Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: greater than the sum of its parts Review: Dessen's plot performs a rare and elegant twist of surprise at the end that forces you re-evaluate all that you have read up until that point. It thus becomes greater than the sum of its parts, an uncommon quality in a young adult novel.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Pleasant Summer Read (or any time for that matter) Review: The relaxed and believable voice of the young female narrator in this novel for young adults is something that not just teens can enjoy. Her dry wit and thoughtful observations about the ups and downs of her simple life recently complicated by the impending marriage of her older sister allow readers to smile and understand the agony of being "second born," living in a home altered by divorce, and feeling like everyone around you is different. This is a realistic, often sadly humorous look at one girl's struggle with change -- something we can all relate to.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: My favorite book Review: That Summer is really my favorite book ever. The voice of the protagonist reminds me so much of myself. This book doesn't have a lot of twists and turns; instead it's a genuine book about growing up.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: this book is great read it if you can Review: I think the book "That Summer was a great book. I also think that the way that Sarah Dessen described herself a was written just the way a 15 girl would feel. this is also a very sad story.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Not Your Average Teen Summer Story Review: That Summer is a witty and heartwarming view of the turning point in the life of a young girl. Dessens characters are colorful and believable, and her main character shows an amazingly down-to-earth and realistic personality. A book that makes you feel good about yourself when you're reading it, and leaves you with pleasant memories afterwards.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: That Summer Review: That summer was such a touching book. I've heard it over and over again and every time I end up crying at the end. It connects with some many teenagers and what their lives are like. You sometimes wonder if a teenager was writing the book. I will always love That Summer and never will stop reading it no matter what age I am.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Gives teens a honest character Review: I really enjoyed this book. I am 14 years old and often find it hard to find good young adult books which don't make teens into either drug addicts or goody-two shoes. This book has characters which are convincing and do teens justice. I would definitly recommend this book for some laughs and good reading.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A lot Like Me: That Summer Review: I recently read "That Summer" and I loved it. This book reminded me of the past two years in my life. My parents divoriced and everything in my life sucked. I felt a lot like Haven, confused, scared and out-of-place. This book made me realize that sometimes you have to put the past behind you and move on. Even if it means letting go of something you love so much, you just have to learn to give it up. Just like Haven there always comes a time when we just want to runaway, but we can't. We have to face our fears with open arms. Dessen did an excellent job! I sure hope to enjoy others by her as well. Highly recommended for all ages!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: That Summer Review: "That Summer" entails Havens heartwarming memories of the past summers, with her sisters boyfriends, and parents marriage problems, along with her own hopes, thoughts, and dreams for her life still waiting to unfold in front of her. as haven stumbles across the summer she encounters confrontations with Sumner, her sisters old boyfriend, Gwendoly Rodgers, the town celebrity model, and "the weather pet" her dads new wife. Dessen describes perfectly the feelings of a 15 year old girl, and the summer feelings that every one enjoys as they think back to the summer when life really began.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Sarah's biggest fan raves about her great book Review: "That Summer" is by far the best book I have ever read. I couldn't find a book as wonderful before I read it and I haven't found one since. Sarah Dessen writes with such insight and humor and description, all used to the right degree in the right places. Haven and Sumner and Casey and Lewis and even Ashley are such lovable characters that I wish I knew them. "That Summer" is definitely worth reading once or twice. Or a hundred times. The more times I read it, the more I love it. Definitely a worthwhile read.
