Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: "The Disappearance" is the first book I have read by Jasmine Cresswell. It's a wonderful romantic suspense story. I love books that have me thinking about the characters when I should be doing other things like working, and this book definitely did just that. I'm looking forward to reading another Jamsmine Cresswell book soon.
Rating: Summary: Action packed political romantic thriller Review: Medical research scientist Joe Malone worries that by leaving his remote Amazon village, he risks his life. However, nothing happens to him until he arrives in Miami where he is arrested for cocaine smuggling. Joe realizes that his enemies need him alive to give them the formula to his newest discovery, a revolutionary wonder drug that will save thousands of lives. A group claiming to be the Brazilian Justice League kidnaps Joe's friend environmental scientist Summer Shepherd, daughter of the Secretary of State, Gordon Shepherd. The group contacts Gordon's brother-in-law, diplomat Duncan Ryder. They demand the swap of Summer for Joe. For the past decade, Duncan has loved Summer, who feels scorn for him. In spite of his deep concern, he sets up the successful trade. As Summer begins to appreciate Duncan, she feels Joe has been abducted by his enemies, not rescued by his friends. As the duo falls in love, they start to uncover a conspiracy that, if revealed, has international implications. Anyone who has not read a Jasmine Cresswell romantic intrigue has either been in a coma or illiterate. Her stories emphasize the intrigue without deteriorating the romance. Her current tale, THE DISAPPEARANCE embellishes Ms. Cresswell's deserved reputation. Though the solution to the rain forest issue is too simplistic, the action-packed story line is filled with political intrigue and a well-designed surprise ending. The lead protagonists are an endearing couple and the support cast brings DC to life. This is another winning novel by one of the all-time great authors. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Nice, but lots of holes Review: As far as mindless romances go, this one is not bad. You can get the general story from the other reviews so I won't repeat it. What bothered me about it were the huge gaps in the plot and some basic missing information. The thing that annoyed me the most (being a bit of an environmentalist myself) was the fact that the author didn't know the difference between global warming/climate change and depletion of the ozone layer. She treated them as if they are one issue when they are completely different! Completely different causes, different issues and different solutions. Cutting down the rain forest has no relation to the ozone layer! You would think that if the author was going to write a book about an environmentalist, she would at least get some basic knowledge. Another thing I found really annoying was the fact that there was no description of the heroine or hero. The book started out with the impression that the heroine was a drab scientist, insecure about her looks with limited dress and fashion sense. The hero was heart-throb whose girlfriends only lasted a month at most. BUT the hero has been in love with her for 10 years! How and why when they barely spoke to each other and hardly met? No explanation. Suddenly, towards the end of the book, you realize that the stepmother, who is presented as an immaculate, gorgeous, well groomed woman, is actually jealous of the heroine because of how goodlooking and stylish she is, no matter what she is wearing?! There are a lot of these inconsistencies in the book. I generally don't expect too much from this type of book as I read them purely for mindless relaxation. However, I found the inconsistencies in this one somewhat annoying. It was a shame because overall, I liked the characters and the book could have gone up one star if there had been less inconsistencies and information gaps.

Rating: Summary: Gripping suspense and great romance Review: Definitely a winner! The topic is as timely as the headlines, and this author writes like a dream. Where do writers get this stuff? I was with the characters every second which was a lot better than reality, because I read this book while on a very aggravating plane flight! Prepare for an absorbing pageturner!

Rating: Summary: Jasmine Cresswell just gets better and better Review: I've read all of Ms. Cresswell's suspense novels and look forward to each new one. She combines well-drawn characters, humor, plot twists and heartpounding excitement into one seamless whole. Summer and Duncan are one of her best "teams" and the rain forest problem mixed with Washington politics makes for a terrific story.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Book! Review: Jasmine Cresswell perfectly blends romance and suspense in the way that few authors can. This is a real page-turner!
Rating: Summary: Exciting plot spoiled by character problems Review: This book had a great plot with international intrigue, kidnapping, and romance. The author also showed wonderful mastery of suspense and a knack for great point of view. Unfortunately, several things kept me from enjoying this novel. The excessive number of obnoxious secondary characters; a tendency to melodrama; and illogical choices by the heroine. For example, why did Summer distrust the hero without really knowing him? Another thing really bugged me. At times, it seems as if everyone hates the heroine. She is the daughter of the secretary of state, yet almost every public official seems to distrust her, simply because she's an environmentalist! Gee, that's a professional attitude, guys. Finally, the characters like to lecture each other about the rain forest, politics, and so forth. These people know about these things already, so there's no reason for them to repeat these facts to each other. I gave this book a C- at All About Romance.
