Review: When I was in 7th grade I had a teacher who read us a manuscript that he said was to be published some day - he read it through aloud and and then asked the class for our opinions. That teacher was a friend of the author Ms. Holman who was still working on the book back in 1985. For years I was plagued by memories of this unpublished book read aloud to me when I was 13 - a book that had yet to even be titled. I was haunted by memories of this young boy trying to survive on his own. I loved the story. It challenged me, scared me, and has become a permanent part of my memory. Please share this now long time published book with an adolescent you know. When you are trying to survive your friends, your self-image, and every other petty concern - hearing this boy's struggle puts it all in perspective.
