Rating: Summary: Nice Debut Novel Review: 'Perfect Evil' is truly a nice debut novel, but also remeniscent of other serial killer novels. Like the one scene where Maggie (the FBI profiler) gives Nick (the small town, albeit hansome sherriff) a Pepsi. Not to drink, mind you, but to put on the back of ones head to cool off after viewing a particularly grisly autospy of a child. I finished this book in about 3 hours, couldn't put it down. It was the gotta that hooked me, as I a gotta find out how this is going to end. Ms. Kava leaves this W I D E open for her next novel that is according to the front of this book is due to be released next August. And the title is even mentioned, 'Split Second'. I too, am not going to rehash the plot for you, since it has been done too many times. Just suffice it to say that if you have a couple of hours to kill and are looking for a quick paced novel, this one will do quite nicely. Thanks for reading! **Pandora
Rating: Summary: Stock characters, predictable romance Review: This novel is about the serial murder of young children, yet the main characters (and FBI profiler - who incidentally does no profiling - and a local sheriff) spend the entire book, (sometimes even while they are gazing at the dead children) feeling their own bodies tingle and watching the other with pent up lust. It you like romance novels, you'll probably like this. If you like mystery, believable characters and plot, pass it up.
Rating: Summary: An excellant thriller Review: This is authors first novel. Watch out Mary Higgens Clark and James Patterson. This lady keeps you glued to this book. Excellant story line and each couple pages you cant put book down . I am looking forward to sequel.
Rating: Summary: Must read--hurry sequel! Review: This debut thriller from Ms. Alex Kava is a stunner. Nick Morelli is a small time sheriff with a big city problem - a serial killer is preying on young boys. Enter FBI profiler, Agent Maggie O'Dell, and a great villian, and you have the ingredients for a dandy page turner. The book sets up for a sequel, and the villian worthy of Hannibal Lechter...(please Ms. Kava, writewritewrite!)
Rating: Summary: Kudo's to Kava Review: This was an exceptional mystery, and a first novel to boot! Really well done......and because it is loosely based on the John Joubert killings in Nebraska, it was especially scary for me since I live in the area. I had to sleep with the lights on for a week! I am anxiously awaiting her next book and I hope it involves Morrelli and O'Dell!
Rating: Summary: WOW for a First Time book this was great Review: I really enjoyed this book. If you enjoy James Patterson and or John Sanford you will be sure to enjoy this one.
Rating: Summary: Excellent First Effort Review: The only disappointing thing about this book is that it is the only one Kava has ever written! I am hooked on O'Dell and Morelli and hope to see more of them in the future. This book was so well written, so belivable - it left me with dreams of the characters and Nixon masks! Can't wait for more!
Rating: Summary: Somewhat amateurish first effort Review: I absolutely agree with the Amazon.com review. While it was a good first effort for a new author, the lack of consistency in the characters and the lack of any procedural knowledge on the part of the author was extremely irritating. About a third of the way through, I began counting the number of times the author used the word "panic" in relation to the supposed hero of the story. It got really annoying. It was as if Mutt and Jeff were running the investigation without any outside assistance. Where were the State cops? Supposedly this story was making national headlines. Where was the DA's office? Instead of any chain of command, the hero (the sheriff) lets his sister and his father run all over his investigation while he sits on the floor in a corner of his office. This is supposed to be a guy who taught at the college level and has a Harvard degree? It was absurd. Meanwhile, after nearly being sliced and diced by a serial killer in her previous case, the heroine (the FBI agent) repeats the exact same mistakes in this case. Supposedly her office is worried about her stability, but she never reports in or gives a status report of the case to her superiors. Never bothers to mention that the new killer is sending her notes or running around with her cell phone. Never tries to trace the killer using the cell phone. It was as if these two characters existed in a complete vacuum. It was totally unbelievable. There were some really nice moments (including the first couple of pages which prompted me to buy the book) which makes me hope that the author will improve with time. I won't purchase another hardback, however.
Rating: Summary: A DEBUT NOVEL THAT FALLS SHORT Review: I am always excited to discover a new author in the genres that I enjoy. So I was excited at the prospect of reading A Perfect Evil after reading the description on the dust jacket. It looked like a book that would call to mind the great work of Tami Hoag. Unfortunately in the end, that was my problem with the book. It was just like Hoag only not as well written. The characters were cartoonish and I kept waiting for a plot twist that never happened. Putting those complaints aside, A Perfect Evil was an entertaining read and I beleive that Kava shows potential for the future. Let's hope that she finds a voice of her own, and in the meantime wait for the paperback. Even better, buy Tami Haog's Night Sins or Guilty as Sin. Those are two mid-western suspense novels that are truly great.
Rating: Summary: A page turner Review: I found this book so good that it was hard to put down. From the very first page you want to keep on reading it until you've finished it. I look forward to her second book.
