Summary: The title says it all
Review: I read "A Perfect Evil" in one day. There have been very few books so compelling as to keep me reading for hours on end.

Sheriff Nick Morelli doesn't think he can handle the murder case in Platte City, Nebraska. Sheriff Morelli gets help from FBI agent Maggie O'Dell. Agent O'Dell is obvisouly qualified and talented. But there is a sense that she is dropped into this story to give Morelli a love interest. The developing relationshiip between Morelli and O'Dell is distracting and out of place in this book.

If you put aside the misplaced romance you do get a spine tingler. True evil is currently at work in Platte City. But it appears that evil has been in town for a while. A man was executed for the murders that had taken place in town. Now that new crimes are occuring sheriff Morelli is haunted with the thought: Was an innocent man punished and did Morelli's father know?

I highly recommend this book despite the ill placed romance.

Summary: Unsatisfactory novel...disappointing
Review: Kava tried, but she failed to follow through on the novels premise. The killer was recognizable from the first introduction of the character. Maggie could be a very interesting heroine, but Kava seems to waver between another Clarice Starling or a Kay Scarpetti. The other characters don't really register, and the end twist seems just a ploy to remove some of the predictability. I wish that the ending wasn't so abrupt, and nothing was resolved between Maggie, Nick, Gary or even the killer himself.

Summary: Excellent First Novel!
Review: I read this in one evening! It was riveting. Agent Maggie O'Dell is a great heroine. Full out guts with a very soft spot for Nick! The suspense was excellent. Sure, I recognized several likenesses to other books, but what crime doesnt? I wanted to be entertained by this book and I was. The story moved right along for me and never bogged down. What more can you ask of a book? Treat yourself to a fine mystery/suspense with a little romance thrown in. Hope Nick grows up in the next one. Some of you reviewers are tougher than asphalt!

Summary: Wow! Wow! Wow!!!
Review: Alex Kava has it all! Maggie & Nick are real. Alex unfolds her characters' pasts so uniquely, not the same old boring method of paragraph after paragraph when a character is introduced. Being a mystery addict, the others are good and or great, but Alex just keeps all the action going without any boring places to stop. Alex is unbelievable!! The ending indicated Maggie & Nick will be in more of her books, I certainly hope so. For a newcomer, Alex Kava has climbed to the top rung of the ladder right off the bat!! Alex, you definitely have a new loyal fan. Thanks

Summary: Writer should have watched Discovery Channel before Writing
Review: I thought this was the silliest, no that's too kind, most stupid book ever written. One hour of watching the Discovery Channel would produce a more believable profiler! In real life, this character would have been fired from the FBI for being total inept. Next is the incompetent character of the sheriff. When a sick serial killer kidnaps the sheriff's nephew... the sheriff's stills cannot keep from lusting after the profiler. UGH.... give me a break!!! Plus, 1 star is too many

Summary: Great Thriller!
Review: This is an excellent thriller. It exceeds "The Bone Collector".
I hadn't read anything by Alex Kava previously; however, you can
be assured that I will seek Kava books out in the future. This
one keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times and flows
easily and expectly from character to character. I simply could
not put it down. It would make a great movie.

Summary: A Perfect Evil
Review: I have never been one to like murder mysteries, but this one really grabs you. I could hardly put it down wanted to but couldn't. The surprise ending leaves one yelling "NO!!!!!!!!! It can't be!" I finished this book and wanted more, found more at a bookstore - the second book titled "Split Second." What a wonderful writer! Alex Kava leaves you wanting more, and more and more! I highly recommend everyone buy this book and read it - but don't read it when you are alone on a stormy night. This is a must to everyone's library - it's in mine now!

Summary: The author needed a better master plan...
Review: I tried liking this book but had a hard time with the main characters and in the end I thought it was obvious who the bad person was and still misleading hints were being bantered about. I really didn't like how the author decided to let the reader dangle with the mystery clues and didn't sum them up more clearly or not at all.

There were lots of dumb decisions in the book by the support characters and the main guy. One is after a boy was kidnapped and found how the parents let him out of their sight within moments of a reunion, only to be found by the bad person again. Then again the author left us dangling by the clues.

Obviously, not recommeded by me. I would save your bucks and buy somthing else that is more plausable and better thought out. I mean the bad person was allowed to continue the killing spree because the profiler was too tired and worn out. Give me a real hero that could figure this out and get it taken care of. Maybe Greg Isles profiler John Kaiser could help out.

Summary: Excellent
Review: First, let me say I am by no means a professional. I just like to read all sorts of books. A quick note to a few of my fellow reviewers: Do your OWN research! Had you read the ENTIRE book, you would have known that Alex Kava is a "she", not a "he". Ms. Kava kept my interest throughout most of the book. I was amused by the station KRAP, but hey, stranger things have happened. I found myself "skimming" through a few low spots, but not many. The story was superbly written and I will be reading the next novel to see what happend with Maggie O'dell. The chemistry between her and Nick even got this "I don't read romance novels" man hoping for the inevitable. Bravo, Ms. Kava, and I can't wait to read the next book. Keep 'em coming!
