Review: An entertaining read, although the title of my review sums up my feelings on the material.

Summary: Diary of Jack the Ripper
Review: Great Book. I'm reading it for the 2nd time after a years intermission. I'll be the most dissapointed person on the planet if this diary is proven to be a fake. I'm convinced it's real.
To me everything in this book makes sense...and I'm the type of person that things have to make sense or I just will not accept it. I'm still a little suspicious of Michael though...do you think he knew. My feelings are, burn all the other "Jack" books, this should remain the only one left in print.

Summary: Hoax or no hoax aside, the book is well done.
Review: Hoax or no hoax aside, the book is well done. Even if it were a work of fiction, I would have found the book a great read. From the very start you know who the killer is, and get to see his tragedy unfold. The ripper crime scene photos and photos of the diary enhance the read as well. I was very impressed with the book. If the diary IS a hoax (and I am not saying yay or nay), it is at least played well and does not offend. It would seem that there was a lot of time spent and research done regarding the murders and the murderer. "Saucy Jack" collectors will not be disappointed.

Review: I couldn't put the book down in the beggining of the book. But at the end I wanted to burn the book. It is very repetitious. I give it a C-

Summary: Beware those who cry hoax! Like the boy who cried wolf!
Review: If the word is not yet out, readers should beware that this book is a hoax, confirmed by none other than Mike Barrett himself. Barrett has admitted that he and his wife Anne hatched the scheme out of a genuine need for money. Of course Shirley Harrison, who provided the narrative, and the publishers agent deny Barrett's claims, and appear to be without guilt. There is a web site (do a Ripper search and you'll stumble upon it) that has an open letter by Mike Barrett detailing the whole sordid affair.

Review: Later editions of this book deal fully with the "Barrett confession". The "Barrett confession", made in a drunken stupor, was recanted both by Mr. Barrett and by his attorney. The Diary itself has too much remarkable detail about both James Maybrick and Jack the Ripper for it to have been forged by Michael Barrett.

It's impossible to say, at this time, what will be the upshot of further investigation into this extraordinary document, but this book is an honest introduction to that document.

In the meantime, more immediate questions are why did Barrett "confess" to something he couldn't have possibly done? Who put him up to making a phony confession? Why is Barrett's "confession" being trumpeted today, notwithstanding Barrett's own recantation of it and notwithstanding the impossibility of Barrett writing the document?

Summary: Not great, but ok
Review: Maybrick has been one of the more contentious suspects, as the diary's authenticity is hotly debated. I am of the opinion that the diary is not authentic (even based on the handwriting alone, compared to the will), but this book is the main work representing the 'pro' camp. If that is what one wants, then the book is worth it.

Summary: Wonderful book that keeps anyones attention
Review: ok it's true that there is not even close to the amount of info needed to prove the diary is true. but it is still a very good book and should be read with a open mind. i think after reading the book that it's to soon to just pass it off as a hoax or real. i think the jury is still out & more info is needed. but no matter what happens with the diary the book is still a very good book real or not.
