Summary: THIS IS DEFINITELY A DISAPPOINTMENT.
Review: Sorry to disagree with the rest of the "pack", but I don't feel that this was such a great book. Jo Beth gets on her high horse for no good reason. Her attitude is getting to be old hat. Too much philosophy-ing and not enough action. I have enjoyed all the other titles but have noticed that this "attitude" gets worse with every book and, frankly, its getting on my nerves. Guess I just don't understand why she is such a thin skin when she had overcome so much in her past. The better her life gets, the more attitude she puts on. Maybe the next book will be better, but I'll either read a library copy first or wait till it comes out in paperback.

Summary: I needed bloodhounds to follow the plot...
Review: There seemed to be entirely too much going on in this story, to the point that I lost track of several subplots. Maybe this book showed the heroine in a worse light than most, but I didn't find her charmingly feisty, I found her extremely irritating. Maybe I am simply tired of Southern characters who brag about Southern manners and then are pig-rude to everyone they meet. I am willing to believe that she is more interesting than this book shows her, but I will probably never know. I am fascinated by bloodhounds and I *still* couldn't enjoy this book, so I do not plan to investigate the rest of the series.

If nothing else, any novel that would have a major character's murder trial occupy about two chapters squeezed into the end has got more problems than I care to think about. The fact that, under the circumstances described, the major character would probably never have been charged in real life only made that part more bewildering.

I plan to read a "How To" book about bloodhound training to cleanse my palate, and then never go near another book in this series ever again.

Summary: Great Series
Review: This series is great! I love the characters and always am disappointed when the book ends. Can't wait to read the next one.

Summary: Excellent Siddons' and her bloodhounds entry
Review: Wealthy Alyce Cancannon desperately wants to hire Jo Beth Siddons and her bloodhounds to find the elderly woman's missing cat Amelia. Jo Beth refuses because she has trained her canines to sniff for humans while ignoring the scent of an animal. However, after consulting with the niece of the eccentric Alyce, Jo Beth accepts the incredible offer that no longer seems frivolous. Jo Beth and her animal succeed in reuniting owner and pet, but the sleuth believes that someone wants to harm Alyce. The senior citizen ignores Jo Beth's warning.

An assailant kills Alyce, but her will contained a strange coda. Following the legal instructions, her lawyers hire Jo Beth to discover the identity of her killer. There are numerous suspects who wanted Alyce dead. As the case becomes more complicated by the moment, all Jo Beth wants is to return home to the birth of a new bloodhound litter.

The fifth Jo Beth Siddons' mystery is an intriguing tale that brings segments of Georgia to life. The story line is filled with action as Jo Beth struggles with red herrings and a myriad of viable suspects. Jo Beth remains a tart peach and the support cast adds much dimension to a fine novel. Virginia Lanier has provided readers with an interesting series that stars a strong female protagonist and her beloved canines.

Summary: Hounds to the Rescue.... AGAIN!
Review: While I not sure JoBeth and I would be best buddies, I can see why she is so prickly. I too live down here with those "Southern Boys" So well woven, all the plot lines and sub plots. 10 suspects, ala Madam A.... Skillfully put together and never boring. I never saw the "Villians" or the ending coming! As always wonderful Bloodhounds and lore. I want my own BobbyLee!
