Rating: Summary: A Real Page Turner Review: Kimberly Lawson Roby is at the top of her game. A Taste Of Reality was a book that I just could not put down. I completed it in 1 1/2 days. I'm recommending it to all of my friends.
Rating: Summary: A Taste of Reality Review: All of Kimbrela Lawson Roby's books deal with real life issues and A Taste of Reality is no exception. The main character, Anise Miller, was a strong professional Black female faced with many obstacles - sexism, racism, failing marriage,... but the sister prevailed. She had tremendous patience with her husband, even though he didn't appreciate her. Her strong family ties sustained her during some of the darker times of her life. Without giving away the ending, it had an interesting twist, but that is typical of Ms. Roby's writing style. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and didn't want to put it down until the last page!
Rating: Summary: A Taste of Reality Review: A taste of Reality really hit home for me because I work in an office environment and have experienced racism. Kimberly Lawson Roby's book was a page turner for me I could not put this book down. I'm waiting on the next novel! One thing I would like to add is that in spite of all the racism that we may experience whatever blessing God has for you, you will receive. If you haven,t read all of Kim's novels you are missing a blessing!
Rating: Summary: Realistic yet good Review: I have enjoyed Ms Roby's novels over the years, and this one is no exception. Not only did her character do her job, she did her homework as well and came out doing well in the end. You got to find out how the antagonists were feeling in the story as well as those who were victims as well. My only beef was that after reading it a while, I tend to get bogged down in this woman's struggle with the company. I cannot even think that they would stoop so low to put a woman with the most minimal of education in a position that should have easily went to our heroine. Just goes to show you there's still work to be down in this country.
Rating: Summary: A Real Good Taste of Reality! Review: This book (as all of Kim's books) was outstanding. The characters were truly real and the content was relative to the 21st century. I've had the opportunity to read each of Kimberly Lawson Roby's books and i've YET to be disappointed. I don't think I ever will. I am a realist and each of her books certainly keep it REAL! Thank you so much for writing and sharing your gift with the world!
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Mary Monroe, author, "God Don't Like Ugly" Review: I started reading this book while I was still in the book store where I purchased it, read it through lunch and dinner and finished it around 4 in the morning. Having worked (and suffered...) in corporate America for umpteen years, I could relate to most of what Sistah-girl had to go through. When I was finally able to leave my old nightmare of a job, I left that place running. Reading this book brought back a lot of painful memories; backstabbing co-workers, racism, etc. but that didn't stop me from enjoying every word. However, I have to agree with an earlier review about Anise and her relationship with that creep she was married to. Not only would I (and every sistah I know) have changed the locks after he left, when he came back and talked about her like a dog, I would have bounced something hard off his head. This story was quite different from "Casting the First Stone" (my favorite by this author), but just as enjoyable. I waited a long time for this book and it was worth it.
Rating: Summary: Tastefully Written Review: This was a good read. It was very tasteflly written. It appeared a little different from her other novels but overall it was a pleasant read. Keep up the good work Kimberla Lawson Roby.
Rating: Summary: A Taste of Reality is off the chain Review: This book was so totally real. From the office politics to the relationships between husband and wife the book captured it all. I read this book in one day. I could not stop turning the pages. In particular, Kimberla captured what really goes on behind the scenes in the workplace. I particularly liked the way she dealt with Anise's budding romantic interaccial relationship. I also appreciate the fact that Kimberla did not sugar coat the plot so that everything would come out like a fairy tale. This book is definately worth purchasing! A very quick read! Thank you Ms. Lawson for another outstanding portrayal.
Rating: Summary: A Taste of Reality Review: Anise's husband just ticked me off. I wanted her to be a little more difficult regarding her divorce. She did handle it the way a "lady" should handle considering her circumstances. However, from a Christian point of view let the Lord fight your battle. From the sista girl perspective, it is on now. (smile) Frank, I found to be wishy washy he wanted her to confess her feelings in the midst of all that she was dealing with and be sincere about them. Then, his ex pops out of no where and he is confused about his true feelings. Oh my goodness!!!! I guess that old saying applies Men, can't live with em, can't kill em. HA HA!!!! So we are stuck with them. The plot of the story was very good. I really did enjoy it in between a tear or two. Thanks again for the good read.
Rating: Summary: Realistic Review: Racism in the workplace is one thing, but having to come home to an un-supporting husband, who degrades your skin color and leave you for another woman from the same ethnic group who is causing you so much grief, is enough to bring anybody down. But Anise rises above her employer and marriage downfalls or does she? Read this thought provoked novel to get a taste of reality.
