Rating: Summary: Magical Review: I really enjoyed the many series of this book. It was well written in a sense that it had meaning and real applications in a thoughtful perspective. Dreamy with a little sense of reality.
Rating: Summary: A red-headed charmer with a delightful zaney sense of humor Review: I remember reading Pippi Longstocking for the first time. I was immediately drawn into the story of this independent and quirky kid, no parents in tow, who confidently moves into her Villa with a monkey and horse. Her nutty antics, her seeming unconcern for the conventional and bizarre remarks all have that Scandinavian sense of humor that's hard to define, but very tart and funny. No wonder this book has become a children's classic. And I have to confess, I still giggle over it today. A real winnder and great for a young reader.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I thought that Pippi Longstocking was an excellent book. It was very exciting and full of adventure. I thought that it was cool that she had a monkey for a pet. I also liked that she lived alone, being a nine year old girl, yet she could take care of herself. If Pippi wasn't out making trouble she was at home cooking on the kitchen floor. She does everything that comes her way. She has a very high self-esteem and she is almost always up to something, whether it be dancing with the robbers or talking about her grandmother's housekeeper, Malin. I would recommend this book to older elementary students. They would have a fun time reading all the crazy things Pippi does.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE BEST BOOK MY CLASS HAS READ...SO FAR... Review: I THOUGHT THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD BOOK BECAUSE I LIKED HOW PIPI WAS VERY STRONG AND INSISTED ON GIVING ORDERS TO HERSELF, IN ORDER TO KEEP HER SELF IN LINE. THIS SHOWS HOW STRONG A PERSON REALLY CAN BE---BOTH PHSICALLY AND MENTALY. THE BOOK IS REALLY, REALLY GOOD AND SHOULD BE READ BY ALL AGES...WELL, IN THE SECOND THROUGH FIFTH GRADE.
Rating: Summary: A review from Shannon Review: I would give this book 5 stars because she made me laugh and it was very interesting. When Pippi put her horse on the porch it made me laugh because horses usually don't go on the porch. What Pippi said was interesting but most of the tales were not true. For example once Pippi said "my father is king of the cannibals". Pippi has a nice monkey. I feel sad that Pippi does not have a mother. Pippi has a porch in front of her house just like I do. but instead of horse or monlkey I have a dog.
Rating: Summary: A definite Must Have! Review: If you haven't introduced your kids to Pippi, they're missing out! I loved Pippi as a kid. She was so outrageously funny. She got away with all kinds of nonsense and had the most amazing adventures. So when I read it again, as a parent this time, I was happy to find that they were just as good as I remembered. My 8 year old laughs and laughs at Pippi. This is a great book to read aloud. My favorite part is Pippi's hilarious tall tales about people she has known. A Classic!
Rating: Summary: I want this film, and I wish everyone could see it! Review: It does not talk down to children -- and, I am 35, and I have been trying to get this film for years. I certainly hope the studio releases it soon, because it is timeless and brilliant. It is a refreshing, intelligent great adventure, and the original Pippi is so unlike the moralistic, watered-down children portrayed in Hollywood movies that I think American children (and adults) need her.
Rating: Summary: For Young Girls, Skip This One Review: It might be heretical, but parents of girls younger than eight or so might consider passing on this book. Pippi herself might be a bold and self-confident person, but the portrayal of straight-man kids Tommy and Annika is problematic. Annika is passive, shy, and plays a secondary part in most action. The type casting and sexism are very strong in this book: for instance, when Pippi takes the sister and brother on their first finding-spree, Tommy finds a notebook, whereas Annika finds a necklace. Also it's always "Tommy and Annika", never "Annika and Tommy", and Tommy the stronger speech patterns. Do a boy-girl role swap and suddenly Tommy occupies the back-seat wimp spot formerly held by Annika. By "normal" standards, he becomes rather faint and pathetic. Also, the supernatural strength that Pippi exhibits creates an air of unreality and unattainability about her position -- okay for pure fantasy, I guess, but consider that the primary fallback role alternative for girls is Annika the Wimp. What happens to girls when they find that they can't bench-press a horse or hold two cops by their collars?

Rating: Summary: Pippi is as good a role model as the 1999 US soccer team! Review: Just as the Nike commercial teases " anything you can do, I can do better...," Pippi shows us she is completely unphased by historical male-female role imprinting (or behavioral imprinting, while we're at it) She's benevolent and caring and I want to find copies of the original '70s releases for my 2 year old daughter! We found a rental copy of the first episode, and my daughter has developed an alter-ego.
