Rating: Summary: Hey, is the little prince true Review: This book annoyed me in the begining because I hate reading books. But when I started reading the book i realized that the book was kind of fun. It showed the little prince teaching to adults that sometimes you should listen to little kids too. They also have their own problems. Teenages are mostly ignored in the big world. If you are a parent or an adult try and do this. You find something amazing in your teenager or kid. They have many great ideas that have never been thoughy off, so listen to them. I though to me self that I am growing up to be an adult soon so I used this idea. I went to talk to a kid in my neiborhood. I started talking to him and I found something. He said ,"don't be like my parent ok". Then I realized what he was trying to tell me. He was trying to tell me to be serious all the time it will just make you life bad. So that made me understand kids more. Kid want to have good time all the time but the good times can't stay all the time. So if you are a parent try to make your kids have a good time if you can.
Rating: Summary: for adults?!? Review: Personally, I think that this book has way to many metaphors, which makes it hard to understand. So for this reason, it takes time to actually understand what the characters, especially the Little Prince, is trying to say. For example, a rose is not just a rose, but it actually symbolizes something much more deeper than that. However, unlike most people, I did not find the book touching at all, maybe because the story was too complicated for me with all its figurative language. Moreover, people seems to find this book suitable for children, mainly because of the illustrations. However, I think that the content of this book is much too intrigate for children to actually understand, and would be much more suitable for adults who wishes to "discover themself" or "rediscover themself"
Rating: Summary: The Little Prince Review: At first, The Little Prince was like an ordinary fantasy story for children. With people living on stars and talking flowers, i was surprised that it was chosen as an 8th grade reading novel. As i read this chosen class picture book, i soon understood how its very meanigful, thought-provoking metaphores may be what is so special and hard to understand about the book. In my opinion, i think that some of the metaphores mensioned are a little too confusing to interpret. I believe that for younger readers, they will probably be able to read the book as a fantasy novel. For older readers, beginning at around my age, i believe is able to read this in a metaphorical way. It is very meaningful and gives a lot of thoughts for readers.
Rating: Summary: The Little Prince; Eternal King of Novels Review: 'The Little Prince' is a fascinating tale for people of all ages. Children may read it because of its nifty, colorful drawings, teenagers may read it to delve further into self-discovery, and adults may want to read it because it contains a variety of figurative language. The author (Charles de Saint Exupery) has made the book so children can follow a story, but teenagers and adults can find a figurative meaning. For example, the story refers to a baobab as a very dangerous tree. If it is not uprooted while it is small, it will become too large to get rid of. The baobabs represent habits and addictions. If someone is exposed to a certain activity and acquires it, they will begin to feel natural doing the activity and soon, they will be doing it without even noticing. At that point, it is too late to get rid of the habit. The complexity in this story doesn't come from the plot, but from the characters and what they reveal to each other. The lessons taught by the Little Prince aren't spelled out for everyone to see; they are hidden behind words. If you are looking for a book that will captivate you, the reader, from start to finish is the Little Prince. Magic, figurative language, and lessons critical to leading a successful life are as abundant in the story as clothing is around the world.
Rating: Summary: Not So Good Review: In my opinion this is not a very good book, Because it uses to many metaphors. I found it very confusing and very boring. several times I found my self falling a sleep wile reading it. I can't under stand my so many people like this book, to me it seams like a waste of paper.
Rating: Summary: The Most Brain-Twisting Book Review: Many recommendations were made about "The Little Prince" by the French author Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It was believed to be the most translated book in France. Recently after reading the book myself, I was amazed by how the author could write it in very simple words but with very essential meanings. Since our teacher already told us to keep in mind about those figurative languages used in the story,I had been looking for metaphors and personifications while reading the book. It was really difficult to find the connection with the real world. Sometimes I knew that there must be a secret meaning of some phrases and words but I just couldn't figure out what it was exactly. For example, the baobab in the story was a very huge clue to the explosion of something if you don't take care of it before hand. However, it took me a while to put the connections into words even though I knew there must have been a deeper message in the descriptions of this plant. It was a very brain-twisting book. You have to put a lot of thoughts about what you are reading. The words that you are reading are not just the simple words you see. You must read it with your heart, read it over in your mind and picture the scene of what is being described. I especially love the quote "One never sees clearly with its eye. What is essential is invisible to the eye." I thought it was a very thoughtful and meaningful phrase. I strongly agree with it because I thought it was really true of how people normally doesn't see things with only their eyes; people can't see the other side of the story with their eyes. Also, the ending of the story was very sad and astonishing. Of course I'm not going to reveal the ending of you visitors that haven't read the book yet, got to read it yourself! However, I thought some parts of the book was very confusing. If it wasn't for teacher's hints and helps from other classmates, I wouldn't be able to understand many of the figurative languages. Nevertheless, overal, it was a very fascinating book. I specially bought one of "The Little Prince" in Mandarin since we used the school book in English when I read it. I think I would definitely refer to it again after I am more experienced in the future.
