Rating: Summary: A Good History and Mystery Book Review: "Something Upstairs" is the only book I have ever read by the author, AVI. If this one is any indication, I should read more of him because I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story centers around two main characters: Kenny Huldorf, a boy who has just moved into a new house in Providence, Rhode Island; and the ghost of a slave he meets in his room, Caleb. Caleb was murdered in the room that Kenny discovers him and, after several meetings to earn Caleb's trust, their search for who killed Caleb and why he was murdered begins. This book has enough twists and turns in it for to be a real page-turner. I've read it several times, and I've enjoyed it very much each time. The author claims that all the events in the book are real; in the forward, he claims that he actually met the boy, Kenny Huldorf, and was able to research everything the boy told him. I guess the reader will have to determine for himself/herself whether the events that unfold within the book are actually true. The suspense level is also very-well maintained in this book as well. There is a twist toward the end that sort of throws the whole book on its ear, and it is only then that Kenny realizes the amplifications of what is actually going on in his adventure with Caleb to find a murderer. I would highly recommend this book to young readers who like books with a little bit of history, a whole lot of mystery and a healthy dose of twists and turns. "Something Upstairs" is a genuinely good book, worth reading over and over again.
Rating: Summary: A Historical Blast Review: I used this book in my 8th grade Language Arts class as an introduction to Science / Historical Fiction. My students loved the book; they would not put it down. The book encouraged my lower level readers to research other titles by Avi for independent book reports. This book also helped me prepare my student for the book Kindred. It was a wonderful contrast to the novel Kindred even though they both deal with slavery. The young boy, Kenny, was a great foundation for a comparison with Dana, a married woman in Kindred. I thank Avi for writing such an interesting novel that helps with Language Arts, and Social Studies instruction. If you are thinking about incorporating a novel with your core curriculum, this is one of the best. Your students will love you for it!!!

Rating: Summary: A GHOST FINDERS BOOK Review: My book takes place in the Providence of Rhode Island. The main charactors are Caleb( the ghost ) KENNY (the boy) FATHER ( the dad ) MOTHER(the mom ) My book is about a boy and his family that just moved in with a ghost named Caleb. Caleb was a slave that was killed in his sleep. By a person that he knew in his time. kenny was sleeping and he heard a noise that startled him. He soon found that it was a ghost that woke him. when he saw it he freaked out and was scared stiff. He said "who are you". then the ghost replied in very faint words "salve". Kenny soon got enough mental strenth to ask " how did you die. And what is your name" the ghost said "i was murderd . And my name is Caleb".Soon Kenny learned to acceped him as a friend. After a little while kenny got a little scared of him when he told his story. Kenny thought "maybe i should help him".
Rating: Summary: The Review of Somethings Upstairs Review: This book has action and mystery. I recommend this book to 5th graders. About 10 year olds should read this. This book is easy to read. From my expirence, 5th graders like mysteries. In this book Kenny, a boy, and Caleb, a dead slave, have to find Calebs murderer. Or else Caleb will be trapped as a dead slave forever. With that, there is tons of action between the characters while the book is going. It is a mystery because they have to guess on who the killer is. If they are right they have to kill him/her. Then kenny will go back to his world and Caleb will be free.
Rating: Summary: Best book ever!!! Review: Something Upstairs is about a boy who try's telling his story. The boy's name is Kenny. He moves to a house in Rhode Island. The first night Kenny moved there he found out that there was a guest he wouldn't forget. Avi made it so realistic yet mysterious. It makes you want to read on into the night. Rating: Summary: Something Upstairs book review Review: I recomend this book to any people who like scary mysteries. This book has ghost's, time travel, and haunted houses. In my opinion I woul say this is a good book because I hate to read and this book kept me reading tell the end of the book.
Rating: Summary: something Upstairs Review: Recommendation I recommend this book to read for the ages 10 -13. This book tack place in the 1800 and 1990. This book has a lot of feelings "Kenny had the sense to understand the danger. What if he couldn't get himself in the present?" The story has a good discussion of the death. The boy found his room with the door locked. "Authorities can provide no knowledge of the events and surmise in consideration of the fact that since the door was locked from the inside, the boy took was own life". So if you like a good book, read this book. It this book was a lot of good description.
