Summary: View from an advance reader: Gritty and Compelling
Review: "Body Guard", Suzanne Brockmann's newest novel from Fawcett Gold Medal, again demonstrates her mastery of the romantic adventure. The tale brings together loose-cannon FBI agent Harry O'Dell, and Alessandra Lamont, an ex-mob trophy wife with a contract on her head. When the FBI's plan to use Alessandra as bait to catch a mob boss goes wrong, she is ready to take her chances and walk away from protective custody. But Harry convinces her to stick with him, and the two set off on a dangerous, cross-country game of hide and seek.

Brockmann weaves complex characterizations, tight plotting, compelling subplots, touches of wry humor, emotion and suspense into an intricate, gritty tale of love and danger. All in all, another winner from the pen of Suzanne Brockmann!

Summary: One of the Best Books I've Read!
Review: A fan of Suzanne Brockmann's for many years, I wasn't sure how I would like her new mainstream books, but they are wonderful. I enjoyed HEART THROB, but BODYGUARD has to be one of my all time favorites. This tale was gritty and so well-told that I couldn't put it down. The hero, not your typical handsome hunk, certainly turned into a hunk in my eyes before I was even halfway through the book. Ms. Brockmann has certainly proven that she can write compelling, exciting tales no matter what the genre.

Summary: There's a lot happening in this book...
Review: Alessandra and Harry go on the run together. She's running from the mob; and he's running from her, his family, his memories. Also, he's trying to protect Alessandra.

I really liked the ideas behind this story. It really is my favorite kind of read--one with plenty of action, some suspense, good supporting characters (too good!), and love scenes.

My problems with Body Guard/Bodyguard is the fact that the partner seemed much more interesting than Harry. Harry, for me, was actually the weaker lead. I liked Alessandra. She tries to take care of herself, rise from the ashes etc. Harry is a tortured hero without a whole lot of pluses. I'm afraid I pictured Peter Falk of Columbo fame when I read this book. At least, until Harry put on his jeans. Now Harry's partner--let's all hope that becomes a full story!

I, too, had problems with the Azalea bush. And so that I don't give away too much plot--I'll say nothing more. Also didn't like Harry going to see his kids when he and Alessandra are being tracked. Seemed way too risky and unlikely a scenario. I guess to complete the romance part of the story, Ms. Brockmann had to bring the characters together. But, I found that plot thread very weak.

Finally, I think this would be a better book to listen to or watch--because of all the action and the plot. Certainly not a bad read, just a disappointment.

Summary: I absolutely loved it!
Review: All of her books are enchanting to me. Her writing and her characters mezmerize. The plot was easy to follow and I loved every minute of the unfolding. Keep up the good work Susan! I can't wait for the next one.

Summary: A complex and modern love story.
Review: Although there were many subplots going on, the love story between Harry and the heroine was interesting. She was a little too pretty to be realistic, but I liked her. The conflict and emotions were very believable, and the author pulled the whole story together in the end.

Summary: Romantic Times Review
Review: At 27 years old, Alessandra Lamont is a divorced trophy wife. To be honest, she is happy to be rid of her husband Griffin for it now allows her to try to adopt a special-needs baby. Unfortunately Alessandras dreams are placed on hold when she finds that not only has Griffin mortgaged everything, he also stole money from alleged mob boss Michael Trotta.

When Griffins murdered body turns up, Alessandra really starts to worry. Michael Trotta and his henchmen believe Alessandra knows where the missing money is located. She is given a deadline to return the money or else.

FBI agents Harry ODell and George Faulkner have been after Michael Trotta for a long time, and now they see an opportunity to nail him. Alessandra wants nothing to do with the FBI or the mob. She is determined to find the money, give it back and go on with her life.

Things dont go as planned, as someone tries to kill Alessandra despite her return of the money. Alessandra is taken into protective custody by Harry, but there is still danger lurking.

BODYGUARD is the fabulous follow-up to Suzanne Brockmanns first single-title release. Romantic suspense is obviously Ms. Brockmanns forte and she proves it at every turn. (Dec., 360 pp., $5.99)

Summary: WINNER OF THE PRESTIGIOUS ROMANCE WRITERS OF AMERICA *RITA*
Review: BODY GUARD is a winner!

Readers love Suz Brockmann's books, and so do her fellow writers!! Suz won the coverted RITA award ( in fact she won TWO!) at the National RWA conference held this year in Washington DC. The award is voted on by the members of RWA. Suz was voted the best of the best by her peers.

If you haven't snapped up all of Suz's back titles, do so now. One of these days they won't be had for any amount of money! Avoid the rush <g>

Summary: A good read
Review: Bodyguard was a good read. The characters were fully realized, the writing was excellent. I'm sorry to say that the book never really gained my full attention. I found myself skipping pages. The hero was your typical tortured hero and I liked his character. The secondary characters almost stole the show and held my interest more than the main characters. As for the heroine, I've read better.<G> Her focus on her looks was rather annoying. I thought her shallow and silly. A good read but I've read better from Brockmann and haven't given up on her. HEARTHROB is still tops with me. Brockmann, when she's good, the woman is good. I've enjoyed her Navy SEAL titles like Prince Joe, Harvard's Education, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear and The Admiral's Bride. Brockmann is a very talented writer and I am definately looking forward to her longer, more involved Navy SEAL, full length novel.

Summary: I'd take the Whitney Houston movie, please.
Review: How disappointing - for one, this book has a hero who spends half the time in denial or running away from his problems instead of facing them head on like a man. The heroine is a silly woman who isn't sure whether she wants to boink Harry, mistrust him, or take on the Mafia single-handedly. When these two characters spend their time bickering (or boinking) with little quiet moments to tell me they actually feel more than lust for each other... well, I don't think I really buy it.

Oh, there's a sympathetic teenage boy and a poor wronged woman of ill repute, but with Harry and his girlfriend and Harry's mule of a partner and the latter's messy love triangle causing a spillover of unpleasantness over every page, I just stop caring.

I wonder what's wrong with this story - I mean, everyone loves it but me! But upon some introsprective thinking, I decide that "Bodyguard" fails where "Heartthrob" succeeds because the former never actually succeeds in convincing me that the two main characters are in for real. Was it Sandra Bullock's character in the movie "Speed" that said shared dire circumstances isn't the best way to start a relationship?
