Rating: Summary: Unfortunately It Is Reality! Review: Before I start, please do not allow my rating to discourage you from reading this book! This is an excellent story and is definitely a page turner, you will not want to put it down. I will explain my rating in a moment. Anise is a educated black woman with morals, she is married to a successful black man (David) who is insecure in himself. He is the worse type a black man, one who ridicules his own race and places himself above all others. He evens demeans the one person that he has vowed to cherish, His Wife! Anise works for a racist run company and is making less money and is constantly overlooked because she is a black woman, which is a double whammy. She realizes that her marriage is falling apart and is ready to take responsiblity for her contribution to he mess it is in and has a night of passion that she believes will be a turning point in her marriage, when she incidently discovers that her sellout husband has betrayed her in the worse way. Now something that she least expects happens, a white man is attracted to her and against all odds, Frank is all the man she needs, but then is he too good to be true? Fed up with the mess her life is in, and determined to stop allowing these men in her life stomp all over her, she takes control. She has a plan for her racist superiors and with a little help, she shows them that this backwood black woman (a nice way of saying what they think of her) is one to be reckoned with. She also has a turn of events for her husband, he thinks that he will manipulate her out of half of everything, convincing her to leave the marriage with what she came in with, but she is no fool and will soon learn if anyone is losing out on anything it is him. She does flip the script on all of them, including her one true friend that she thought she had at work. Kimberla has really shown a tail spin in this novel, with one woman dealing with racist superiors, a selfish sellout husband, and the desires of a fruitful career and family life! I do recommend this book! Excellent book for book clubs, alot to discuss. Now for my rating, I rated this a 3 and would really give the first section of the book a 4 and the last a 3, because Anise doesn't handle the situation quite like I hoped and I didn't get any satisfaction at the very end. I wanted more with David and as for Frank I was truelly disappointed and wanted more. Maybe there will be a sequel, at least I hope so!
Rating: Summary: A Taste of Reality keeps it real! Review: I started this book yesterday and finished it this afternoon! I loved this contemporary novel....I believe that this endeavor is the best of Kimberla Lawson Roby's work...The points that I liked about this book.... I. Accurate description of workplace racism II. Loving depiction of mother-daughter relationship as well as Sistergirl relationship III. The twists and turns in storytelling...was I the only one that thought that the "other woman" was going to be the driver in the fender bender with Anise? Although Frank seemed like a nice guy, their swift coupling was not that believable to me..... Other than that, I love it!!! My Mom is reading it now....
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS AWESOME Review: Thanks Kim for writing another awesome book. I have read a lot of your books and I am really amazed at how unpredictable your books are. Most of the books that I read have a tendency to follow the same pattern with a slightly different plot but each of your books have different personalities. I can't predict what the ending is going to be like. I have a problem putting the book down and when I finish too quickly I get mad at myself because I don't want it to end. Whenever I talk to someone who doesn't like to read, I refer him or her to one of your books and guess what, I have to refer that person to other books that you have written. Continue the good work. Love Ya Yvonne
Rating: Summary: BRAVO! Review: It took me three days to read "A Taste of Reality, only because I was juggling many other tasks at the time. Yes, I loved it and once I got half way the book, I couldn't put it down. With each book that you write, I'm forever amazed over how you always bring something fresh and interesting to your readers. I definitely recommend this book to people of all races. I'll hold your autographed copy of "A Taste of Reality" dear to my heart, while I wait for the next book!!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down Review: I really enjoyed this book. I was not able to put this book down; it kept me on my toes because I kept getting surprised about things that kept happening in the book. Also I couldn't wait to find out what was next. The best part about the book as when Anise stood up for herself at her job and decided that she didn't need David anymore. I didn't like the part that Frank picked his ex over Anise, but I guess that it's a taste of reality. I would really like it if there was an update about Anise. It would be so interesting to see Anise find a new man and possible have a child. And it would be real interesting if David was to decide that he wants to get back with Anise. That's only my opinion.
Rating: Summary: It's ok Review: In my opinion this was not Ms. Roby's best book. It was an enjoyable read but it did not have the strong plots of her other books. I would recommend you read this book if you are one of her fans.
Rating: Summary: What a great book. Review: I loved the book. A Taste of Reality" is the greatest book I have ever read. Kimberla Roby really did a fantastic job, with this book. All the things she talked about are still going on in the world, and are going to continue to go on. I seen a commerical the other night dealing with the same thing, and this book came to mine. I thought " this is just letting people know, things like this really are happening". I can't believe their putting something like that on television. Anyway I hope there will be a sequel to A Taste of Reality, because I want to know if Frank will stay with his ex, or will he go back to Anise. I hope to read more of her books in the near future. Keep up the Great work, Kimberla. Thanks, Chanel
Rating: Summary: A Reality Check Review: This book should be read by all colors. It shows that there is still racism in the work place no matter how high on the ladder you are. this book was easy reading but not as good as her others. I enjoyed seeing Anise getting what was hers and not letting fear stop her. But her husband, I could have strangled. There are a lot of brothas who sell out just be accepted, which is not the answer but we all learn from experience.
Rating: Summary: Real LIfe Experince! Review: I really enjoyed A Taste of Reailty.I really like the issues of sexually harassment and racism. You discuss issues that are still going on today, and I enjoyed the ending. Very good book.I have read all of your books, and I look forward to reading your next novel. I am a fan for life, keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: It conveys its message... Review: "A Taste of Reality" is populated by puppet characters who beat you with the moral like mallets. Kimberla Lawson Roby has shown herself capable of better. Regardless, the moral is a worthy one and the story moves fast.
