Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books from childhood! Review: As a child I grew up reading many books, and the Frances the Badger series was one of my favorites. This book taught me there was no reason to be afraid of the dark, and that scary shadows were just that: shadows. I look forward to reading it to my son.
Rating: Summary: A favorite Review: As a grown woman now, I remember this book as my favorite when I was a small child. And the whole "spanking issue", is just nonsense. I can't help but think perhaps all the "new age" parents out there just need a cause to rally against to feel productive. For petes sake: It's a childrens book, and if you can't help your youngster to understand that it's a book about Badger, and that it's not real, then perhaps you need to spend more time talking, less reading childrens books. All books (children or otherwise) have some element in it that when hyper analyzed could be taken the wrong way. Just enjoy the book, and if your child gets scared, or has questions, try to talk to them about it.
Rating: Summary: My 4 year-old loves it, but beware of spanking references Review: Bedtime for Frances is an endearing book which acknowledges children's fears about bedtime and playfully exposes their favorite ruses for avoiding sleep. A BIG CAVEAT for those who don't believe in corporal punishment is that Frances' father uses the threat of a spanking to persuade her to stay in bed. Try explaining that to a child who never heard of parents hitting their children.
Rating: Summary: A Mom Review: Cute, but it absolutely TERRIFIED my 4 year old. I couldn't even finish reading it; he made me stop. I had to sit in his room with him until he fell asleep because he was so scared. A word to the wise, be sure your child is not afraid of "boogey men", or other things that may be lurking in the dark before taking this book out at bedtime!!! If they're not afraid now, they will be after reading this book. Definitely a better read for an older child.
Rating: Summary: good book Review: Do you ever want to stay up late? Find out what happens in Frances' Bedtime. Frances keeps asking her mom and dad for something like a glass of milk so she can stay up past her bedtime. I think this book is fun and enjoyable because Frances is a lot like me. I like to stay up late too. I learned in this book that you should do what you are told because mom and dad usually know what is best for their kids. See if Frances gets her way.
Rating: Summary: Four Year Old Favorite! Review: Every night a little four year old girl pulls out this story to be read. The pictures are gorgeous. We have this story in a "book of classic bedtime stories", but bought it separately as well because she loved it so much!
Rating: Summary: A Great Bedtime Story!! Review: Frances is a wonderful story for young children. My mom used to read it to me as a child, and I can remember it helping me fall to sleep. Frances goes through the motions of thinking that there is a giant is in her room to forgeting to brush her teeth. This book is useful to parents as a bedtime story and a way to let children know that there are no monsters out to get them. While letting them know that it's safe to go to sleep. This is one of my favorite children's books and would recommend this to any parent. There are also get supplements for teachers and a spanish version, what more could you ask for!I would also recommend the other Frances books in the series as well.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful bedtime story Review: Frances is like many young children who don't like to go to bed and be separated from their parents, and try to put it off as long as possible. We have two boys who remind us a lot of Frances. We have never spanked our children as a way to get them to go to bed, so I don't think it has traumatized them in any way to hear a reference to "spanking". We love all of the Frances books!
Rating: Summary: Bedtime for Frances helps get little ones to bed Review: Frances was a classic when I was little. Now I read the same stories to my son. Whenever he keeps stalling, not wanting to go to bed I pull out Bedtime For Frances and read it to him. He smiles because so many of Frances' attempts to stay up late are so similar to his own. We don't spank, but he gets the idea that going to bed is serious business. When the story is over I ask him, "Now, what is your job?" and he closes his eyes with a sweet smile on his face. We both feel better and I can turn out the light.
Rating: Summary: Spanking the badger Review: Francis was my favorite as a kid - and I love her still. I think it is sad that something as completely wonderful as a Francis book has to spark controversy - but then nowadays what doesn't? Thank God I grew up in the seventies when we were still allowed to have fun, be kids and yes, occassionally, get our little badger bottoms beat if we got cheeky.
VIVA LA FRANCIS!!!
