Rating: Summary: Far From Perfect Review: Maybe a good revision would have made this book great. The author needed someone saying, "Why is this here?" I liked the characters but what happened three-quarters into the book? The author seemed to lose focus or got overwhelmed with her own creation. To me the sequel is a cop-out. It's more of a continuation of a book that lost its way to the finish line.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful First Book! Review: This book kept me so enthralled - I couldn't put it down. Can hardly wait for her second book to come out. This is a DEFINITE KEEPER!!!! The only down side I experienced was in trying to locate author to send a letter. Would have loved to find out if she is doing any book signing in Calif.
Rating: Summary: Good first book Review: See storyline above.Alex Kava-a female author-has written a good thrilling book. Not a lot of mystery, but quite a bit of suspense, made this story a quick read. The love story angle seemed to be a bit overdone to my liking, especially during a rather gruesome investigation of a serial murderer, who it appears, tortures single parent children before he kills them. There certainly aren't any happily married couples in this story. Overall, a highly graphic, yet satisfying read. Obviously written with a sequel in mind. Recommended
Rating: Summary: Wonderful first novel Review: I thought this book was very well done.Keeps you wanting to turn the pages.I read two or three suspence novels a week and this new author is going to be one of the greats. Can't wait for her next one!!!
Rating: Summary: A Home Run! Review: First time out of the gate and a WINNER!!! I had to keep reading this book continuously; putting it down to do mundane things. I devoured it in 1 1/2 days. I can't wait for the sequel...and we have to wait TWO years!!! Being a former Nebraska gal made me interested; the story plot kept me spellbound; and the ending will keep me looking forward to more.......
Rating: Summary: A good book that could have been better... Review: Warning: Possible vague plot spoilers ahead! Ms. Kava succeeds in getting you to like the characters she wants you to, and to really dislike the ones you should. The story is well-written and moves quickly, but the actions (and inactions) of some the central characters stretch the limits of credibility. There's the occasional undeveloped event (c'mon...what about that dog in the back of the pick-up truck?), and how hard a time does she think a federal agent would have finding out what flight a suspect might be on? All in all, though, a good read. I look forward to the sequel (and the inevitable Stucky-related prequel--get the book and you'll know what I mean) to follow.
Rating: Summary: Alright book. Review: The book was good except for the thing between O'Dell and Nick, other then that I would say it was a good book. It being a murder mystery and parts romantic made it a 3 stars.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story with some "real" people Review: This is a great page-turner. I just had to keep reading to see what happened next. I could identify with these characters, they have real, vulnerable personalities. The sheriff and the FBI agent make a perfect team, throw an overbearing father or two and a "good ole boy" clique into the mix and it really adds to things. The twists that leave questions in your mind are great. I hope there is a sequel because I really would like to follow these people some more. There are so many unanswered questions left that just cry out for a sequel. I highly recommend this book. Very readable, good story line and wonderfully built characters.
Rating: Summary: No putting this one down! Review: I often find myself bored with certain chapters or pages of a book but not this one! It kept my interest from beginning to end. Kava does an excellent job of character development to the point that you feel like you actually know these people! A great thriller I recommend to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Anxious for Sequel Review: This is a great, can't put it down, book!!!!I fell in love with Nick and Maggie, as I am sure all who read this book will. Her style of writing reminds me of my favorite, Patricia Cornwell, with a little of Thomas Harris thrown in. I am sitting on the edge of my chair anxiously waiting for her to finish the sequel. This is a must read for all who enjoy a good mystery thriller!!!!
