Summary: THE SCHEME IS INGENIOUS - LET'S HOPE NO ONE DOES IT!
Review: "Velocity" is fiction, a techno-thriller in which rogue traders plan a stock market crash so they can make billions off derivatives. The scheme itself is ingenious . . . the publisher's release date is also clever: it's the 10th anniversdary of the 1987 crash. . . Rhodes introduces new [derivatives] concepts in a clever dialogue format . . . "Velocity" is an enjoyable read, with convincing dialogue and likeable characters. It also paints an accurate and wide-ranging portrait of the workings of a derivatives trade, and shows how all the parts of a firm work together to put the deal in motion, including the credit division and the back-office operations. And the core device that will crash the market is very clever -- let's hope nobody really does it!

Summary: Very good, technically acurate
Review: A good thriller, and a good insight on trading in the 90's.

Summary: Far fetched but enjoyable reading
Review: Although the author does dabble in the realities of financial trading he overestimates the power and esteem of the various players as well as the impact they play on the market. The "techie" sections are very interesting and skim the surface of what is accomplished in the financial industry as regards technology and trading. I found the book entertaining but would not recommend it to anyone looking for real insight into the world of financial trading. It is a romantic look at a very rough and stressful way to make a living.

Summary: Technical and Thrilling
Review: Excellent book for anyone interested in making money with stocks. It really makes you think. I've never been to Wall Street, but after reading this book I feel like I was there. Couldn't put it down!

Summary: Edge of the seat, fast track reading.
Review: I read this book in two sittings. I literally could not turn the pages fast enough. Great characterization, super plot. Hated to see it end. Quick, write another one. You now have a new fan. Will recommend this to all my friends. In fact, I alerted every one in a chat room last night to buy and read this book. Fern Michaels

Summary: A Maddening waste of time - truly terrible writing
Review: I really(!) wanted to like this book. The plot seemed to work nicely. Alas, this is the most amateurish piece of writing I've seen in years. The blame must lie with the editor and publisher for letting this see the light of day. You get the feeling that Rhodes - a Wall Street type himself - has spent his life convincing himself that he is Tom Wolfe's Master of the Universe: by virtue of the fact that he has made the grade on "the street" he believes he can do anything - such as write fiction. Wrong! The dialogue is monstrous. This guy has the worst ear for dialogue I've ever seen in print. The exchanges are pointless, juvenile (!) and terribly unconvincing. Where his ingenious plot is gripping, the characters are stultifyingly unreal and without foundation. They speak as if they are straight out of an Archie comic. How in the world did this book get published? It makes you wonder if Rhodes himself jiggled some Wall Street connections to get this on Morrow's list. This book is a maddening waste of time!

Summary: Overrated.
Review: I thought it was okay, but not the gripping page turner I had expected. If you haven't already read it, try Crichton's Disclosure.

Summary: Many thanks to the Amazon.com readers of "Velocity."
Review: I'm grateful that readers have kept "Velocity of Money" on Amazon.com's Mysteries & Thrillers best-seller list for the last three months. The positive reviews posted to this web-site are part of why writing TVOM proved to be such a great experience. The book was a lot of fun to write (the process took 15 months on a Dell laptop during my otherwise deadly-dull 3-hour daily commute to Wall Street), and the response from readers has been enormously rewarding. Kindly e-mail me at velomoney@aol.com with any comments you care to send me personally. Thanks again for reading the book.

Best regards, Stephen Rhodes

Summary: The technical depth of Clancy, a Jance-like plot - very good
Review: If you don't think the market can ever crash again, this book is not only entertaining, but it is also exceptionally educational in a not-too-painful way. The reality of the world's interlocked financial system is almost as bad as the "bad guys" in this financial thriller. With the exception of wanting to kill the occasional roadblock in the path to their financial profits, the bad guys in this book seem to think - and act - a lot like any other aggressive group of traders. So when young Wall St. attorney Rick Hansen takes over a job where his predecessor was mysteriously killed, and gets sucked into the complexities of the trading jungle, you're not sure if the system will topple over on its own, or with a little help from a criminal conspiracy using the latest super-computers and software wizardy. Even if you've never traded an option in your life, this is definitely a must read - like the early Paul Erdman (Crash of '79, etc.) novels.

Summary: Technical and Thrilling
Review: If you like Wall Street and financial intrigue, you will love this book. The real beauty of it, however, is that you don't need to be a stock broker or lawyer to follow the story. Thrills galore!
