guy had to marry her.
Rating: Summary: Am Waiting Review: What a fun and surprisingly "deep" book. Can hardly wait for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Otherwise Engaged Review: I enjoyed this book so very much. I was laughing out loud during much of it. I am a visual person, Suzanne wrote beautiful "pictures" for me.Good work and I look forward to more from you in the future. Keep those fingers typing.
Rating: Summary: Fast read--but not that enjoyable Review: I do admit, the book is well written. It's fast and easy to read, but its also irritating. The characters in the book are whiny and unsympathetic. The book pretends to be based in reality only to be unrealistic in character and situation. If you get involved in the books you read as much as I do, you will find this book grating instead of pleasurable.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious read Review: I could not put this book down! Although the story takes some depressing turns, I was literally laughing out loud at certain points and reciting the passages to my boyfriend. The humor is so witty-I could not wait to read more. An excellent read-not too serious-but seriously funny!
Rating: Summary: Give us all hope. Review: A really fun read. Not deep and dramatic but, enjoyable none the less. It's not the best work of fiction...but, worth a look.
Rating: Summary: Not since Tolstoy... Review: Only kidding. This book is terrific, and to all the miserable one-star "the protagonist is too whiney"/"too self-absorbed" reviewers out there I can only say, get a life. It's a novel. Fiction, right? And it's funny. I read the whole thing in one sitting. Didn't even stop to eat. I'm male, and I've survived both a one year engagement and fifteen years in the advertising business. Suzanne Finnamore writes insightfully and hilariously about both.I wouldn't want to marry Eve, but there again I don't have to. I don't even have to like her very much. She's someone else's problem, and as such I enjoy her immensely.
Rating: Summary: simply love Review: I read a review that said " Otherwise Engaged is a sort of book cross between Seinfeld and When Harry Met Sally. But it also a journey over treacherous terrain, at the beginning, middle and ending of which is simply love." Loved this book. No note rang false. An honest and gifted writer.
