Rating: Summary: Close to From Russia With Love Review: Very good. This was a fun read. One of the best books that I have read, but not as good as From Russia With Love. The book was very exciting and had a great ending. Definitly one of Fleming's best.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: What a book! A lot better than the movie. Sure, the plot takes a long time to get going but that's often the case with books. Bond's relationship with Tracy is intriguing and there is excellent description everywhere, especially of Royale beach, and of Piz Gloria and the surrounding Engadine. This time, Blofeld is planning to wipe out Great Britain's crops and livestock with a lethal virus. Can Bond stop him, and will he win Tracy? I won't give away the ending, but it's one you'll never forget.... Snap up a copy NOW!
Rating: Summary: All around good Review: While I like From Russia with Love a little better, I think this book deals more with Bond as a person, rather than a one dimensional character in a film. Very good read indeed. Buy this now.
Rating: Summary: The Crown Jewel of Her Majesty's Secret Service Bookshelf Review: Without a doubt, Ian Fleming's finest James Bond Novel. Mr. Fleming neatly round out the character of James Bond as the reader sees the complete person behind our favorite government operator. The book begins with Bond begining to becomed bored with his assignment and meeting the love of his life. Due to the nature of his work and the emotional scars from previous relationships, Bond is always reluctant to engage in a serious romance with a woman. However, this time, Bond is willing to take his chances to find someone to fill the void in his life. Aside from the romance, Bond also has a job to do. Reinvigorated by progress in his once moribund assignment, Bond tackles his arch enemy Ernst Stavro Blofled through Fleming's engaing narrative. References to Bond's childhood memories, past assignments, and his dreams are particularly effective. Fleming's rich imagination transports the reader from Bond's old haunts on the Northern French coast to the Swiss Alps, where 007 once again takes his licks for "Queen and Country." Hats off to Fleming for his gutsy ending, which unfortunately for Bond, underlines the fact that 007 will always belong to "Her Majesty's Secret Service."
Rating: Summary: Bond's best Review: Without a doubt, this is Ian Fleming's masterpiece. A taut thriller with so much color and scope, and a page-turner that will keep you in suspense and fascination until the final chapter. Bond's archenemy, Ernst Stavro Blofeld is the totally sadistic and evil foe as he ever was. Under the guise of Sir Hillary Bray, Bond is in the most danger he's ever been in a Swiss chalet run by his villainous host, and has a love interest this time that makes all the other lovelies he usually beds down (and he does so in this one as well) no competition at all. The alluring, intelligent and grossly appealing Tracy, daughter of the powerful mafiosi Draco. The settings, the chases and the danger that are showcase in this marvelous work of fiction show Ian Fleming at the top of his craft. For this special outing, the Bond thriller is more than just a megalomaniacal madman with delusions of grandeur threatening to upset the balances of power and destroy Our Majesty's great power structure and its people's way of life, but a love story, a portrait of a flesh and blood man named James Bond who is more than just his 007 number. This is a book that only gets better with repeat readings. Ian Fleming has written gold and nobody does it better. Don't pass this one up.
Rating: Summary: the best Fleming work ever Review: wow what abook i am glad to do this report! this book was fasinating to read! Bond never did anythging like this before! Great ending! wow and a sad ending it is!
Rating: Summary: The Best of the Bonds! Review: Years ago a friend had told me that "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was one of his favorite movies, not because he preferred George Lazenby over Sean Connery, but rather because the movie was so much like the book! I read the book and I'm inclined to agree with him. It's the second novel by Fleming to feature arch villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld of the Special Executive for Counter Intelligence, Espionage, Revenge, Terror, and Extortion (SPECTRE). Just like "THUNDERBALL", Blofeld's got a clandestine scheme in the works that could ruin Great Britain and make him a rich, rich man. The British secret service has their best man on the case and 007 is going to have to rely on his sharp wits and resourcefulness if he's going to foil SPECTRE's plans. Of all the James Bond novels I've read, this one ranks as the best of the best! Nobody does it better than Ian Fleming. 5 STARS!
Rating: Summary: One Of The Best Books Ever Written! Review: You don't know James Bond until you have read Fleming's novels. Forget the cheesy movies, "You Only Live Twice" is the REAL Bond, faults and all, not a ridiculous cartoon. Disregarding the unfinished "The Man With The Golden Gun", this novel sums up the Bond story with an incredible, poingent, visceral, and symbolic bang. If you have any interest in Bond at all, don't miss this book.
Rating: Summary: a compelling and brillant story Review: You know what ? This is a great book ! Being a french reader, I waited that I'd improved my english in order that I could really appreciate such good novels. Ian Fleming is excellent at slowly revealing the psychology of his main character. And Fleming write with a skill and sureness of touch that go straight to the essential, without any "fioritures". I do recommend this book to anyone who simply want to be appealed by good stories.
