Summary: A big disappointment
Review: I recently bought all four "Art of Star Wars" books, and was profoundly disappointed by the "New Hope" and "Jedi" books. Of the books I was disappointed by, this book, "A New Hope," is the lamer of the two. "A New Hope," huh? What an absolute misnomer. Lucasfilm crammed the script into this book, as well some awful childrens' art, and a bunch cartoons that refer to Star Wars. I DIDN'T BUY this book for the script, which can be found a zillion other places, I DIDN'T BUY it for some weak attempts at humour that play off of Star Wars, and I CERTAINLY didn't shell out my money for some nursery school scribblings! I bought it for the artwork, but, sorry to say, this book tells me NOTHING about it! Unfortunately, I wanted the art badly enough that I decided in the end to put up my hard-earned cash, but man, I'm NOT happy about it.

Summary: GOOD but...
Review: I think most people do not realize that, although the story is George Lucas', this book was ghost-written by somebody else. Keep that in mind the next time you read it.

Summary: As Good As The Movie
Review: I watched the movie Star Wars once briefly when I was young.I picked up this book because of its name and was curious about how could a movie like Star Wars could be written as novel. But when I started reading it, it evoked my memory and give me some new, fresh feeling about star wars. The characters, technology and places of the galaxy outlined an epic world that everyone dream of.At the political side, the book 'd only given a brief openings of how the Old Republic rotted. There was also little details about the past of Luke,Darth Vader,Obi-Wan.Questions had already arised when I'd read just half of it.It makes me very hungry.
The story has too many unknowns to search for while I just couldn't get out of the adventure. So if you want to go into the world of star wars, this book is the entrance of it.Don't read it until you have the psychological preparation to obsess by the extraordinary worlds of Star Wars!

Summary: The REAL episode one
Review: If you like Star Wars, buy the ORIGINAL Episode One. The new movie is C**P! This is the first episode in the true series and anything before it is but marketing strategy, and a show of CGI chutzpah. Blech. Save your $$ and buy A New Hope!

Summary: A long time ago...I bought this book!
Review: If you love the movie, you will most definitely love this book! Everything that was in the movie is here plus much more! The prologue is great. It explains about the Senate and how Emperor Palpatine used to be a good guy. This was very valuable information for people who saw the movie when it first came out and it is still very interesting today. On a curious note, C3-PO was originally meant to be a greasy used car salesman type of character and reading this book, you will see how that is true. He is almost surly at times! There is also some very good dialogue in this which expands a lot on what was said in the movie. It is also interesting to note how the sequence of events is quite a bit different in the book. It jumps around quite a bit more.

In conclusion, if you are a fan of the movie, buy this book! You will not be disappointed! If you are a sci-fi fan in general, read this book to see why so many love these classic adventures.

Summary: The Original and Still the Best!
Review: Okay...I have owned several copies of this book. Never the hardcover, since that one is rare ... It is lovely to look at and the screenplay...the fourth draft, which has scenes that were cut in the first version and some adapted in the Special Edition, gives us more of the story as it would be presented in the novel and radio dramatization. It is a wonderful book to look at, ALTHOUGH my other copies had the weakness of falling apart even if one was careful when perusing it. Some problem with the binding, I imagine. It is worth getting, though.

Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!!!!! Provides Many Details Not in the Movie!!
Review: REVIEW IS ABOVE. In this space are just a few questions for you, George Lucas, assuming you read these reviews. One: In this book, are you saying that the Force controls destiny, and that it is literally all-powerful? Two: Obi-wan Kenobi says that the Force "binds the GALAXY together"; what about OUTSIDE the galaxy? Does the Force exist there? COULD it exist there, if a Jedi or something spread it there? Well, THANK YOU FOR LISTENING, MR. LUCAS. If possible, please respond to these questions through a "review by the author (you, in this case)".

Summary: Not what I expected, but good
Review: Right after "Star Wars: A New Hope" came out as a film, I saw this book in a bookstore and, as I had enjoyed the film, I bought the book. My assumption was that, like most books connected with a movie, the book would go into greater detail and depth than did the movie. Well, as the saying goes, "Be careful when you assume." This movie was not based upon a book; this book was based upon the movie, and is the movie, almost word-for-word.

After my initial disappointment at realizing that the book would not give me any more detail than did the movie, I realized that this story, as is, is a pretty good story. I enjoyed reading it, and I think that I would have enjoyed the book, even if the movie had never existed.

For parents of children where the children A) like the movie and B) are reluctant to read, this book might be one those children would be willing to read. From there, who knows?

Summary: A high-quality collection of the Star Wars conceptual art
Review: The book was exactly what I expected. High quality prints and photos of the original Star Wars concept art. Very well done. One of my most prized Star Wars collectors books. It recreates the entire feel of the vision of the Star Wars concept from the mind of Lucas and its producers.
