Rating: Summary: cool little story...you probably wont get it Review: I really enjoyed reading this...it is definatly a book that is not only a good read, but a great book to read into... my favorite type of book is one that makes you think, and makes you think of all kinds of parallels in the real world to help you make sense of the story, and i came up with some very interesting ones for this story, and had a good time thinking about them...i bet very few people truly get this book, its a lot like the film joe vs the volcano (strange analagy i know, unless, your cool and know what im talkin' bout)..most people will think its just silly but there are tons of deep truths about life within them...joe is a little more upbeat, but the ending of M is a happy one i think, well, sort of...
Rating: Summary: Kafka at his best Review: I enjoyed this book so much i read it one sitting. Kafka's writing is fluid and easy-to-understand, yet after finishing the story it left me in a state of wonderment, and made me question whether Gregor Samsa actually turned into a cockroach or was just neurotic or in a state of psychosis. The Metamorphosis is different from other books i've read because of its element of the fantastic yet, in a sense, it seems so painfully real.
Rating: Summary: Much more than meets the eye Review: I just recently read this book (it's actually a novella) for English class and I was pleasantly surprised. This book dwells deep down into the psychological effects of negativity, insecurities, and isolationism. This novel is very surreal, in that not everything necessarily has to make sense. As a warning to those who are used to novels that are very literal and not very deep in the levels of symbolism and figurative language, you may not enjoy this story. This is a very good story which may require a level up on your analytical skills. Also, if you are a fan of the film maker David Lynch, you will definitly enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: NOW WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO A GIANT INSECT Review: I was very eager to read to book. I think it might be fair to say that this is probably Kafka's most referred to book. To me the story starts out great,I was even laughing at the sitution Samsa found himself in. But I'd say 20 or 25 pages into the book it actually gets boring! The whole sitution starts to get "stale". You begin not to care about the character and just want to stop reading it all together! I don't mean to bash the book completely, it is very well written, but lacks fire after a while. NOT THE WORST THING I EVER READ,BUT YOU COULD DO BETTER!
Rating: Summary: A Surrealist Painting Transcribed Review: Franz Kafka was the truest writer of our time. This was because he never applied the label of writer to himself. He was not driven by anything other than to write, and keep in mind that he did not write for you to read; you've ventured into an untouched river. This is why you can not distinguish the characters in his work with the man; they are the same. This story will confuse you like no other you have ever read, but if you can give it meaning within your own life(and this scenario of a workaholic etc.,is perfect for the U.S.)then you will gain incite on Kafka, and realize that you may also be one of his characters.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant beyond belief. Review: This is a wonderful book. A close parallel to Kafka's own life at the time, "Metamorphosis" essentially represents Kafka's personal struggle with isolation, as well as the antipathy that society feels towards any deviances (which is what Kafka considered himself). "Samsa" may/may not be a cryptogram for "Kafka" and the "Transsubstantiation" that Samsa undergoes is also ambiguous. Is the whole book a dream? That's for you to figure out. In any case if you are a half way thoughtful individual but this book. The notes are especially helpful.
Rating: Summary: Drama novel Review: The Metamorphosis is a novel about a man who finds himself transformed into a huge insect, and the effects of this change upon his life. By the way this young man becomes an object of disgrace to his family and an outsider in his own home.... I found that this book is a very descriptive story which gives a new point of view about socitey. I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and drama.
Rating: Summary: A well descripted metaphor for the dieing process. Review: Metamorphosis is a book that has been written about the dramatic change one man must go through. It relates to all the pain his family must endure as well as he must endure physically and mentally. The whole book is written as a metaphor in relation to his terminal illness. The book starts in action when he awakes to dicover he is not well anymore. I thought that this was a very descriptive story. It allows you a visual picture of what is going on. I recommend this book to anyone who likes dramas.
Rating: Summary: over-all it is weird. Review: I did not find this novella very amusing, i only had to read it for a research paper. If you don't want to waste alot of your time, then don't even pick this one up!
Rating: Summary: A haunting story Review: "When Gregor Samsa got up in the morning, he found himself transformed into a gigantic insect..." begins Kafka's famous Metamorphosis. I believe this is the most famous first opening sentence in twentieth century literature. In the whole story, Kafka took no interest in explaning why Gregor was transformed into a gigantic insect. Instead, there are detail descriptions of the change of his life, his circumstances and relationship between him and the external world after his transformation: how he regressed into an insectile existence and how he alienated himself from his family. His sister brought food scrapes on a piece of newspaper, he was bound in his room and his father even threw apples at him after he ventured out of his room resulting in his fatal injury. Can anyone criticize Gregor's family of the way they treat him? Whether it is right or not,I believe one of the main themes in the story is when you become a gigantic insect, you do behave like a gigantic insect and the world will treat you as a gigantic insect. The full horror of this story sinks in when nearly everyone can be transformed into a gigantic insect at anytime; like phyical and mental illnesses, accidents and injuries, degenerative and terminal illnesses, etc. There will be no explanation given no matter how unfair this transformation is done to an individual person. Finally, Gregor believed that it was reasonable for him to die for the best interest of his family. I felt so sad after I finished the book. Is everyone undergoing a process of metamorphosis either slowly or quickly?
