Rating: Summary: Better Review: "Rise of A Merchant Prince" disappointed me for its slow progress and pause of the overall story to focus on Rupert Avery's development as a business men. It wasn't the sole story in the novel, but it was the main focus. "Rage" is back on track with the overall conflict between Midkemia and the Emerald Emperess's Army advance. So much happens in fact, it made me wonder why another novel in the series is necessary. There are some ends left untied, but overall overthree quarters of the plot gets settled. I'm glad to see the return of characters from previous novels and Feist isn't afraid to show the seriousness of the conflict in not all make it through this novel, which only makes sense. Boredom would set in if all the good characters made it through every conflict with only minor scratches.
Rating: Summary: Good enough for me Review: Being a devoted fan of Feist, I have to admit that I have read all of his books at least 5 times each. Except fairy tale. I only read that once.Rage of a demon king has only one flaw - it's too complicated for all but the most devoted fan of Feist and much of the inticate plot twists and inter-relationships are completely lost on most readers. Look at most of the other reviews on this book - they complain that demon king left them hanging - but then out of no-where comes shards of a broken crown, invalidating most of the reviews of this book! I boast that I knew there was a fourth book, and I enjoyed hanging out after demon king every little bit. feist has set the scene for Krondor and the rest of the kingdom. He has killed off characters, retired characters and invented a set of new ones, Eric, Miranda, Roo, given Calis a life and eventualy puts a new king on the throne. Get ready, its going to start all over again, - mark my words. This time, there will be no Duke James's, Amos Trasks or Macros's to rely on, it's a whole new realm... Maybe Macros will not be dead after all though... And people, lets not forget the grand scheme of things here! All of these books have been based around a few important facts: The Valheru want to come back, Alma Lodaka's synthetic race of followers, the Pantathians fanaticaly work for the return of Alma via the lifestone, whilst those privy to this knowledge - the royal family and a few trusted others labour to keep the snakes away. Demon King was a plot by the snakes gone wrong - dont forget that, and dont forget the scope of the characters in this book, you have characters from the kings bucanbeer from Novindus in this book, in body though - not soul (Emerald Queen, Nakors ex wife). This book may be a little elite for the non feist devoted, but as far as I'm concerned, it is brilliant.

Rating: Summary: Feist Could Have Done Much Better... Review: First, let me say I am a huge fan of the Midkemia novels and have read them all. My favorites are Magician, Darkness at Sethanon, and especially Rise of a Merchant Prince, where Feist really widened his range and took the time to develop character's personalities. My problems with Rage of A Demon King are #1: He tarnishes everything from those classic original Riftwar books. He replaces a compeling, mysterious, powerful enemy: the Valheru... with these watered down Demonic wimps. #2: He completely abandons his character development. We get almost no insight into each character's real feeling or ambitions. #3 It's almost all action or revelations about the order of the Universe, which completely fall short of the original explanation in earlier books. Nalor, the Mad God is behind everything ... WHAT!!! Feist doesn't bother to give this Nalor any personality or history... he's an empty excuse to destroy everything we believed about the motives of the Valheru and Macross. It's almost if Feist felt the need to create some Ultimate mystery and then solve it... ignoring the need to pursue the plot of the battle as we already knew it. All in all, a most disappointing episode from perhaps my favorite writter of fantasy... I sure hope he can do a better job re-invigorating his world with Shards of a Broken Crown, or I won't be coming back.
Rating: Summary: Great novel and a recommended read for all fantasy lovers! Review: I am shocked by some of the negative reviews this book got by other people on this site. (Look around, most are positive!) Some of the things they hated are the best points of this book. The story has become ever broader and far reaching, with greater forces thrown into the battle. Yes, some characters we have grown to love die, but I think this is because Feist has realized that it is time for the series to move on. (Don't worry, there are plenty of old favorites who make it!) Another complaint I read was that too many mysteries were revealed. Again, this is one of the greatest points in this book. After learning, we realize how much we really didn't know about Midkemia and how much there is still to discover. For those of you that have never read Feist ... DO! He is, in my opinion, the BEST fantasy author there is. (And that's the truth!) Start at the beginning of his great stories, though, with Magician: Apprentice (of the Riftwar Saga). This will help you to understand this detailed world and learn about many of the characters. That is the greatest thing about Feist's books, the characters. After reading his books, you feel for the characters and truely understand what they are experiencing, both their losses and joys. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Good climax to an entire setting. Review: I cant belive anyone who likes feist even a little bit would give this book less than 5 stars! Its the most thrilling and touching book feist has ever written. I read it multible times its so great.
Rating: Summary: The best of the midkemian series Review: I have read all the Feist books dealing with the Midkemian world. The "Pro" review from Krokus states they don't know why Raymonds fans keep buying these books...Guess they just don't get it. Rage is the BEST of all the books he's wrote so far. And boy he killed off some main characters in this series. For those who read this book I'll just leave you with these words from the book "As Jimmy The Hand comes back home".
Rating: Summary: audio version of rage of a demon king Review: Just when you think things are going to be ok. Feist launches into another war which leads to the destruction of most of the kingdom. From the Lizard Men to the Serpent Priests Feist doesn't disappoint. Once you pick up this book you can't put it down. Another Feist 5 +++ star book.
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT!! Review: This book is about 1 million times better than "Rise of a Merchent Prince" a book that I little actually dislike but will not re-read agian either. In this book preety much everything pays off from the first two books we have a lot of conflict on all fronts and while some of it doesn't get wrapped up smothly it all comes to more than a satisfactory conclusion. At a point this book is just one drawn out slugging match with the forces of the Emerald Queen. Everyone who has possibly even remotly been in a Feist serise of books has a part to play and for the most part this works out really well. My favorite sequence in the whole book is the conversation between Duke James and the leader of the Thives Guild. This is a book that I will gladly rwead agian. Overall-Took a while to get going but in the end it packs quite a punch.
