Summary: Something Upstairs, by Avi
Review: This book is a good read for kids just starting the young adult readers book. It is about a boy named Kenny Huldorf, who had just moved into a new house in Providence Rhode Island. He is living in a house that was owned by many different people, 12 families to be exact, dating back to 1636 the day it was built. His parents give him the attic for his room, though he does not know there is a little room at then end of his room. It was used for a slave living quarters. One night when kenny is asleep, he hears a noise comming from the room, he came to investigate and he saw some of his boxes moving across the floor, and under them was a little glowing stain, with two hands sticking out. Eventually a whole body had emerged and kenny was in shock. Kenny has seen the ghost that haunts his new home. He realizes that this boy was a black slave, and trys to talk with him, he only disapeers though. So the next day kenny went to the historian in the library and got information on his home. He finds out that there were slaves once living in his home. The next night he sees the ghost again, but this time when he goes back to go to his bed, its not his bed...or his room. He had traveled back in time to the time of the boy...Caleb. He ran outside saw the new world, and was amazed, nothing was the same, but yet everything was the same (if that makes any sense to you). He reaches in his pocket for his dodgers key chain closes his eyes and he is back in his time. Caleb finds out about this, and asks Kenny to help him find how he died...find his murderer!

Summary: A Good History and Mystery Book
Review: "Something Upstairs" is the only book I have ever read by the author, AVI. If this one is any indication, I should read more of him because I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The story centers around two main characters: Kenny Huldorf, a boy who has just moved into a new house in Providence, Rhode Island; and the ghost of a slave he meets in his room, Caleb. Caleb was murdered in the room that Kenny discovers him and, after several meetings to earn Caleb's trust, their search for who killed Caleb and why he was murdered begins.

This book has enough twists and turns in it for to be a real page-turner. I've read it several times, and I've enjoyed it very much each time. The author claims that all the events in the book are real; in the forward, he claims that he actually met the boy, Kenny Huldorf, and was able to research everything the boy told him. I guess the reader will have to determine for himself/herself whether the events that unfold within the book are actually true.

The suspense level is also very-well maintained in this book as well. There is a twist toward the end that sort of throws the whole book on its ear, and it is only then that Kenny realizes the amplifications of what is actually going on in his adventure with Caleb to find a murderer.

I would highly recommend this book to young readers who like books with a little bit of history, a whole lot of mystery and a healthy dose of twists and turns. "Something Upstairs" is a genuinely good book, worth reading over and over again.

Summary: Something Upstairs by Avi
Review: A book that is fear provoking yet emotional tends to attract and grab the reader¡¦s interest to the book. ¡§Something Upstairs,¡¨ by Avi is a successful book that illustrates two people in a rather different time period, the past and the present.
Kenny was a boy who moved into a new neighborhood where he found himself in a trend of mysteries and questions. Meeting a slave boy, Caleb, whose spirit has revisited Kenny¡¦s room every night, was in need of help urgently. Avi has expressed through words how deeply Caleb wanted Kenny to help, but because of what happened to Caleb, he has lost his trust in ¡¥humans¡¦ never did he lose such strong trust before his death. Caleb was murdered blindly without knowing who it was, and because of that, he was back to search for the murderer but he needed someone to do the job. Kenny was the chosen one, he did what he could but not much help was being done, this led Caleb being more irritated and irate at Kenny for not keeping his word. But Kenny is destined to find out the answer on his eerie adventure to the past. Trouble was lurking around the corner as if trouble was expecting him to be present.
This story portrays the friendship between these two different people from two different time periods. By reading this book, I¡¦ve learned how trust and friendship could change someone¡¦s life. Especially when Caleb and Kenny went through ups and downs, both conflicting over trust and courage. Avi has also mentioned memories and the morality of life when one is still alive. Memory was probably the essential idea about this book. Whereas Caleb was the memory in the ¡¥present¡¦ was not being able to leave without finding the answer to whom the murderer was. While I was reading, it made me think about many events in life as questions poured into my mind about life afterwards and how life can be so innocent. Avi has written this book so into depth that it makes the readers think that it¡¦s a real lifetime story, believe or not it¡¦s actually a spine-chilling book that gave me the Goosebumps when it comes to the ¡¥ghost¡¦ description.
Well it¡¦s up to you if you want to read this book and find out the ending, personally, I think it¡¦s a wonderful book to read so hope you all enjoy reading!

Summary: Good Book
Review: Something Upstairs
By: Avi
This story starts out with a child telling the author of the book about an event that he experienced. The story is about a boy named Kenny. He moves from his house in California to Rhode Island. Upstairs, there is a dark stain on the floor. At night, the ghost of a young boy comes out of the stain. All that the ghost does is feel around on the wall as if looking for a way out. The ghost seems scared of Kenny. After several meetings, the ghost talks to Kenny. The ghost's name is Caleb. When he was alive, he was a slave. Caleb does not trust him at all. He wants Kenny to help him pass on to the afterlife. He would do this by going back in time and preventing Caleb's murder. I liked this book because it kept you guessing on what was about to happen. This book was very well written and descriptive about the characters and surroundings. I would recommend choosing to read this book if you like mysteries and suspense.

Summary: Something Upstairs
Review: I thought this book, "Something Upstairs" was a great book for kids to read all over the nation. Avi knows how to write a mystery that catch people's hearts, and minds through the power of his words. He set the time of the book between the 1800's and the present with Caleb being a boy from the 1800's and haunting a house which Kenny lives in, in the present time. Kenny seeks to help Caleb escape his ghostly predicament only to find he is in danger of losing his life if they follow through with their joint plan. Their dilemna takes a dangerous twist and the reader will not know the outcome until the very end of the book.
"Something Upstairs" is a book that you will not want to put down. Enjoy reading!
