Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book of Subtle Beauty Review: When I received a version of this book to read in my Spanish class, I thought that it was just going to be a stupid little children's book. I even went out and bought the English version of the book because I did not want to bother reading it in Spanish. However, once I started reading it, I discovered that it was much more. This book is one with many different levels and a great deal of meaning to it. It makes you laugh at the charming universal truths that it brings to light, but it also makes you weep with sadness. You come to love the little prince just as the author did. This book is a definite must read and I would recommend it to a person of any age. It will truly change the way you look at life and I look forward to giving it to my child to read when I am much older.
Rating: Summary: What is important in your life? Review: The first time I read this book was in secondary school. At that time, it was just a story to me. It was about the journey of a little prince from planet to planet. A few years later, I read this book again. The feeling is totally different. It is not simply a story. It can make me be aware of the baobabs in the adult world, the world I begin to go into. It also reminds me of what is important in my life. Adults, in general, are superficial. They only know to work, work and work. They would like to do what other people do. And they are indulged in command and obey without asking why, just like the kings, conceited men, drunkards, businessmen, lamplighters and geographers. Rarely do they think about the meaning of their life. Why are adults occupied by baobabs? Why can't they find what are important in their life? How about you? Do you find what is important in your life? The little prince has already found - Love with the rose and friendship with the pilot and fox. Don't be occupied by baobabs. "One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes" Then can you find what is important in your life.
Rating: Summary: One of my all time bests Review: Many people stop reading children's books when they grow up, they're wrong.Saint-Exupéry turns here to words one of the most beautiful and magic adventures you could ever think of.Even after more than ten years since I last read "The Little Prince", it still makes me laugh and cry like a kid. The book comes with simple and poetic drawings made by the author himself, adding another dimention to his fantasy.Pure heartwarming magic that you no more find in today's world.
Rating: Summary: Lost in Translation Review: This is just a note to say beware of the new translation if you've previously read and enjoyed the Katherine Woods version. Mr. Howard makes the argument in his "translator's note" that the language has changed since the 1940's and that a new translation is needed. I couldn't disagree more. And I [do] speak with some experience on this subject: I read this title at school in the original French language for three different classes, as well as numerous times in English (the Woods version). Katherine Woods beautifully captured the feel of the French original. The new, Howard translation is in a more modern English which mostly succeeds at removing the poetry that previously existed and little else that I can find. It does not make the story any more clear or nuanced than it previously was, rather less so. I find the arguments for a new translation indefencible. Three stars is not a review of the book, but of the translation. This title is beyond excellent, but you might do yourself a favor and find a used copy with the Woods translation (there are many copies out there). Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: "The grown-ups are certainly very, very odd..." Review: Deceptive in its simplicity, this book holds more wisdom than Confuscius himself. However, no one should attempt to analyze and symbolize things from this book because it is meant to be taken just as it is; analysis would be something adults would do! Take it for what it is, enjoy it, interpret it, learn from it, and love it. It is the The Best Book i've ever read. Absolutely marvelous!!!
Rating: Summary: The Little Prince...I Don't really like it. Review: This books is just not my type of book. I did not really get anything from this book because I have to go over the metaphors before I can understand it. Anyways, this book tells the grown ups all over the world that they can still use their imaginations even though they have matured and have a job. This is some connections I heard from Einstein. Einstein said that Imaginations are more important than knowledge because Imagination creates knowledge. This book made me read it even though I wasn't very interested to it because it makes me think deeply of some words that are hard to understand and while I read the book, it reminded me of my childhood because I use to use my imaginations, ofcourse, probably all the kids use their imaginations. Now that I have grown, I forgot about imagining because I've grown up a lot. Just like in the book, when the little prince was growing up, he is losing his imaginations.
Rating: Summary: Figuratively Interesting Review: The Little Prince is a book full of wonders. It brings out the real thoughts of things you wouldn't really think about. After reading this book, I was a little perplexed by what all of the authors figurative language meant, but after a long time of thinking I understood what it was all about. It is about love and friendship and thinking deeply about or for something or someone. There was one sentence that really came out of the book and caught my attention. It was "What is essential, must be seen with the heart". This really made me think about how true it is. There are so many feelings and emotions that are only seen with the heart. And one of them is love. It is the most essential emotion of all. That is why I think the main themes in this book are love and friendship. I have learned a lot from this book as well. One main thing that I have learned is how to identify figurative language. It might be confusing at first, but after you understand, you feel really good about your self. If you want a very good book to read, don't choose this one, but if you are a figurative kind of person, then this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Fairy tale or Complex? Review: One thing i liked about this book was that it was short. But the problem was, was this a fairytale or was it a thick complex book that was summerized into pictures and quotes?i was amazed by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry because around that time there was a war going on, i beilive it was world war 1 but how could he want to right a book during a time or violance and distractions from almost every part of the world. Overall i think this was a simple book with a strong mess to life. i still dont understand the messege and i hope to read the book again in a few years.
Rating: Summary: New outlook on life Review: At first, I thought this book was the strangest book I had ever read. I wondered why I had to read this. I was to old for this! I told myself. However, you don't get the true meaning of the book until you reflect on it. Almost every page has a deeper meaning than first meets the eye. The lessons tought in this book will change your outlook on life, and make you think about life in a different way. I am glad I read this book and would definitly recomend it to everyone, young and old.
Rating: Summary: The journey of growing up Review: I thought this was an extraordinary book. It taught me so many things about growing up and all about life. Some people found it hard to understand because of the metaphors, but i think it's just a matter of whether you want to take the time to understand it or not. When i started reading "The Little Prince," i thought it would just be another boring book that was assigned to us, just to waste our time. This was so much more than just a book i was forced to read, it was one of the very few that i enjoyed reading. From talking flowers to laughing stars, this book kept me interested. I followed the boy through the journey of his life from the unhappy parts such as the baobabs, to the happy touching moment such as the laughing stars. This is a truly touching book and i plan on reading it again some time in the future.
