Rating: Summary: Top Notch!!! A must read!!! Review: This book is incredible. It starts off as just another millennium thriller, but then the novel takes a very refreshing and unexpected turn. Plenty of action, well-research computer technology, and terrific characters. This is my first Pineiro, but certainly not my last. Kudos to the author!
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in years!! Review: Simply an outstanding and very original story, packed with suspense, action, plots twists, and unforgettable characters. You have to read this story. Heck, buy two and give one to a friend.
Rating: Summary: I want my money back Review: A weak effort. In addition to a weak plot and a strange ending, this book was full of typos and miss printed words. The technical descriptions were poor and the author had an annoying habit of restating entire scenes and descriptions from only a few pages earlier. To top it all off I still cannot comprehend how the evil hacker is responsible for the heroine's personal tragedy.
Rating: Summary: fast read and not what you would expect Review: This book was a fresh take on the y2k issuse we are facing. The author presents an exciting twist and it shows that he did his homework. This book reads like a fast paced Tom Clancy novel. You might want to wait for the paperback because you go through the book so fast.... your left wanting more....especially considering the price of admission.
Rating: Summary: technology meets the supernatural Review: This book started out as your typical techno-thriller. The synopsis on the sleeve gave only a slight hint of what was to come. The further you get into the book, you realized how well researched and well told the story is. I knew a little about the mayans but upon completion of this book, i was totally amazed at just how complex and clever the mayans were. at times, it felt like you needed to have a Ph.d. in mathematics to understand what was happening, but, with a little patience all is revealed. All in all, this story makes Scully & Mulder's exploits seem like child's play.
Rating: Summary: Involving, Fast-paced Novel Review: This is the first book of R.J. Pineiro's I have read. It is not particularly well written, but not poorly written. It is a good distraction, though, and quite entertaining. It is fast-paced, involving, and suspenseful. Though not in the upper echelons of literature, it is worth the time to pick it up and turn the pages.
Rating: Summary: good milenium thriller Review: In 1998, a talented hacker Bloodaxe gained vengeance on the officials of Washington DC for firing him by wrecking their computer-based transportation system code. His sabotage left Susan Garnett in a coma and her spouse and daughter dead. It was almost two years before cybercop Susan caught Bloodaxe, who now resides in prison. Depressed and thinking she has nothing further to live for, Susan contemplates suicide. However, Troy Reid, head of the FBI's high tech crime unit, interrupts her thoughts by telling her that with twenty days to the millennium, all computers around the world froze for twenty seconds at the same time. The next day, computers freeze for nineteen seconds as if they keep pace with the countdown to the millennium. As the computer clock counts down to potential doom, Susan turns to her worst nightmare Bloodaxe for help as she investigates this strange virus. Soon they trace its origin to the ruins of Tikal, which is an ancient Mayan city located in the Guatemalan jungle. Susan accompanied by Mayan anthropologist Cameron Slater head to the jungle to learn the truth and to shut down a most deadly virus. 01-01-00 is a well-designed millennium high tech thriller. The story line is unique, fast-paced, and never buries the reader in scientific jargon. One of the charms of R.J. Pineiro's novel is those understandable explanations that always completely flow within the plot. Thus, asides to the audience or simply ignoring the reader never occurs. The complex sub-plots merge into an interesting climax where the modern world converges with the ancient world in a wondrous novel that deserves much acclaim. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: On a scale from 1 to 10, this is an 11. Review: A cracking good story. Lots of pseudo-facts about hacking, and the Maya culture. An excellent read! A must read!!
Rating: Summary: epilogue killed a great book Review: The plot was interesting and I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had been more computer literate. The explanations of the computer programs went well over the head of most of the public, as most of us are not into programing and hacking. However by skipping most of that and reading the rest, the book was entertaining.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Review: I know one thing never judge a book by its cover. I took one look at this book and said "ok, nerd book." Once i read it i took it into high consideration. This book also inspired me to keep practiceing at programming and soon I'll be just as good as these people. I highly recommend this book and other books by R. J. Pineiro
