Summary: Classic Tale of Toys With a Heart
Review: The classic childrens story of a new toy - The Velveteen Rabbit, and a little boys love for it. Also it was the story of toys and how they become real; when the boy truly loves them. Without giving away too much of the story, I do sense a sadness to the story whenever I read it. Perhaps its in the writing. Yet, nonetheless, there is a classic story here thats been told and retold many times, and this is one of the times that its told well and honestly. Highly reccomened to children and adults.

Summary: Does it hurt to be real?
Review: This is my all-time favorite children's book! A little boy receives a stuffed rabbit for Christmas, and they love each other until one day...This book is so true and honest in its emotion, you will not be able to read it without shedding tears. It deserves much more than 5 stars. Read it aloud with your child...share the beauty and the love.

Summary: ALWAYS A FAVORITE!
Review: Most youngsters have a favorite toy, which may be why they have always loved The Velveteen Rabbit or How Toys Become Real.

Today small eyes and ears will respond just as eagerly to the
reassuring story of a stuffed rabbit miraculously transformed by love.
First published in 1922, this classic tale loses none of its power in today's brightly illustrated abridged version which is more accessible for a younger audience. Ages 3 and up.

Summary: A TRUE CLASSIC FILLED WITH A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Review: I seldom write reviews on children's books, although I love them with a passion. My children are now mothers and my grandchildren are past young childhood. However, I believe that somewhere deep inside each of us remains a small child that still loves fairy tales, cotton candy, and walking barefoot in the grass. This book was one of my children's favourites, along with "Charlotte's Web;" both were also my own personal favourites. When my children were six years old reading this book became a nighly adventure until I knew the words by heart. For the reviewer who rated the book with a one star due to a spelling error, my heart goes out to you; you have sadly missed something very important - the message. The book is not about spelling, editing or lack thereof; it is about encouragement and love.

The book tells the story of a toy, sawdust-filled rabbit who wishes with all his heart to become real. The message contained in this book is poignant, heart-warming and touching, and one that you will never foreget as long as you live. It is a story of beauty, wonder and love. Any child who misses out on "The Velveteen Rabbit" is missing out on one of life's greatest lessons. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful, wonderful book and highly recommend it to children...and the grown-up child in all of us.

Summary: It's wonderful every time I read it!
Review: I make sure I use this book with each class I teach--3rd and4th graders. They always get it--that love makes us real, too. Theymake the connection between the Skin Horse becoming shabby and people getting old. I always bring in my stuffed velveteen rabbit I bought years ago and it starts making the rounds and popping up on different children's laps. It is a pleasure to see them become attached to the rabbit instead of "mechanical toys that were very superior, and looked down upon everyone else." They also relate to the lessons the Velveteen Rabbit learns from the Skin Horse about how becoming real is a painful process sometimes and can take a long time.

Summary: Too sad for me
Review: I've never liked this story and I had to hear it a lot as a child since it's a "classic." The rabbit's martyrdom made me cry every time it was read to me and actually gave me nightmares as a young child. This is one book from my childhood I will not be reading to my son.

Summary: One of the Best Children's Books ever
Review: This was my favorite book growing up, and started a love of reading that I have to this day. The message it gives is timeless -- magic can happen if you are steadfast and believe.

I recommend this for all children, and for anyone who needs to be reminded of the power of love.

Summary: A must read for ALL ages!
Review: This book is a must read for all ages. I also sincerely recommend it for the more "mature" reader. There is a wonderful tale of being loved and and learning that not being needed anymore doesn't mean you aren't or never were loved or needed. Again excellent book for all ages. Expecially for the "kid" inside all of us adults. It will bring that feeling of childlike play and wonder back to your mind. Don't just give it to your child. Read it to them, with them, and do it more than once. Becoming real, is real, honest, and fun for all ages!

Summary: Hope my stuffed animals become real!
Review: I'm 32 and have introduced this book to my husband, 38, who had never read it as a kid. We just lost our old stuffed animals as a result of a fire in our house:

-Chigger, a stuffed tiger my husband gave me for Valentine's day the first year we were married
-Pierre, a handmade stuffed cat discolored from tearstains, with fraying ears and a rather rubbed-off felt face that I got at my grandmother's church crafts fair when I was about 7
-Ted E. Bear, my mother's bear from when she was pregnant with me
-Floppy, a little floppy dog I got my husband at Walgreens while I was out buying medicine for him late one night this fall.
-Brown Beauty, who looks like I always imagined the Skin Horse...not physically beautiful at all but very gentle.

Would you believe the home restoration company washed the animals and then...accidently threw them in the dumpster. Ouch.

So I told my husband about this book, and now we can imagine that somewhere, there's a real tiger, a real cat, a real dog and a real brown bear who can finally run and jump like the others. All of them were loved.

Summary: Children's book, my foot! This is a book for EVERYONE!
Review: This was a favorite childhood book of mine, and this touching tale stayed with me even as a grown-up lady. I lost my copy in a move long ago, borrowed the book from someone else, and I loved it as much as I did as a little girl (I went and bought my own copy, plus the sequel THE SKIN HORSE)
Yeah, I know that the "Product Details" list it as "for ages 4-8," and you know what? I don't care! To cram it into a box marked with an age group doesn't do it justice, for it has themes that are timeless and universal -- love, friendship, feeling appreciated and cared for, meaning something to someone and having them mean something to you, aging, social hierarchy. If this is a children's book, then it's a children's book you never outgrow! 5 stars? I'd give it 10 if I could!
