Summary: Good, but don't plan on laughing too much
Review: The reviews I read before picking up this book lead me to believe it would be light and funny, along the lines of Bridget Jones's Diary. It's not. That isn't all bad--this book is full of excellent observations about love, romance, and marriage that will make you think. It will also occasionally make you laugh, but if you expect to laugh through the whole book, you will be disappointed.

Summary: I expected more =(
Review: The book was cute but I was thrilled with the ending. Everything up towards the end was heart felt and well probably what every woman in America experiences before of during their engagement. But for her first novel, she did a great job and can not wait to read more.

Summary: How refreshing...
Review: I picked up the book, sort of by accident, and I couldn't put it down! I am getting married in 2 months, and have experienced everything that Eve did, and for sure things that most people who get engaged don't talk about. People expect you to be happy and see hearts all the time when you decide to get married... and Suzanne Finnamore's book let's you fight and be unsure and stressed... and still be excited about "the big day"!

Summary: HILARIOUS!
Review: Not mindless, but intelligently written, witty and very realistic book. I don't relate to the character in her situation, but definetely in many of her thoughts, feelings and attitude. Anyhow, for sheer entertainment value and that's what a book should do, entertain, this one is a hit and very underrated. I will be looking forward to more novels by this author as she is extremely talented. I've already recommended the book to others and hopefully this review will do the same.

Summary: Wickedly Delicious
Review: The story is fiction but the emotions are very real and honest. Fun summer read.

Summary: more biting than I thought
Review: I enjoyed reading this book, but it was different than I expected. From the positive reviews I thought it would be a laugh-out-loud spoof of the zaniness of engagement, maybe along the lines of Erma Bombeck. Instead, it was a cynical, wry type of humor -- which is still good, I'm just telling you to be prepared. Also, there are some really dark moments, it's not all comedy. But it's well-written and a fast read, a good beach or airplane book.

Summary: Bit of Fun
Review: I enjoyed reading Otherwise Engaged. The paperback is perfect when traveling and while reading it I laughed out loud several times. A great summer read.

Summary: Love Story
Review: Otherwise Engaged is a love story. It is funny, penetrating and totally honest. Read and enjoy.

Summary: Waste of paper
Review: I'm glad that I waited until paperback to buy this ridiculous "wedding" book. This is a woman who inevitably sees the glass as "half empty" and will never be satisfied with anything or any one. The picture I got of the main character was one of a jealous and unattractive woman, someone who would be lucky to even get a date let alone get a husband.

The comedy in this book was laced with self-hate and other displays of inadequacy that made me feel sorry for the main character, as opposed to cheering them on in the end.

As women, we have matured past the point of reading books like this.

Summary: feet first
Review: i got engaged at 27, and i never wavered during the eighteen months before the wedding. At that age, I didn't think about the "rest of my life," I just forged ahead, blindly (a character in this book says, of her own marriage, "For me, I did it by not looking at it"). Finnamore tells the story of a woman who is engaged at 36. She can't stop looking at it. The reasons to marry blur, and she can't be happy, not for a second, about forging ahead. In fact, she equates marriage with death. This is the difference between engagement at 27 and 36. Those 9 years of singlehood, her extra baggage, the extra baggage of her older groom, all add up to confusion, doubt and sadness-but funny, too, since this is funneled throught a cynical, snappy narrator. This book a confirmation of marriage, none the less. No matter how hard it is to do it, we'll do it anyway.
