Summary: breathtaking
Review: I found this book in a local library and borrowed it after thinking the synopsis sounded interesting. Well. I finished reading it two days later and immediately went out to buy my own copy. =)

As I was reading, I kept thinking how it reminded me of Gone with the Wind and the sweeping, epic relationship of Rhett and Scarlett. But then I realised that while it is similar, it's far more enjoyable. Sarah is a heroine you fall in love with immediately. You can relate to her and you find yourself waiting desperately to see what happens next, and you join her in her joys and sorrows, and in her longing for Jack to return from his seemingly endless Army assignments.

"These is ..." is undoubtedly the most amazing book I've had the pleasure of reading in a very long time, and one that I'll go back to time and time again. However, I'm almost sad that I've already discovered this literary masterpiece, as it means the joy and wonder of reading it for the first time is already behind me.

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous!
Review: What a great story! What a great woman is Sarah. I cried buckets at the end. I have recommended this to everyone I know.

Where can I find out more about Nancy Turner and the diary upon which this book is based? I would love to know more.

Summary: This was a GREAT book! I loved it
Review: I just loved this book. I looked forward to reading it every day and hated for it to end. Sarah is a wonderful heroine and a wonderful character. Please read this book!

Summary: Absolutely captivating-didn't want it to end.
Review: This book consumed me for several days and I did not want it to end. Sarah was on my mind for weeks. Her strength, compassion and faith have inspired me. I have recommended this book to many, many friends. They, in turn have recommended it to many more. Two of my friends have nieces or grandaughters, ages 10 to 14, and they said these young women loved this compelling story also. Several men I know have read it and were caught up in the tales of Indians, the cavalry and the early West. Thank, you, Nancy for a wonderful story. I will reread this book again and again.

Summary: So Sad to Finish It!
Review: I'm expecting a baby soon, and my best friend enclosed this book for me along with a baby gift. I can't imagine a more wonderful gift than this book. I recently read "Cold Mountain" and thought that it was my all-time favorite ... well, "These Is My Words" has topped "Cold Mountain"! I wish I had the discipline to have read it slower, but I devoured it and now feel almost mournful at having finished it. I agree with the earlier poster ... I, too, pictured Jack as looking like the actor Sam Elliot. I also agree with another poster that I hope this is not made into a movie ... it's a precious treasure on its own. I loved Sarah, in fact I almost felt as if I became her charcter ... I felt as strong and courageous, yet at the same time as vulnerable, as she. It was a great character to live through! I fell in love with Jack, and I'm still angry at him for getting himself killed! While I almost feel disloyal recommending another book right now, in this same vein is "The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All" (which is VERY long, so you can savor it a bit), and of course "Cold Mountain" (which is a much slower pace than "These Is..." but an amazing tale of the rugged pioneer spirit and a poignant love story). "These Is..." and many of the other books about this era make me a bit ashamed to see how "soft" we have become as people at the 20th century's end ... we take for granted so many modern conveniences ... the people in these novels didn't have the luxury of being lazy, and they seemed to have much richer lives in spite of it.

Summary: A very good and satisfying read.
Review: This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I could believe this book really happened and it makes you not want to put it down.I found myself wanting to "save" it when I got to the last 25 pages. I hope Nancy Turner writes another....it was simply great.

Summary: Read this book - NOW!!!
Review: I am so envious of people who haven't yet read this book, since they have the most amazing experience in front of them. This is the book that has EVERYTHING you could ever wish for - adventure, excitement, happiness, sorrows, and the most amazing love-story. You know how most love-stories always seem to fade once the couple gets each other - this love-story only gets better. And you will be so happy for the heroine Sarah, because she will become your new best friend. You will laugh with her, and cry with her and your heart will beat just as fast as hers when Jack is around. I've come to love Sarah so much that I find myself thinking quite often these days: What would Sarah think of this and that. This book reminded me of another great book by Miles Franklin, "My brilliant career". Read both of these books, and I personally guarantee you will have the time of your life!

Summary: There are no words to describe how wonderful this book is.
Review: This book cannot be properly summed up in words, it must be experienced with the heart. Ms Turner does a superb job in sharing with the reader the true essence of each character. The book draws you in until you feel that you have become part of Sarah's family. I will be thinking of Jack and Sarah for a long time to come.

Summary: A magical and captivating book
Review: It is hard to explain why this book is so special. Beautifully written, it has a lyrical but realistic style and the characters are truly alive to the reader. I can imagine re-reading this book for many years... I recently loaned it to a friend who had been profoundly depressed and it worked its magic on her too. I look forward to more books from this writer...
