Rating: Summary: Instant classic Review: "These is My Words" immediately became one of my favorite books. I will have to reread it soon, because I devoured it too quickly, needing to know what happened next. Hard to believe this is not an actual diary as it reads like real life. At the same time, the author has some lovely literary tricks up her sleeve. Let's hope they DON'T make this into a movie, as its charm is very much in the written word.
Rating: Summary: An captivating account of a pioneer woman's grip on life. Review: Sarah Prine could have been any woman-of-today's great grandmother. Nancy Turner was fortunate to have found her great grandmother's diary and more fortunate yet, to have had a great grandmother who kept a diary of her most private feelings and thoughts. While it is true that Sarah's life was a great adventure and reads as such, the story also touches some very disturbing events that still trouble women today. Ms. Turner treats these events with compassion and honesty in the voice of Sarah Prine. But the reader cannot escape the question of "could I have handled the situation if it had been me?" I devoured the novel in just a few sittings but Sarah will stay with me for a long time. It is truely a good "one horse book." I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the kind of women who were our pioneering ancestors and of whom we can be proud.
Rating: Summary: A real page-turning whirlwind of a romp. Review: I knew I was going to love Sarah Agnes Prine from the beginning. She is by turns fearless, sassy, lovable, hard headed and aggravating. All of Ms. Turner's characters are so vivid and their story so compelling that I felt lonely when I finished the book. This one is a keeper and one I highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down! Review: This is one of the most fascinating books I have read in years. I almost felt sad when I was finished--I didn't want the story to end. The characters are so well written. Would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: I stayed up half the night to finish this book. Sarah Prine is someone I would like to know. And I'd for sure like to have here around if the bad guys decide to attack.
Rating: Summary: This is bound for the best sellers list. Review: It took me only 3 days to read the entire book and then immediately leant it to a friend and have another one waiting. I would love to know about Sarah until here last day. When do they start filming the movie?
Rating: Summary: This is a real page Turner. Review: I read this book from start to finish without putting it down. Sarah as a woman is neither prissy, bawdy, or shallow, she's just a real person who takes life as she finds it and gives us a realistic view of life as a woman in old Arizona.
Rating: Summary: You will enjoy immensely!!!! Review: "These is my words" will keep you reading to see what Sarah will come up against next. History laid out before you, to wander through, never leaving you bored.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful! Review: I read the excerpts of this novel in Good Housekeeping, and I was so taken by it that I rushed out to buy the book! I've had it for a month now and I've already read it twice. These is My Words is by far the best book I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Turner is Tops in Debut Review: Sarah Agnes Prine, the heroine of Nancy E Turner's first novel, "These Is My Words", is a strong -- and strong-minded -- young woman. Raised with a passel of brothers, she learned to hunt, ride bareback, and "shoot a tick off a dog's back" at an early age. Written journal style, the story chronicles Sarah's life in the Arizona Territory from 1881 to 1901. It details encounters with Indians and outlaws, immigrants and soldiers, especially one particular Army captain whose path seems to cross hers frequently. Sarah's journal records births and deaths, many violent, and some by her own hand. It tells of her first, loveless marriage, and following her husband's untimely death, her second marriage to Captain Jack Elliot. "I love him with all the love I have ever had," she wrote. Sarah is a lusty, gutsy, surprising heroine with a healthy share of feminism for her time. The book, winner of the Arizona Author Award and finalist for the Willa Cather Literary award, offers an intriguing glimpse of southwestern history as lived by real people. A thoroughly absorbing and enjoyable read.
