Rating: Summary: This Was A Good Book Review:
Annotation: "Close To You" is about a television news reporter named Eliza Blake and the life of a news reporter. Eliza is constantly in the spotlight and she seems like she has the perfect life, but when you delve into her life it's not so peachy. She was first devastated by her husband's untimely death from cancer. Then when she thought she could love again, her new boyfriend moved to London for a job and cheated on her. Plenty of other people admire her and some will stop at nothing to make sure they get her.
Author Information: Mary Jane Clark is a writer and producer at CBS News Headquarters in New York. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with degrees in journalism and political science. She has written many best-selling novels including "Nowhere To Run" and "Hide Yourself Away" and many more. She is the daughter of novelist Mary Higgens Clark.
Evaluation: I enjoyed this book "Close To You" by Mary Jane Clark. This is the first book of hers that I have read but I am interested to read more by her. I was first very interested in her mother Mary Higgens Clark's books because they were suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. Then I was presented this book and I figured she would probably good too and she was. I believe that there is a sequel to "Close To You" and I am very eager to get my hands on it since the first one was so good!
Rating: Summary: Predictable Review: As with her previous books, I think Ms. Clark has talent as a writer, but her "suspense" novels are way too predictable. Throwing in so many other characters didn't give me food for thought about who else it might be...it just confused me and made me have to remember too many people. I'd had the murderer's identity figured out within the first few chapters.Eliza's an interesting character and KEY News is an interesting premise...but it'd be nice to see Eliza have some human characteristics and not be so utterly perfect. With a bit of tightening up, Ms. Clark could really be a top author in her genre.
Rating: Summary: Close To You Review Review: Close to You is a universally satisfying novel. It has a strong sense of mystery but also touches on comedy and romance. Eliza Blake is living a nearly utopian life until she decides to move out of the city. Not only is she stalked by a shady bartender, but trouble is sitrred up in the Key Newsroom by her co-workers. Attempting to keep herself and her daughter, Janie, safe, she is reunited with the past she tried to forget. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good read.
Rating: Summary: Close to You by Mary Jane Clark Review: Close to You is about a young anchor-woman who goes through adventure escaping multiple stalkers. She struggles to protect her daughter, while her colleagues and those close to her try and keep her safe from trouble. After moving into a new house with a new nanny, Eliza, being a single mother, has no choice but to feel vulnerable to those after her. But when simple letters turn to threats, and she doesn't know who they are coming from, she starts to suspect everyone that is close to her. Eliza does her best to crack down on her problems, and free herself from harm. Close to You is a book that Clark does a very good job of creating suspence and really makes you relate to all the characters and their feelings. It keeps the pages turning till the end, and creates a new kind of suspence from the celebrity stalker situation. This story was very well developed. If you are looking for a good mystery and can stick with a book, "Close to You" is just for you.
Rating: Summary: This writer keeps getting better and better! Review: Close To You is written by one of my wife Jayne's and I favorite writers. Ms. Clark's writing skilles just keep getting better and better. Close To You is a compelling story where being a celebrity may have more than its fair share of dangers as Elizabeth Blake soon discoveres. Close To You is a real page turner everyone will enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Good-story wanna-be Review: Eliza Blake is a beautiful news anchorwoman who enters your home, and the homes of thousands just like you, every day. For some, this isn't enough. Eliza has multiple "stalkers" sending her sick messages in the mail and on her phone. She and her five year old daughter are being threatened and it must end, before someone ELSE dies. This had the makings of a really great story. In my opinion, it just didn't say all it should have. The main character, Eliza, should have done everything in her power to protect herself and her daughter. She really didn't do squat. She simply stood back, making observations. The writing was very predictable and matter-of-fact; I felt no suspense or any other emotions, for that matter. The dialog was very dull and rigid, like the words were simply pulled from a dictionary. I yelled at the book a couple times. You'll need a little patience with this one.
Rating: Summary: Not her best Review: Eliza Blake is used to being in the public eye. As a news anchorwoman it's a part of her job, but being a celebrity will have a high price, for she has caught the attention of "Meat" a fan who has crossed the line to obsession. Settling in her new home, and trying to prepare her daughter for kindergarten will be hard enough to balance with her demanding job, but nothing will be so demanding as the fight for her life, as "Meat" invades all that she holds private, and forces her to answer the questions: Why have so many people become obsessed with being close to her, and Who could be stalking her, since it could be anyone with a television With no one to trust, Eliza must take matters into her own hands, to keep herself and her daughter from danger. 'Close To You' had the makings of any interesting mystery, but didn't hold up. Peopled with FAR too many characters it is hard to follow. The many plot twists become distracting rather than important to the outcome of the story, and when all is revealed at the end you are left feeling cheated. Although Mary Jane Clark has an easy to read style to her writing, and her insider knowledge of television news is fascinating, it wasn't enough to carry this thriller. Her earlier mysteries were much better. Nick Gonnella
