Rating: Summary: Good...but not Great! Review: This book was good. I personally liked alot of Suzanne Brockmann's other books alot better. For instance, "The Admiral's Bride" was a great book! Bodygaurd was average. I did not find the main characters very likeable! Alessandra was annoying...Harry was better, but not much. This story has been done to many times to count!
Rating: Summary: I read it to my husband Review: To keep my husband alert during a long drive and not wanting to do any driving myself, I started reading this book aloud. Having never read any of this author's books, I really didn't know what I was getting us into. We both enjoyed her vivid attention to detail, her keen sense of humor and editorializing, and her clever style. My husband chuckled as much as I did. Who cares if Alessandra liked makeup and clothes and Harry was a little too short? Read beyond the characterizations and enjoy the charismatic story that brings these two love-lost characters together.
Rating: Summary: UNCONVINCING Review: Try as I would, I couldn't get up much enthusiasm for Alessandra and Harry. She wasn't convincing. He was, but I was a lot more interested in the rest of his life than I was in his relationship with Alessandra. I found the suspense part hokey and unconvincing. Ms. Brockmann's earlier HEARTTHROB was a lot better read.
Rating: Summary: My first book by Brockmann, but won't be the last Review: Unlike a lot of the reviewers on the site, I really enjoyed BODYGUARD. I thought it started somewhat slowly, but once I got into it, I had a hard time putting the book down. I really like romances where both characters grow during the course of the action and this was certainly true here. Harry starts out unattractively driven, but the reader gradually finds out why, just as they find out why the heroine has had to depend so heavily on her looks. The secondary characters were fascinating, too, always a plus...I rather liked that the secondary plot wasn't tied up neatly. It made it seem more real, like life often turns out. After closing BODYGUARD, I immediately went to the bookstore to look for Brockmann's backlist...she has a nice style and a lot of story with her romance, a combination I enjoy.
Rating: Summary: great story Review: Unlike the other reader in this review, I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the hero, Harry, was having a difficult time emotionally with the loss of his son and he felt a tremendous amount of guilt. When someone cannot identify with this type of emotion, they have not dealt with the pains of losing someone very close. I was glad to see that he finally realized he "needed" somebody. Certainly our heroine's emotional being grew also. I think Suzanne does an excellent job in not only telling a great story, but also in developing her characters along the way so that in the end you never forget them. In fact, George shows up again in Out of Control.

Rating: Summary: Suz just gets better and better.... Review: What can you say about an author who writes fast and delivers every time? Well, as an editor and huge romance fan, there's nothing better, and that's why I love working with Suzanne Brockmann. BODYGUARD has everything that her many fans have come to expect and more. One of the things that stands out for me about Suz's books is her secondary characters and with George and Shaun, she's created two of her best ever.
Rating: Summary: Brockmann had yet to hit her stride. . . Review: When she wrote this novel. The realism is there, as are the wisecracks and the emotional pull, but it leaves something to be desired. The subplot with George, his ex-wife and current boss, Nicole, and his current mistress and ex-wife-lookalike Kim left me with a bad taste in my mouth, mostly because it was unresolved and bitter. But I guess that's more of Brockmann's realism there because for most people, divorce can be unresolved and bitter, and to a greater degree than what is displayed in this novel.Once again, the movie projector in my mind chose people to star in this novel, most noticeably Gary Sinise as Harry. (Love Gary, he's got passion and talent. Here's looking at you, kid.) I couldn't think of someone to play Alessandra, and I didn't warm to her very well because I'm not classically gorgeous nor have I ever lived in a mansion on Long Island, but I have had some pretty awful haircuts. I think I felt the most for Shawn, Harry's son, and his friendship with Mindy. That was poignant and so true to life. I was glad to get that little lift at the end when the two of them come face-to-face five years later. Brockmann needed a little more tact when handling the question of Shaun's sexuality. Not bad for a sophomore attempt, but it needed a little more delicacy. The high points are the sex scenes, which Brockmann nailed (excuse the expression) perfectly. I love getting inside of her male character's heads instead of the usual women's reactions. Sex seems to be a much more primal instinct for men according to my observations, but Brockmann's characterizations go to a different level when her men are engaged in intercourse. One thing that should be said here, though: french kissing in the morning pre-toothbrushing is not for the faint-hearted. Most authors forget that when they have their characters go at it after a long night's sleep during which time many bacteria have had the chance to grow in one's mouth and halitosis reigns supreme. Or perhaps they both fell asleep chewing gum. . .? Oh well, a solid little tale. Better to purchase it secondhand, or borrow it from a friend than pay full price. Spend your hard-earned cash on "The Unsung Hero" or "The Defiant Hero."
