Summary: Right up there with Terry McMillan
Review: IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT SO MANY WOMEN--ESPECIALLY BLACK WOMEN--ENJOYED THIS BOOK. THIS BOOK IS DEGRADING AND A SLAP IN THE FACE OF EVERY AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMAN. BABYSISTER'S (WHAT'S THAT NAME ALL ABOUT?) COMEUPPANCE COMES TOO LATE IN THE BOOK AND HER REJECTION OF DARREN IS PATHETIC, TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, AND NOT DRAMATIC ENOUGH. THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN BY AN EDUCATED BLACK WOMAN WITH AN MFA WHO TEACHES CREATIVE WRITING? BE SERIOUS! BUT I GUESS IF MS. SWINDLE'S OBJECTIVE IS TO GET THIS MADE INTO A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE, THEN SHE'S RIGHT UP THERE WITH TERRY McMILLAN.

Summary: Oh puh-leez, puh-leez, puh-leez!
Review: So this is what passes for writing these days: A lazy reader's Toni Morrison cum Danielle Steel. This book reads like a rehash of about fifty other novels. Babysister . . .um, isn't that from Beloved?

Summary: It's Good, Good, Good!
Review: Please, Please, Please is good, good, good - to the last word!

Babysister, the main character has witnessed a traumatic event early on as a child. Her father tries to overcompensate her because of this and spoils her rotten in the process. While Babysister is being spoiled rotten by her father, her older brother, Malcolm, who will become her life-long nemesis, feels rejected and dejected by the father. Because Babysister was catered to throughout her childhood, she grows up to be the epitome of selfishness. Her adult behavior will make you hate her guts. Because Babysister wants what she wants and is bound and determined to get it at any cost - even the cost of losing her life-long best friend, you will find yourself shaking your head in disgust and amazement over some of the antics she pulls. The worst of these is stealing her life-long best friend [Debra's] boyfriend. She tries unsuccessfully to steal him a second time, and then later thinks she has stolen him once again. The third time's no charm though.

If you love hating Babysister, you will delight in hating her male counterpart, Darren (Debra's boyfriend). Darren is the epitome of male dog, but he is such a smooth operator that you will not know that he is really a wolf in sheaves clothing.

Please, Please, Please will engage your thoughts and make you wonder what Babysister will be up to next. I can almost guarantee that you will not want to put this book down. Please, Please, Please is that good.

Summary: To Vain
Review: There are not many books that I do not like. But this one just didn't grab my attention. I did not like Babysister from the beginning. It was so shallow and vain. Even though I know these things happen everyday, I prefer not to read about them. Babysister was just plain stupid and a spoiled brat. As I continued to read the book, I was very disappointed how the relationships of each character turned out. Hopefully Renee Swindle's next book will be better.

Summary: Please don't buy!
Review: This is what I call garbage reading. Babysister was just too shallow and selfish for her own good. To make matters worst, I couldn't finish reading the whole book. It was a waste in my opinion. I felt like I had to force myself to read the book. The woman and her peers obviously had no ambition whatsoever. I hate reading books stereotyping African American woman as trifling and conviving. I'm sorry, but this book was not a favorite. Hopefully Ms. Swindles next work will be more uplifting.

Summary: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get this book now
Review: With a powerful punch of her characters, and well written plot and dialogues, Renee Swindle pulls in her readers within the first pages of this book. Her main character "BabySister" is a no-nonsense, go-gettem' sistah who don't take any punches at all. She goes for broke, and i mean that literally. This is a well written novel by a first time author and i really enjoyed the book. I purchased this book on 7/31 and finished it today (8/1) so that tells you one thing. Once you begin to read this interesting tale of friendship and love, and go through the journeys with BabySister, Darren, and Deborah you will not put this book down until the last drop. These characters are warm, funny, witty, and keep you coming back for more. Watch out Terry McMillan, cause Ms. Swindle is coming up right back at 'cha.

Summary: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
Review: I truly enjoyed this novel. I look forward to your next release. This book shows what life is really like, the characters were real. Babysitter was definitely a Cold blooded, scandalous little heifer, but that's why they say keep your friends close, but your enemies closer!

Summary: good first one
Review: Babysister, was something else. Babysister risked her friendship with her bestfriend, over a man, and had the nerve not to try to make things right, with her friend angela, when she wanted to put everything behind them, even though it was Babysister's fault. In a way i think babysister got what she deserved with Darren. But i loved her humor

Summary: Sweetest taboo
Review: My bigmama always said, "don't let no no-good man come between you and a good friend."

Oooh, Babysister, how could you?

Kudos to Renee Swindle! She explored one of sisterhood's greatest taboos with finesse and a startling insight that makes me wonder if this one came from personal experience.

Definitely, a must read... (and when you're done, lend it to your best friend)!

Summary: Okay...but
Review: I somewhat enjoyed this book. However, there were several things that I just couldn't fathom. For starters, the name Babysister is very unique which will naturally arouse curiosity in the reader to want to know the origin of her name. However, there was none provided. Did I miss something? Throughout the book, I kept looking for that information, however, after the first fifty pages, I decided to give up. Also, the author never mentioned Babysister's age throughout the entire book. She spoke of how this person was a few years older than that person and so forth but she never did disclose this information. Again, did I miss something? These minor details are important because they help the reader to better identify with the characters being portrayed. Lastly, I felt like the author exaggerated too much at times about the extent to which some situations would occur. In one instance she mentioned that one of her uneducated ex-boyfriend's manner of having fun was climbing trees and used this to generally refer to the opposite demeanor of the intellectual men she dated. This was too extreme. On the whole this book was okay. If you're looking for something fun with some meaning, this is not the book to read. The main character alone can be a complete turnoff. She was extremely shallow with no turnaround in her character toward the end of the book. Renee Swindle proves to be a talented writer. I would have really enjoyed this book, however, the book was purely negative from start to finish. There was really no growth in the main character throughout the entire book.
