Summary: Where's the Surprise?
Review: I'm on page 155 of this book and there have only been two "real" events: Tess finds a skeleton in her cellar, which she doesn't have enough courage or smarts to do anything about, and Dolly's cat had four kittens. Guess how the book is going to end: Andrew, the "mysterious" hunk next door, and Tess fall madly in love .. ho hum, ho hum.. and the skeleton turns out to be somebody's ancestor or planted there to scare poor Tess away. No wonder men don't usually like women authors! This is hardly on a par with Lisa Scottoline, Patricia Cornwall, Eileen Goudge or even Mary Higgins Clark. Although I usually read a good book in a day or two, I've added the task of reading 50 pages a day to my list of daily chores. Also irritating is the fact that the book is titled "The Carriage House" and although the cover portrays various houses, there is no carriage house among them. Apparently not even the artist read this book.

Summary: AN EXCITING, SUSPENSEFUL READ!
Review: Ms. Neggers books keep getting better and better. The Carriage House is a wonderful. Its packed with suspense, humor and romance. Ms. Neggers writing style brings the characters vividly to life.

Tess Haviland, is an independent woman looking for answers. Andrew, is her neighbor, with a 6,going on 20,year old daughter, who knows it all. Throw in a few shady(?)characters and you're hooked.

If you're looking for a good read, you can't do any better than The Carriage House.

Summary: Ocean front property
Review: The book was a fast read. I thought the greatest part of the book was the way all the characters were portrayed. Tess and Andrew, the two main characters, were very close to their induvidual family members. Their family was very oppinionated, boisterous and humorous. You never knew what they were going to say or do next. The Mystery was not that hard to figure out. It was how everything was going to pan out in the end is what will keep you reading this book. All in all it wasn't a bad book. I would reccomend it to others to read.

Summary: Mediocre at Best
Review: This is my first Carla Neggers book and I had higher hopes for it. It is listed as a romantic suspense, however, the romance was ordinary and there was little suspense. I don't care for books where it is obvious who the killer is early on and you have to wait for all the other players to figure it out. That is what this book does. I think the idea for the story was good but somewhere along the way the plot fizzled out.

Summary: Not that great
Review: This was an average book - it kept me interested, but barely. I've been enjoying Neggers' books for a few months now, but this was my least favorite. The romance was barely in the book at all - the two main characters hardly even interacted and we're supposed to believe they're in love after two kisses? Yeah. Anyway, the suspense wasn't all that captivating either, and the main character (Tess) was rather cold towards her family, I thought. I think Neggers is a good writer though and would suggest starting with some of her other material first.

Summary: Ghost, skeletons and a "hottie" next door!
Review: What more could a woman ask for? Actually, when Tess Haviland is handed a deed instead of a check for payment of design work she does for a rich, arrogant, disliked client in the form of a run-down, lakeshore home, she's unprepared for more then fixing up an old carriage house. What she gets is a historical house with an interesting background and next door neighbors that consist of a Adam, a handsome widower with a 6 year old enchanting daughter, and Harl, the Vietnam vet and former police officer with a crusty exterior that hides a marshmellow heart. Those are the pluses. On the minus side, she has rumors of ghost in her house and a skeleton that is here one minute and gone the next in her cellar.

Ms. Neggers weaves a story of mystery and suspense around the compelling characters she writes about. The outcome was fairly predictable, but an interesting read from start to finish. I loved this book!

Summary: This book started great, but then it went to the dumps.
Review: When a person finds a dead body in the basement, you call the police. I can not believe that Tess did not do that. After that the book seemed to go down hill. I figured out that Ike was the skeleton and who had killed him before I was even half way through the book.
I did enjoy the interactions of the characters to each other. I really enjoyed Dolly Thorne's daughter, the little princess. I like that Tess was not any wimp by any standards, and the fact that she was not perfect in figuring out the mystery. I would not recommend this book for the suspense, but I would recommend this book as a good romance.
