Summary: BLACK WIDOW reads like fiction, But you know it's true!
Review: Black Widow is an incredible book. Not because the author does a great job writing it, but because the facts the author presents- yes, just facts and details- are so incredible you'll spend the whole night up reading it!! When I say the book has literally, secrets, deceipt, lies, multiple personality, and SO MANY characters and details I mean it. I'm not saying this to sound literary and prosy, it's true!! I mean, the subject matter is so incredible, it just couldn't be a boring book ,and Robin McDonald, a reporter who did some stories on the case does a good job writing about it. A family tree would have been helpful because the author manages to get information from Marie's parents and so on. The book is great. It's like 400 pages long and the type is REALLY small so it'll take a whole day to read it, but I bet you won't put it down. This particular version has an update on her escape and later death in Canada. She freezes to death outside of a house, after she skips town when she is allowed a leave from her prison cell (after being convictedon charges of poisoning her husband, her mother I think, and her daughter, she is so cunning she is able to convince jail officials she deserves weekend leaves! Go figure!). An excellent book!!! I thoroughly recommend it.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I have had this book for more than ten years. It is an excellent book about the story of Marie Hilley. The author put a lot of effort and research into this book, not just a rehash of the crimes. Also, she draws on extensive interviews with those who knew, loved or worked with Marie. It's a story of a woman who faked her own death to cover her tracks and crimes against her family. This is a great book.

Summary: Not true crime, but tabloid fiction
Review: Personally, I find it difficult to become interested in much fiction, so I prefer non-fiction, including true crime. After reading such lines as "in a state that has earned a reputation for being hopelessly backward and endlessly violent" and "Most of the town's (Anniston) residents lost their virginity on one of the back roads..." I knew that the author was grossly incorrect and that I simply could not trust his judgment or voracity. I beg to differ with this author's ridiculous statement about Alabama being endlessly violent. Having lived in this state for most of my life and working as a court reporter, I am aware of the fact that Alabama is not "endlessly violent." Don't waste your money on this tabloid "journalism." Give me Ann Rule any day.
