Rating: Summary: Book Bond will surprise you! Review: "On Her Majesty's Secrect Service" is one good book. This is the first time that I have found it true that reading a book is better than a movie. Fleming did a beautiful job. James Bond is good in movies but he's seems more human in the books. The ending will knock your socks off!
Rating: Summary: A James Bond Super-Thriller Review: "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the best James Bond novels there is. The superlative thriller that pits secret agent James Bond once more against SPECTRE's archfiend Blofeld, architect of a nefarious scheme to destroy the free world.....the thriller in which 007 falls in love with the lovely Tracy, daughter of Marc-Ange Draco, head of the Union Corse. This is Fleming at his best.
Rating: Summary: A excellent piece of literature. Review: A car race (between James Bond and Tracy) a well written baccarat game plus 2 downhill chases. What more could a first time Bond reader want? Nothing. Read this book to find out how Blofeld's intends to take over the world. And of course how oo7 foils his plot.
Rating: Summary: We Have All The Time In The World! Review: Bond, weary of pursing Blofeld, leader of the international crime synidcate SPECTRE, is ready to quit Secret Service, when something unexpected happens: he falls in love. Rich, troubled Countess Tracy di Vicenzo is the daughter of Draco, head of the French Mafia. Using Draco's connections, Bond finds and infiltrates Blofeld's Swiss hideout, only to discover Blofeld's new scheme for global blackmail. On skis and bobsleds, Bond duels Blofeld and his henchmen, newly motivated by a future filled with his love for Tracy, and a family life. But can normal happiness be in the cards for anyone On Her Majesty's Secret Service? A great book for Bond fans to read! Buy this book.
Rating: Summary: The Best Bond Review: Easily the best book in the sensational series, Fleming here combines break-neck spy action, his flair for compelling descriptions, and a very human exploration of James Bond. Few spy novels have ever achieved this sort of grand synthesis. Thank God that the movie version was up to the challenge of adapting Fleming's best novel -- the film is almost as good the book, and retained the experimental and touching finale.
Rating: Summary: First Fleming novel cements him as hack Review: First case I have ever come across in which the movie is better than the book, and the movie wasn't that good either. This was such a waste of my time...this isn't the James Bond I have come to know through the movies...this is a gestating pansie-boy, ready to come out of the closet. For God's sakes, James Bond's hands are sweating throughout the novel. Bond's hands aren't capable of sweating!
Rating: Summary: Ian Fleming does it again! Review: Fleming adds the detail and the smashing debonaire of oo7 together and comes up with the incredible novel: On Her Majestey's Secret Service. The high adventure, the beautiful Bond girls, and James Bond's "save the day" attitude make On Her Majestey's Secret Service a must read! I've written several books myself but none compare to this. I stayed up late until one in the morning reading the wonderful descriptions of the exploits of Bond, James Bond. It, along with Casino Royale, The man with the Golden Gun, Goldfinger, and You Only live Twice, are ranked high on my favorite novels list and should be yours. The head of SPECTRE and his Number Two man torment the spy but as always, Bond defeats the evil plans of Ernst Stravo Blofeld but for him to only fight another day! This book is so good it should come with popcorn!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: I wish, as 007, to have Miss Moneypenny transcribe this review, so that I may tell you, dear readers, that this, perhaps, was my most thrilling adventure. Skiing, impersonation, ...romance, facing my greatest nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (really a silly bloke, despite his dangerousness), gambling in Monte Carlo. It was my privilege to risk my life, and [take down] many men, for the sake of her Majesty, the Queen. I hope you enjoy the narrative of said adventure, and if you will excuse me, Miss Moneypenny is eager to make me my evening martini (shaken, not stirred.) By the way, the name is Bond. James Bond.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Bonds. Review: I've always ranked the first Bond book, "Casino Royale", as the best of the series. "On Her Majesty's..." is also one of the best -- perhaps because it has much in common with "Casino". Bond returns to the gambling tables of Royale; he enjoys various foods and drinks; he falls very hard for a girl, with potentially tragic results; and he comes across as very human, rather than the Superman of the movies (contrast the effortless skiing ending in a parachute jump or some other stunt in a typical Bond movie with Bond's desperate, exhausting downhill escape run that is a highlight of this book). One of the best Bonds.
Rating: Summary: Best Bond Book Of Them All Review: I've read every Ian Fleming James Bond novel, and I must say, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is an undisputed #1. This is James Bond at his finest. He is at his most resourceful and clever, not relying at all on gadgets. It is a more serious book as well, with the best ending of them all. I would highly reccommend reading many of the other novels first, because before you can really appreciate James Bond doing what he does in this book (I'm not going to say what it is), you should understand his past experiences. It is the most personal and thrilling of all the novels, and it is a very close match to the movie. In conclusion, people may say that "From Russia With Love" is the best, but trust me, nothing can compare to this book.
