Rating: Summary: It was great Review: This was the funniest book that I have ever read. I would recomend this book to any one with a great sense of humor. the chapters that involve Lucille are the funniest, she just does the crazziest things. the chapters that invole Peejoe are so realistic his character was such a brave young boy.
Rating: Summary: a Perfect balance of Comedy/ tragedy Review: I just finished reading this book for a Modern Novel class. I loved it. It was the perfect balance of comedy/tragedy for my taste. The happenings in Industry were so real and believeable, that I almost thought that it happened in real life. I just finished doing a report on Civil Rights, so that struck my interest at the right time. where The events in Peejoe's life seem real, the events in Lucille's life are so outragous and looney that it added the perfect touch of comic relief for the book. It held my attention the whole time!
Rating: Summary: The strangest thing I've ever read. Review: There were a lot of things that I liked about the book, but, the chapters with Lucille were completely unrealistic. I just couldn't get into the fact that she poisoned her husband and then cut off his head! She should have just left him. She was obviously a good actress and she had the intelligence obviosly to have realized that she would have been caught if she would have been on tv. I didn't completely hate it. The chapters involving Peejoe were awesome.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: I thought this was an excellent book. I would recommend it to anyone to read. I love how it has a serious side and a comical side. I can't wait to see the movie. -Crystal Sapp
Rating: Summary: This book is my escape from reality. Review: This book totally takes you out of reality with the story of Lucille, and then it throws you into the most serious perspective of the 60's, desegregation of the south. Lucille was totally unbelievable, in a believable sort of way. PeeJoe's story showed the harsh reality of how reality can strike a child and change his whole perspective of life.
Rating: Summary: Kick butt book Review: After reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, this book was actually normal. In a sadistic kind of way. This was a really good racial book. It deals with real issues. It almost made me cry at the end. This book had it all! LONG LIVE UNCLE CHESTER!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: this book kicked arse Review: This was the absolute most hilarious and awesome book I ever read. It was funny while at the same time, it expressed the issues of racism very well while not being too heavy. The characters were very realistic and the town made sense too. I think Mark Childress is the greatest modern author I have ever read and he should win awards for this book.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: This is a book that I would recommend for others to read. It is very good and captures the fight against racism. This is a book that I couldn't put down and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. -Julia K.
Rating: Summary: The absolute all time greatest book ever ! Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! I read this book for my modern novel class and I couldn't put it down. I laughed, I cried, it moved me. I loved the way Childress went back and forth between Peejoe and Lucille. Just when you think it can't get any funnier Lucille does one more unpredictable thing. This is really a wonderful book. Buy stock in Tupperware, they're making the book into a movie. Bah now.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER HANDS DOWN! Review: Absolutely my all time favorite book. It holds a special place in my heard and my bookshelf. The characters are great and it is both funny and poignant. Just a wonderful read!
