Summary: literate AND funny
Review: Randy Alcorn continues to produce Christian writings of the highest quality. His Edge of Eternity is an allegory as literate as Pilgrim's Progress and as readable as The Hobbit. Lord Foulgrin's Letters is a collection of comic directives to an inept minor demon named Squaltaint from his frustrated mentor, Foulgrin. Modeled on C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters, Alcorn reveals the otherworldly efforts to deceive us and teaches us the dangers of our own foibles. I recommend Lord Foulgrin's Letters highly, but I'll never loan it out...I want to read it again and again!

Summary: Creative and thought-provoking
Review: What a creative and thought-provoking book. I eagerly await every new book by Randy Alcorn. This one affected me deeply, changing the way I think and the way I live.

Summary: Screwtape Letters Revisited
Review: Lord Foulgrin's Letters is a compelling update of CS Lewis' Screwtape Letters, with many added bonuses. I recommend this book to anyone who feels bogged down in the world and doesn't give much thought to the spiritual world around us. It will definitely turn your eyes to Jesus and help you face temptation. I highly recommend this wonderful book!

Summary: A Must Read...
Review: Mr. Alcorn has done it once again. I found that this book was thought provoking and real. In the book, Lord Foulgrin is discussing the battle plan for humankind. The battle for Jordan's soul is discussed and plans to separate him from the Carpenter's gift of salvation. Thoughout the book, there is evidence of the spiritual warfare that is occurring on a minute by minute basis. Yet, as you read the book, you can see yourself through the eyes of Jordan and his family. This book was eye-opening and a must read.

Summary: Another Alcorn winner
Review: Much more readable than C.S. Lewis Screwtape Letters and with more impact to the reader. Beware, the devil is alive and well but He who is in us overcometh. Lots of cautions for the reader and reminders of the provisions of God for the believer. I predict this classic will be on the best sellers list before the years out. Can't wait for Randy Alcorn's next book

Summary: Read the Enemy's Mail
Review: Alcorn takes on a formidable assignment here: recreating the spiritual tension and truth of CS Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters" while adding a more modern framework for the story. He succeeds brilliantly--and, let me add, gives Lewis credit for the basic premise.

In each chapter, we follow the struggles of the Fletcher family. The scenes are snippets really, backdrops for the corresponding 'letter' in each chapter where Lord Foulgrin strategizes this family's downfall in diabolical ways.

Though I might've enjoyed more fictional fleshing out of the Fletcher's story, I was far from disappointed by Alcorn's insights into the spiritual world. This book will peel back the deceit of our culture and challenge you to put your household in order.

Is CS Lewis turning in his grave over this book? If he is, it's probably to give Alcorn a hand. In reading the enemy's mail, you'll be equipped to better thwart his devices to divide the homes of America...including your own.

Summary: Be aware
Review: I just received this book and I'm only on chapter 4 and I am appauled as to how direct the scenarios are. As a christian I can see where strengthening my christianity should be my first priority in life. It proves just how devious and strong the devil is and how strong his hatred is against God and his followers. This book was recommended by Tim LaHaye and I am so happy I'm being exposed to the truth.

Summary: Excellence in the spirit of LEFT BEHIND and SCREWTAPE LETTER
Review: I have followed Randy Alcorn quite well--I was first introduced to his writing four years ago and have been hooked ever since. His writing exhibits quality--plot, characterization, suspense, and richer content (which I happend to prefer in fiction--without being academic.) While the content and plot are quite different, I would compare the QUALITY of his writing to that of Grisham and Jenkins/LaHaye. Others might also be familiar with Frank Peretti (THIS PRESENT DARKNESS). The final comparison that Randy himself makes, and I would concur, is with C.S. Lewis and THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS. With all due respect to Mr. Lewis, I enjoyed this title considerably more. C.S. Lewis has always been a bit too "heady" for me, and Randy writes more in the venacular. Also, Randy includes BRIEF contemporary narrative before each letter (from Lord Foulgrin--to his junior demon.)

A first-class gripping must-read!

Summary: Randy awakens us!
Review: Randy's latest offering follows his other novels in the fact that it forces you to think about eternal perspectives and the spirit world. We too easily grow complacent in our Christian walk and shy away from considering the spiritual forces working both for us as well as those which are at work against us. This book offers a unique approach as it tracks Fletcher, a typical American middle class husband, father and salesman, and his family as they are unwittingly influenced by the dark spirits. We get to look in on the letters written by the demonic Lord Foulgrin to his subordinate Squaltaint who is assigned to bring down Fletcher. This book is sure to awaken readers and re-awaken other readers to the forces at work in our lives.

Summary: Reading the Enemy's Mail
Review: My hat's off to Alcorn and to his publisher. This book looks great. It takes courage to tackle a masterpiece such as "The Screwtape Letters" by CS Lewis and to set the same premise in modern times...yet Alcorn rises to the challenge.

Alcorn skillfully feeds us snippets of the Fletcher family's struggles, then spices these with the demonic schemes of Lord Foulgrin, as seen in the dark lord's letters to a junior devil who's been assigned to destroy Jordan Fletcher by means devious or destructive. The malicious efforts of this satanic team are depicted strongly so that the reader is forced to either discount the reality of spiritual battle, or to face this reality by turning to the Tyrant (as God is called by Foulgrin throughout) for effective counter-measures and plans of attack.

The message of "Lord Foulgrin's Letters" is vital to the institution of family. By 'reading the enemy's mail' in this novel, we are given a clear wake-up call to take a stand for what's right. Alcorn's lessons dominate the storyline, which could've been fleshed out a bit, but these lessons are worth hearing. The story of the Fletchers could be the story of us all.