Rating: Summary: The Little Prince Ain't So Big Review: Lately, the book that our class has been reading was The Little Prince. In my opinion, this book was my least favorite out of all the books I've read this year. I find this very strange becasue so many other people I've talked to really enjoy the novel. I guess the plot just didn't click with me. I found it extremly hard to stay focused while reading the book becasue it was overly metaphorical.
Rating: Summary: Wise Beyond his Years Review: The Little Prince, by Antoine Saint-Exupery, was a book that I found boring at first because it is, after all, a childrens fairytale. But then I looked closer, beneath all the glitz of the prince's interplanetary escapades, and I saw the elegant satire on life and the crazy things that adults do. The little prince (book) also helped me shake up my own life and appreciate the things I have. The profound message of this book helped me understand a little bit more about myself. Even though I didn't enjoy the book at first read, I learned to appreciate the hidden messages and the brilliance of Mr. Saint-Exupery's work. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Intelligent and humane book Review: 'Little Prince' is a marvellous book presenting a valuable view of life and human nature written in a childish fable style. Antoine De Saint-Exupery succeeds in being unostentatious in presentating his point of view while some other authors tend to be more insistent in trying to teach their readers. On my personal point of view this book holds lots of lore that could be adopted by humans to preserve their humanity. I was so astonished by this work that re-read it for second time immediately after finishing my first read. And I think there is no piece of text that is not meant to be interpreted by the reader in more abstract way. The uniquiety of this book for me is that it will probably appeal to a child although will be interpreted in a totally different way. Furthermore - it could probably be interpreted in a different way by every person who reads it. And that's a thing that cannot be achieved easily.Written more than 50 years ago during World War II, messages that this book holds can be related to nowadays world without any modification. And I'm sure this will not change after another 50 years. There is some magic in the character of Little Prince - he behaves like a child, he is pure like a child and thinks and acts firstly as a human being. In his presense adults acting in a reasonable way, conforming to society invented unnatural criterias look funny and incomprehensible. I noted that there was not a single character in the book that was evil in nature, although some of the characters will hardly wake up possitive attitude in the reader's mind. And every character represents something - be it human characteristic and chosen way of life (all inhabitants on planets Little Prince visited before coming on Earth) or an inevitable point in life cycle (the snake could be interpreted as the death) or simply what your minds wraps around the character. A metaphor I found very worthy (one of the many) is that of the unique rose. The Little Prince finds uniquety of his rose through the cares he has put for her. Also the water that the narrator and Little Prince find in the desert after a tough wandering and retrieved wistfully. That water was some kind enriched when finally reached. Or the simplicity of the Little Prince's planet compared to the complexity of the possessions on planet Earth. And that fact opposed to the love and devotion Little Prince feels to his home planet... I can go like this till I cite almost everything from the book. This piece of literature art is brief in words, but possesses concentrated content rich in meaning. A must read book.
Rating: Summary: A truly beautiful book Review: The Little Prince is a children's book for adults. The reader can see this clearly as early on as the dedication where it reads: "TO LEON WERTH- I ask the indulgence of the children who may read this book for dedicating it to a grown-up. I have a serious reason: he is my best friend I have in the world. I have another reason: this grown-up understands everything, even books about children. I have a third reason: he lives in France where he is hungry and cold. He needs cheering up. If al of these reason are not enough, I will dedicate the book to the child from whom this grown-up grew. All grown-ups were once children-- although few of them remember it. And so I correct my dedication: TO LEON WERTH when he was a little boy" There is and never shall be a book written with more love and compassion for life such as The Little Prince.
