Rating: Summary: Now I understand why she stays in an abusive marriage Review: As a strong woman who has always had trouble understanding why a well-educated woman who is supposed to be at least as strong as I am would stay in such an abusive relationship, this book provided more than enough reasons. This book is a must-read for those who do not understand why women with much less education and promise for their futures would make a similar decision, despite continuing abuse. Hillary Rodham Clinton is much more socialist than I ever would have guessed. She has a head stuck firmly in the 60's, coupled with the attention span of a 5-year-old whose Ritalin ran out a week ago. Her ignorance of the economic realities of life are appalling, and her inability to understand how sweeping revisions of the social structure will adversely affect those least able to adjust to those changes is equally disturbing -- and flabergasting! While differing views of various people interviewed for this book may be a turn-off by some readers, one need only look at the spectrum of emotions elicited by Hillary's husband to understand how people can see one human being through so many different prisms and come to so many different opinions of what they have seen. I would recommend this book to anybody who is a news junky, Clinton-watcher -- on either side of the issue of them as human beings, or just interested in a good read with more than a bit of spice.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: Couldn't put it down! Warning: Those who are too dishonest to admit the Clintons are dishonest won't like this book. This book is for people who aren't afraid of the truth.
Rating: Summary: Sorry attempt at an "objective" biography of the First Lady Review: Despite the negative comments and reviews about the book, I was determined to make my own decision and judge the book myself. Big mistake. I ended up wasting a couple of days on this pathetic attempt to trash the First Lady on everything from Whitewater to her poor choices regarding White House Christmas decorations. Milton begins her book by identifying herself with this baby-boomer, high-achieving working woman, but then proceeds to tear Mrs. Clinton into little bits and pieces until even the most hardened Hillary enemy must squirm at the cattiness and outrageousness of some of the author's claims. Milton's sources are poorly cited, if at all, and she appears to have dredged up every single vicious rumor about the First Lady that ever floated in the Beltway and beyond, even those that have the ring of untruth. While she hedges her claims with timid reservations, the fact that she even brings up such unsubstantiated gossip leads one to suspect that she isn't one to let the truth get in the way of her obviously conservative agenda. And some of Milton's "character assassinations" are so ludicrous you have to wonder if she's desperate to put forth ANYTHING that would make Hillary look bad -- e.g., her criticism of Hillary Clinton's failure to anticipate the need to plan the White House Christmas decor far in advance seems awfully disproportionate to the so-called crime. I ended up speeding through the remaining thirty or so pages just to finish it (I hate to not finish a book, no matter how much I hate it). I would recommend to other potential readers not to even bother picking it up at the bookstore. Regardless of how one feels about the First Lady, one can do much better than this obviously politically-motivated "biography." With so many Hillary bios in the pipeline (or so I've heard), I'd suggest saving your money until a better, more objective one comes along.
Rating: Summary: Well written presentation of facts; non-biased Review: Garbage. The references to myself in the book are incorrect and any simple minded freshman student could have done more thorough research. With that said I suspect the same amount of effort went into getting "it right" throughout the remainder of her book.

Rating: Summary: The First Lady Hired A Detective + Security Issues Review: I believe the book is well worth buying and reading carefully if you are interested in the Clintons. This "review" covers some of the issues raised in the book (but obviously not all!). A) The author claims that Hillary Clinton hired detective(s) to gather information on her husband Bill Clinton's activities. This claim is by no means widely accepted. However, there have been press reports in previous years that point to Deputy White House Counsel Vince Foster as the routine "point of contact" between the First Lady and these (alleged) detectives. B) The book also brings up Foster in another context that appears to support the claim that Foster could well have been used as Hillary Clinton's liason with the (alleged) detectives. Foster is identified in the book as: "A presidential counselor, one who apparently had a romantic attachment to the First Lady, had worked in the White House for six months without an FBI background check or a permanent pass." C) Foster's SF-86, the security clearance "package" used as the basis for his application for a security clearance was signed by him on January 27, 1993, and involved a Level II Background Identification ("BI") check. The SF-86 is entitled "Questionnaire for Sensitive Positions (For National Security)" and is quite extensive, especially when assembled with all the related field reports and other inquiries that are made as a matter of course. FBI Agent Gary Aldrich interviewed Foster in connection with Foster's security clearance on February 12, 1993. The Text of the related FBI FD-302 Interview Report revealed nothing that would prevent Foster from successfully completing the Level II BI security check. The other several hundred pages of Foster's SF-86 "package" -- obtained via FOIA -- also do not indicate any reason(s) that Foster would not have been timely granted the security clearance sought. If Milton is correct when she states that Foster had not obtained a security clearance at the time of his death, it is nonetheless clear that security clearance procedures COMMENCED in January 1993 and continued for several weeks. It normally does not take anywhere near six months complete a Level II BI -- whether the clearance is granted or denied. If Foster's security clearance was not complete at the time of his death on July 20, 1993, what was the reason for the delay? D) Milton also states (about the Foster death): "The established facts were shocking enough." Milton's readers who would like to know more about Foster's White House activities, especially in the several days prior to his death, the death iteslf, and the various related government investigations may email me [HSprunt@aol.com] to receive via return email (at no charge, of course!) a substantive analysis (includes references to additional sources of information). Two publishers printed earlier versions of this analysis in hard copy (fee paid), but I retained the copyright and offer this latest release of the analysis gratis to those who request it (as long as I am not physically overwhelmed with requests -- to date they have been manageable in number). The analysis in question is about 30,000 words and is sourced from government investigative documents made public through FOIA actions/suits and other means (NO "secret sources," reliable or otherwise!). It is NOT a poltically partisan analysis. That said, the analysis is quite critical of the Starr Office of Independent Counsel and describesdiscusses data (government documents) that may be of evidential value to those who believe that, subsequently, the Starr OIC might not have functioned properly in connection with the Lewinsky imbroglio (and other Starr OIC investigations) regarding the treatment of witnesses Disclosure: I do not know the Author, Joyce Milton, and do not have any connection to her, direct or indirect, of which I am aware (except: my mother-in-law is ALSO the author of multiple books and ALSO lives in Brooklyn!).
Rating: Summary: ! star too many Review: I bought the book at Costco based on the quotes about Milton's other works. The deception starts there. Her sources include the American Spectator and Aldrich of the Christmas Condoms. I'm sure that funding for the book has come from Scaife. The words have all been tested in front of John Brich Society Cells and were well received. Buy this book only if you are suffering from CCH (Clinical Clinton Hate).
Rating: Summary: Exhaustively researched, but horribly biased Review: I bought this biography because I have always been fascinated with Hillary Rodham Clinton's role in her husband's administration. I was hoping for an objective look at her contributions to policy, instead, this novel is full of acrimonious allegations and innuendo. It seems that the author is completely unable to separate HRC the person from her politics. This book is horribly slanted and I would not recommend to someone who truly desires insight into either one of the Clintons.

Rating: Summary: Just saw the author on Christian network Review: I bought this book hoping to understand more about this complex woman and her marriage to the President of the United States. Instead I read a very biased account that determined to find every bit of dirt -even critizing her behavior as a teenager. I just saw the author talking to Pat Robertson on a Christian network program and it was preceeded by a "News Piece" that was an obvious attempt to trash HRC and her work thus far. Robertson asked very leading questions that allowed Milton to continue pushing her negative views and opinions. In summary a very biased and disappointing book.
