Rating: Summary: These Is My Words Review: Absolutely enjoyed this book. Nancy Turner does a wonderful job of letting the reader enter this time period. I live in Sedona, Az and the book created for me how it really was back then. Sarah Prine will always be in memory along with Captain Elliot and others.
Rating: Summary: Indian fighting, murder, passion, and pink soap... Review: When I began reading this book, I was, at first, annoyed by the prose. The author intentionally used misspelled words throughout the first few pages-- not to mention horrible grammar-- and I find that exhausting to read! However, after heroine Sarah Prine gets her hands on a newspaper and a wonderful young woman helps her learn to read and write a bit better, Sarah Prine's words become an adventurous, thrilling report of her life in the American West.
This book is loaded with adventure (Indian attacks, shooting contests, rape attempts, childbirth, and train robbery!!). I loved that the main character has a thirst for knowledge and love of books, too. She is easy to relate to, and impossible to dislike. I like Sarah because she is independent, sassy, and very real. Sarah's tongue is sharp, but her soul is so good, and it was exciting to read about her passion and lust for Jack and then watch their lives fall into place together.
This book was absolutely convincing as the diary of a young woman out West so many years ago. I found myself wondering about Sarah Prine as though she were a real person more than a few times... Also, as a Tucson resident, the parts about the erection of the university and the climate of the city back then were particularly interesting.
I could not put this book down. I stayed up three nights in a row, reading until 2 or 3 in the morning, just to find out what could possibly happen next. I laughed at the scrapes the characters found themselves in, and how they reacted to them, and I sobbed for half an hour as I turned the last few pages. To find out why, you will simply have to read this wonderful new piece of literature...
Rating: Summary: One of My Top Five Favorite Books Review: One word: Magnificent! This is a wonderful story of courage, spirit of the heart, mind and body, a love story, family, strength. I could not put the book down. The book is a wonderful account of the life those faced during the late 1800's in the territories. Read this book! It will change your life.
Rating: Summary: One For The Heart Review: These Is My Words, was recommended to me by my local library, as I was checking out a number of books concerning frontier life. Little did I realize that my heart was about to be touched in ways, ways that will last forever, by Sarah and her life. There is such an innocence in Sarah, and in the times in which she lived, that I found so refreshing and uplifting. I will always remember the day after I finished the book, I took a extened trip along a southern, tree-lined highway. I was facing some problems of my own and needed time to think of what to do, but somehow I just couldn't get Sarah out of my mind and I just kept thinking about her and I wondered how she handled her life after the book's ending....and it suddenly became so clear to me. Sarah simply went on living her life, loving her children, loving Jack and watching the stars. I realized then that I had to do the same, I had to simply go on living. Once again Sarah's life had encouraged me. There is a passage in the book where Sarah gives her own blood (through tranfusion) to her sister-in-law, Savannah. The doctor is questioning whether Sarah has the right blood type for the procedure, and Sarah then makes the statement that she and Savannah are, "Sisters under the skin closer than some by nature." This is how you will feel about Sarah while reading this wonderful story. You will become one with her and she will become part of your heart forever. Sarah is now my "Angel Sister", she will always be with me. And you will just have to read the book to come to know the true meaning of this. Thank you Nancy Turner for sharing a part of your life with us all!
Rating: Summary: Incredible book Review: This book is not in my usual reading genre, but I actually feel blessed that someone brought it to my attention. I didn't want to stop reading the book, I thought about it all day when I wasn't reading, and I wished the book didn't have to end. Also cried on the airplane as I finished it up. Amazing amazing book.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: It has been a long time since I have read a book that I literally couldn't put down. This book has been making the rounds of my friends. I was lent the copy I read but intend to buy one for my library. I finished the book yesterday and find myself lonely for the characters today because I felt so involved in their lives. One thing all of us who have read it agree on...we would never make it as pioneer women. It gave me a new appreciation for my mother's family who were.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put in down Review: I acually found this book at a garage sale, and don't know why anyone would want to sell this book, as it is a keeper for me. I could not put it down. A beautiful story of a strong woman during the periods of 1881-1901. I loved the main character Sarah, and enjoyed following her life and watching her grow, and live through all kinds of experiences. I wish I could have been there, but after reading this book I felt as though I have been there. It sure gave me an escape for a while from this life in 2001. Thank you Nancy Turner.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book of all time. Review: I don't want to say a lot about the plot - this is a book every woman should read. I also found it sad to finish the book. I finished the book 10 minutes before midnight on New Year's Eve and it was the best way to spend the last few minutes of 2000. Through the course of reading the book I felt like I had been transplanted back in time. I felt like I could have been Sarah. This was the best book I have ever read. What an amazing gift Nancy E. Turner has given us.
Rating: Summary: A love story above all Review: As I read other customer's reviews, I agree that Sarah is an attractive heroine--we can't help but be drawn to her character. Yet for me the highlight of the novel is the character of Captain Jack Elliot. I found my heart beating so fast each time he was mentioned in one of Sarah's journal entries, just as if I had fallen in love with him myself! Comparisons of Jack and Sarah to Rhett and Scarlett are very shallow; this pair beats the Gone With the Wind couple hands down! Oh where are the Jack Elliot's of our day? If only we had more men like him, men whose love is pure and selfless, who love their mates with everything that is within them, and then some! Nancy Turner, you have swept me away with your beautiful protrayal of Jack and Sarah. Thanks for such a thrilling, all-consuming novel, and for the opportunity to "live" the lives of these characters and times which are, just like the civil war days, gone with the wind. Your book has helped me to appreciate the part of the world I live in, and to see it with new eyes. I had the opportunity to fly over Cienega Creek in a small private airplane just a few days ago, and it was thrilling, to say the least, to look down upon the area where Sarah and Jack and their family lived out (fictionally) their eventful, full lives. For those of you who have not read this book, don't wait any longer to pick it up! You will absolutely love it!
Rating: Summary: Wow! Breathtaking Review: I can't add anything to what anyone here has said. READ THIS BOOK! It was a page-turner from beginning to end. I couldn't wait for her to come to her senses and see that Jack loved her. Seems everybody but her knew about it. I hated to see it end, but I kind of knew that it had to end that way. I hope they don't make a movie because the movie could never, ever do justice to the power of the book. I agree that Sam Elliot 15 years ago would make a perfect Jack (or maybe Tom Selleck), but he's too old for the part now. (Sigh! What a hearthrob!) Love it, love it, love it. Definitely worth owning.
