Summary: A Perfect Evil
Review: I bought this book because a person I knew was mention in the credits. I did not have high expectations since I had been told this was the authors first book. Boy was I wrong. Alex does a wonderful job keeping the suspense going from begining to end. I did not want to put this book down and as I turned to the last page my thoughts were, when is the next book coming out? Some very impressive research was done to keep this book realistic. Congratulation on a great book and can't wait for the next.

Summary: Huskerose
Review: I received the book as a gift from my daughter. She warned me that I would not be able to put the book down once I read it and her perdiction was very true. Alex Kava is very good in her character definision. She also keeps you reading because you never know what is next. At the end of the book you definetly want to read another. I am really impressed that this is Alex Kava's first book. I personally can't wait for more and I know may others feel the same. Way to go Alex

Summary: Great Read
Review: If you are a fan of Patricia Cornwell, Kathleen Reichs, and Tami Hoag - then this book is for you. I picked it up by a fluke and could not put it down - I could not believe that this was her first book, and I am looking forward to her next one.

Summary: Full of holes
Review: If someone I loved were in danger, I wouldn't want Nick and Maggie on the case. Sheriff Nick Morelli wouldn't know a murderer if he caught one in the act, and FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell is so controlling that she actually does autopsies -- despite the minor fact that she's not even a physician, much less a pathologist! (I'd like to see what a defense attorney would do with "evidence" gathered this way -- assuming that any judge would admit it.)

The constant diversion of these people's sexual attraction was annoying at first, but after I more or less gave up on enjoying the book it just became laughable. Characters' actions and reactions often seemed skewed, not what a real person would do or feel under the circumstances. That, even more than factual errors, spoiled the book for me. This could have been a good story if it had been written with more finesse and depth.

Summary: Remarkably entertaining.
Review: As someone who lives in the East, a novel set in Platte City, Nebraska, is quite unusual. More entertaining are the personalities of the local sheriff, Nick Morrelli, and the FBI agent, Maggie O'Dell. As a first time novelist, Alex Kava has introduced us to charaters who we are inevitably attracted to. Her dialogue is great, and the plot engaging. I look forward to her next effort.

Summary: Terrific new author
Review: i just finished this book at 6:00 this morning after starting it in the evening, I could not put it down, even when the electric went off due to a storm, I used my flashlight to finish it. This book is thrilling, suspencful everything you want in a good book. I hope to see more from this author (very soon). Hurry up with the sequel. Buy this book, you won't regret it. Don't start reading it unless you have the next day off work, because you won't want to stop reading.

Summary: Quick read...
Review: I couldn't put this down, but it is so predictable! You know from the first 40 pages who did it and then you watch these characters struggle to find out. Too much was left undone at the end. Even though she is writing a sequal and trying to set the reader up for that, she didn't give the reader enough in terms of an ending for this one! I give it 3 stars because I could not put the book down until I finished it. But, even when it was finished, I didn't feel any sense of accomplishment, neither on my part, nor the characters. Maybe this should be a summer, beach read...

Summary: WOW! What a rollercoaster ride!
Review: Finally, a female character who can take care of herself and still be "real." Maggie O'Dell is tough and intelligent as an FBI agent but isn't so tough or successful when it comes to her personal life. She's sent to Nebraska to investigate the murder of a little boy and come up with a profile of the killer. Meanwhile back home, her marriage is on the verge of collapse and her dependent mother attempts suicide for the fifth or sixth time. I liked this character very much and appreciated the author giving Maggie vulnerabilities and conflicts we all can relate to, including her sometimes making mistakes professional. Yet, this is a strong woman who can take care of herself. Looks like this could be a start of a series of Maggie O'Dell books. I hope so.

Summary: Okay for a first-time author, but has some holes.
Review: I read this book in a couple of days. I thought the book started off a little slow, but definitely picked up when Maggie arrived on the scene. I liked Maggie and Nick, but after awhile I lost a lot of respect for both of them. I did not like the sequel aspect of the book. I read the book all the way through, and I bought this book, so I do not want to shell out another 25.00 later (and I will not) to see justice done. I would have liked to have seen this book written without us knowing all the way who the killer is. One reason I found it so hard to get into the book is the chapters are so short that it was hard to get into the flow. This seemed like an artificial way to build suspense. I couldn't believe that after Maggie gets her big clue of where the kid, and Nick's nephew might be, she sits down on the floor of his office to talk to him (he is on the floor moping). What incompetence! I would not want her looking for my kid! This scene should have been moved to somewhere else in the book. Finally, the ending was too contrived. Just because the author says this happened and that happened does not mean the reader will believe it. I didn't buy it. I hope this is not the wave of future books where we read the book only to find out the ending is in the next book. It's too much like juvenile literature for me. Still, I see some promise in the writer. I just thinks she needs to write less contrived and more with her heart!
