Summary: Diehl shares a glimpse of pure evil...
Review: Wow...I read this book some 5 years ago and said then what an excellent movie it would make. Unfortunately I was right, but Hollywood, even with its good attempt, did not do this engrossing story justice. I have lauded this book more than any other I have read, and for good reason. For all those readers who have to read the last page before they finish a book - DON'T! Be patient and let Diehl weave his incredible story...This is one for the ages, as well as one for leaving the lights on at night...True Brilliance!

Summary: A REAL KNOCKOUT!!!
Review: It leaves the reader in awe. All throughout, I believed how innocent the accused was, how pitiful his situation was, suffering from psychological problems. I shared Vail's frustration, anger & drive to win the case. I felt triumph when he was able to prove in court how sick his client was when Aaron blew up during interrogation. Then suddenly, there was this one TWIST of event which left me open mouthed..as in, "Did I miss something or did I get it right?" I was really fooled while reading the book. What a character!!! What a story!!!

Summary: William Diehl is amazing in PRIMAL FEAR!!!
Review: Wow. This novel is one of the best I have read. He starts it off with a murder, a perfect beginning. The ending was so suprising I literally whacked myself over the head. William Diehl calls Martin Vail a "bad-boy" lawyer. That's exactly what he is. He is so patronizing you want to give him a smack on the face. And Aaron Stampler? Forget about it! This 19 year old creation of Diehl is so jacked up you think YOU need a shrink! Speaking of shrinks, Molly Arrington is an all-star character.

This book was one of the best I have ever read. I could not put it down, even on the occasional tedious parts. It is definetly worth your time and money.

Summary: really great!!!
Review: It's really amazing how writer managed to develop situation in which you never know what is coming next. It always gives you several options, but at the same time it's pointing only at one solution. It also has variety of subjects and lots of characters, but reader never looses himself/herself in currency of the happenings. Easy to follow, hard on subject, many happenings and interesting from beggining to an end. Very hard to leave once you start reading

Summary: Much more than expected & indeed more thrilling that Grisham
Review: What a great thriller that explores the inner senses and the depths of the mind of not only the characters of the book but also the reader. Captivates all your energy and makes the reader wonder about his/her psychological status. And in the end leaves you to wonder who's for real, Aaron or Roy

Summary: Very good except major psychiatric errors
Review: I liked it much better than the movie and did not quite understand why the movie-makers needed to change its excellent plot.

Well, the author acknowledges the help of Dr. Everett Kugler of the Georgia Mental Health Department -- so I don't know who did not do his homework: in the book "ego" and "superego" are mentioned to operate at the level of consciousness when "id" was said to be unconscious. According to the psychoanalytic theory, however, both "id" and "superego" are unconscious, as well many major functions of the "ego", as well known "defense mechanisms".

The author also uses the terms "psychotic" and "psychopath" interchangibly. There is no "psychopathic schizophrenia" in DSM-III (not "DSM3"), for example. "Psychotic" roughly means "unable to tell what is real from unreal", and by definition, all schizophrenic individuals have psychotic episodes. "Psychopathy" however, implies a personality disorder ("antisocial personality disorder" according to DSM-III). Of course a schizophrenic person may also have a personality disorder of this type, but we still would not call it "psychopathic schizophrenia"

Summary: Well-written, captivating story
Review: I was intrigued by the thought process of a defense attorney. How could someone defend someone who appeared to be so obviously guilty. All in all, I found William Diehl's writing abilities outstanding as he seems to produce overwhelming pictures with a minimum of words. The only thing that scares me is the realism of the court system and our reluctance to exact the punishment deserved by the crime. Excellent choice, one you won't soon forget.

Summary: BOOK MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE!
Review: When I read the summary of the book, I could not see how it could possibly be explained how a suspect with the victim's blood all over him could still claim to be innocent. This novel kept me hooked until the very end. It is very well written and the plot never seems to slack off. The biggest surprise comes in the very last line of the novel, something that you never would have suspected

Summary: One of the most suspenseful novels of all time. A must read!
Review: William Diehl wrote this one so perfectley that it keeps you turning the page until the end. The plot is excellent, the characters are great, and the ending is nothing that you'd expect. This one deserves to be read

Summary: A MUST read!!!
Review: If you like the movie, then you will LOVE the book. William Diehl writes so well that he can make your skin crawl with anxiety. The way he described the boy's split personality felt so real that you could literally SEE the boy. A must read!!
