The story is about a boy named Kenny who moves to this house. What he doesn't know is that it is haunted. That night he moved he was sleeping and he heard something .He heard it coming from the room that a long time ago was the room of a Slave. He goes to the room and sees a ghost. When the ghost sees him, he disapears, this keeps on happening until one night they start to talk. The ghost says that his name is Caleb. So after a little while he said that he wants him to help him find his killer.
In the middle of the book Kenny said he will help him.One night his room changed and so did the world around him .Well im not going to tell you the whole story , because I want you to read the story yourself so you will know the twisted ending.

Summary: Great and Mysterious
Review: I think that this such a great book, I had to read it in 7th grade, and I am glad I did.

In the beggining there is a family that moves in an old house. The story is about a mysterious ghost in the attick, and the boy that sees him the first time doesn't belive he saw anything and
is scared. Then after it happened a few times and the ghost gave him a few "clues", then the boy decided to invastigate.

After looking at old news-papers he finds out that the boy(ghost) who is in the attick was actually killed and wants justice done so he could rest in peace.

Well, I am not going to say anymore, because I think that it would spoil you reading. It is a really great book, and you'll find yourself not wanting to put it down.

Happy reading!

Summary: Cool Book
Review: The story Something Upstairs is a very thrilling story in which Kenny the main character moves to Providence, Rhode Island from southern California. Providence is a pretty old town. One day Kenny pried up the attic door. He saw a fancy. He later found out the fancy's name is Caleb. Caleb is a slave who was murdered, but he doesn't know who murdered him. He's asked Kenny to investigate his murder. Kenny said he would investigate his murder. When Kenny is investigating Caleb's murder he finds out that he is supposed to murder Caleb. At the end of the book you will be surprised to see what happens.
I would recommend this book to who ever dreams about going into the past, and investigating a murder that you feel was impossible to have happened.

Summary: Mysterious Story
Review: A kid named Kenny moved into a new house in Providence. One night he realized something was emerging out of the floor. After a couple of days he was anxious to find out what it was. Kenny went to the library and talked to a man named Mr. Willinghast, but when Kenny told him the story Willinghast scrutinized him. When Kenny found out what that thing was, he was dumbfounded. Kenny found out it was a fancy which was a slave way back in time. He went back in time to find the fancy's killer.
I recommend this book if you're going to read it with your class because you wouldn't understand some things and you would like to hear it aloud. The vocabulary is challenging.

Summary: A Fascinating Story!
Review: In Something Upstairs, Caleb and Kenny have been going through many things in each chapter. Anxiously, they have met some strange and unusual characters. This book was mostly about a young boy who woke up in the middle of the night and found a hand reaching to a bookcase in his attic room. Although they've gotten into disagreements, Kenny and Caleb always find better ways to get through them. They've also had breakthroughs. Throughout the story, they have gauged each other and scrutinized one another to see if they could trust each other. These two characters go a long way from starting point to ending point, together.
I would recommend this book to preteens and older because it shows some difficult vocabulary and scary parts. Another reason is when you read it, you're so anxious to get to the next part you can't even wait.

Summary: Semi-good Book
Review: Something Upstairs
Kenny, a new kid in town, has just moved here from the majestic state of California (...and by here I mean Providence, Rhode Island.) As he comes into his new home he wonders why his parents have made him move to this place of old buildings, and it was very muggy and stifling. Rhode Island was much different then his home town of Los Angeles. Kenny thinks it's much more boring than California but he is in for a surprise. Not very anxious to see his new town, he stays inside his house on Sheldon Street. Backtracking a little bit, when Kenny was going to his new house something caught his eye: a sign that read "Daniel Stillwell 1769". It was the name of the original owner of the house. So, the first night at Kenny's new house was normal until Kenny heard a noise from one of the small rooms in his new attic room. He went to check and something was moving the bookcase his mom put there to cover the stain on the floor. To Kenny's surprise in his own room there was something upstairs other than him. As Kenny walked ever so closely, he sees a ghostly figure appearing. Who would've known that something that rarely ever happens anywhere happens here in the little town of Providence (a.k.a. Boresville, U.S.A.). Many nights pass and every night the ghost comes around 3:00 AM. Kenny decides to befriend the ghost whose name is Caleb. Once Caleb is befriended, he asks Kenny a favor. (See, Caleb was murdered at the ripe old age of 16 - He was a slave. Yes -- a slave. So now Caleb is a ghost from the past. Now it's getting interesting.) Caleb was a slave for Daniel Stillwell. (There's that name again.) So back to the story... Caleb wanted Kenny to find his killer. It seems very hard and Kenny thought he was joking but Caleb was very serious and candid. Kenny was giving Caleb a heavy look, and Kenny was still incredulous at the idea, but he knew by the demanding, scornful look in Caleb's eyes that Caleb was being serious.
The book, Something Upstairs, is good book but only if you're reading it with a group because it is a very confusing book. I myself think that it would be hard to read independently because you would not have anyone to talk to about the book.

Summary: A very odd book.
Review: A review by Joshua
A young Californian boy, named Kenny, meets his own first friend at his new home in Providence, Rhode Island. His name is Caleb, and everything about him is normal except that he is a ghost. Caleb was murdered and cannot find his murderer. He asks Kenny if he can help him solve the mystery. That is the only way to get rid of his "memory," or himself.

This book was an interesting book. At most times throughout the story I was confused. I only gave it three stars because I thought that it could have been a little more stuff happening throughout the story. Most of the story was rushed and I couldn't grasp all of the information. This is one of the weirdest books that I have ever read. I probably wouldn't go to the library and get another book written by Avi. I am sure that he has other books but this isn't one of his best. The book was interesting but it did not appeal to my interests.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone to read because of its difficulty to follow but I would to someone who would like to read a good, easy book.
