Rating: Summary: Are You Sure This Is a Debut Novel Review: I really enjoyed this author's style of writting. And the characters were well developed, I loved Babysister even though she made her fair share of mistakes she still was very headstrong and did what she had to do. I did'nt like the way she treated Debra but in reality things like this happen. And I did'nt like Darren, he played both women well, but all in all they let him do it. I recommand this book for anyone who loves a good read.

Rating: Summary: great debut Review: Please Please Please is an outstanding debut by a talented new author. Babysister and the whole cast of characters are vivid, quirky, and unique. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a fun yet well-crafted read and can appreciate the narrator despite her self-destructive flaw.
Rating: Summary: Oh my, oh my, oh my Review: I purposely put off reading this book because when I heard the protaganist sets out to steal her best friend's man, I was immediately turned off. There is enough written on that subject in black contemporary writing. But this book kept beckoning me. I was right about one thing. I did not like the character of Babysister. Selfish, self-absorbed, conceited, hard-headed, impulsive, all these adjectives and more like them describe this flighty sister. I try to look for the good in somebody but she had so many bad points, the good was hard to discern. This girl had the nerve to steal her friend's man and then have an attitute with her when her friend and man got back together. Go figure!. Unfortunately, I guess there are some real Babysisters out there. Imagine going to a man's wedding and try to seduce him in the church. My Lord! I really started to dislike this woman and then I thought rather than keep harping on how bad a person she is look at it as a psychological defect to be so wrapped in yourself that nobody else matters. She went after James because her friend wasn't right for him. Babysister took the fact that she saw her mother killed at four years old to justify being a spoiled brat. She repeatedly said, "I always get what I want!". The child needed a therapist bad and her relationship with her brother was also dysfunctional. All in all, the writing was good and characters well-developed and I will read the next book Ms. Swindle writes. He was a d
Rating: Summary: Excellent Writing Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Please Please Please. I read it after reading another romance novel that was very poorly written so Ms. Swindle's novel was like a breath of fresh air. From the beginning, you can tell that Ms. Swindle has a gift. She submerges herself into her characters, so you get true, crisp individuals. You may not like Babysister, but you FEEL something for her. Anger, disgust, sympathy, compassion... something. Because Ms. Swindle makes us feel it.This book is great light reading. In the genre of African-American romantic/fiction novels, I believe Ms. Swindle has a great future because she has the gift and shows in this book that she knows how to use it.Get this book. It'll make you feel something. Peace.
Rating: Summary: Low-class garbage Review: I'm so disappointed in this book. I cant believe a black woman would right anything this negative. She used every negative stereotype possible about black people and passed it off as a novel. The scary thing is black people actually liked it. She characterized Babysister as an uneducated, ghettofied scandalous freak. Not only that, she made it seem like dark-skinned Babysister was inferior and had to settle for freaky sex on the side with a professional black man, while Deborah was the one he wanted as a trophy piece wife figure because she was light-skinned and so called beautiful. I was shocked to see a picture of what the author looked liked. She made Deborah look bad being a Christian. Deborah was simple minded, scripture quoting and got no respect from any one in the novel. She was weak instead of a strong Christian black woman and the message was, trust in GOD and still get the wool pulled over your eyes. She really did damage to the black men. Babysister's brother was a no count who not only had no manhood or sense of responsibility, had no identity outside of the women, who had the domineering roles in his relationships. The father was a grief stricken widower who had little to offer his children and could hardly keep them from bickering. Babysister's off and on boyfriend Marcus was an insipid pushover. Darren was a complete hound with no character or moral fiber what so ever. He had no respect for any of the black women in the novel and was very destructive in thier lives and got away with it with no recompense. These are just the main characters. The other black character's in the book had herpes, were described as unattractive, nosey and had the worst of taste. This was truly one of the most negative non- edifying books I've read in a long time. Mrs. Swindle has the skills, I hope she does better than this next time.
Rating: Summary: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Review: The humor was there, but the book lacked depth. From the beginning Babysister lusted and went after a man that belonged to her best friend. What ever happened to loyalty amongst friends? Despite all the backstabbing Babysister learns a lot about love and friendship. In the end they both discover that Darren aka "Mr. Wonderful" was nothing but a three-timing D-O-G. Just goes to show you can't judge a man by his boots. I will definitely check Ms. Swindle out the next go round.
Rating: Summary: Instant entertainment! Review: I read the whole 323 pages of Please, Please, Please on a plane flying over the Atlantic! As some reviewers argue, it may not be a masterpiece but at least it makes you want to read on and on-- without a single moment of boredom. I'm definitely looking forward to more books by Renée Swindle!
Rating: Summary: Keeps going and going Review: We have all, at one time in our life, have run into "Babysister". She is the type of women you keep your 'special someone' away from. Unfortunately for her "best friend" she finds out a little too late. You wonder when and if Babysister will ever get hers - she sees no wrong. This book was good and easy reading. Up to the very end, it leaves you wondering what will happen next. Even with her secret relationship with Darren, you see yourself flipping sides.
