Rating: Summary: fun easy read Review: I found this book in the library, curious about its hair salon setting. I don't have a sister & after enjoying it a great deal, I wondered if I'd missed out on having such a good, unconditional friend in a sister as Harriet & Patty Jane have. It also made me long for an intimate, gossipy "house of curl" in my NYC town, too. I highly recommend this title.
Rating: Summary: Skip & Read "She Flew the Coup" Review: Not bad. But not real good either. My Tip: Skip this and read Michael Lee West's "She Flew the Coup," which is as funny as it is moving.
Rating: Summary: witty characters, a midwestern Steel Magnolias Review: Having lived my most of my life in Minnesota I loved the midwestern setting. Her characters's were real, funny and sad all at the same time. Landvik paints a wonderful picture of small town life, love and friendship. Another good author to try is Bobbie Leets or Jon Hassler...
Rating: Summary: I laughed, I cried, I read it in one day. Review: This book was like talking to a close friend about your life. Patty Jane and Harriet are people I wish were in MY life. The book exudes a sisterly closeness that makes me jealous. I want to be part of their world. I was sad when the book was done; I wanted it to go on and on. "Patty Jane's House of Curl" will be one of those books that I will hand deliver to special friends to share.
Rating: Summary: This was a great read...hated to see it end. Review: I grew up in south Minneapolis and not only feel like I've been back home, but that Patty Jane and company were people I knew back there! If you're looking for a book that's well-constructed literary-wise, skip it. But if you're looking for some unique characters in a Fried Green Tomatoes meets Northern Exposure setting, this book is well worth it!
Rating: Summary: Quick, fun, enjoyable read! Review: I host a book chat on the net and have been hearing about this books for ages. I picked it up and read it in one afternoon because I could not put it down! These ladies live in all of us...so you will laugh, you will cry, and you will be glad you picked this book up!
Rating: Summary: I laughed, I cried, I want to live next door !!!! Review: This book was amazing!!! I haven't enjoyed a book this much in quite a long time...Where do I go to move in with these wonderful ladies?!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I hope she writes more soon. This book brought lots of smiles and some tears. A great read!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT BOOK! Review: Patty Jane's House of Curls has got to be the most interesting, sensitive, funny book that I have read in a very long time. It is one of those books that you hate finishing, that you want to just go on and on. The relationships between the two sisters is one to envy; there was one point in the book where one sister thanked the other for walking her to school. That really made me miss my sisters and realize not to take for granted how fortunate I am to have them. The whole idea of what the 'House of Curls' is makes me want to go find a place like that. Thank you to the author for writing such a lovely book!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and quick read Review: I have read several of Landvik's books ~~ my favorite being Angry Housewives ~~ and this is a good debut novel, entertaining and a quick read. I took it on vacation and was glad to have something light-hearted to read. I am also glad to see that Landvik has improved her writing talents since this book too. =0) Patty Jane gets deserted by her handsome husband just before her daughter was born ~~ and if it wasn't for her mother-in-law's support and her sister, Harriet's support ~~ Patty Jane didn't know what she would do. These three women struggle with issues of life ~~ love, laughter, death, romance and friendship ~~ together with their newfound friends in a beauty salon that Patty and Harriet started up together. This is not your typical salon either ~~ where else in Minneapolis would you find delectable Norwegian desserts and listen to harp music being played while your hair is being done? It is a cute book ~~ a light-hearted read and fun ~~ it's absolutely perfect for a beach read if you need something to read while sunning on the beach. 6-26-04
