Rating: Summary: Pit Bull, yes, indeed. Review: Schwartz is cocky and audacious. Here's a man who's goal in life was to be the best trader in the world, the big Kahuna, the Number One. He tells you his story. He tells you the tools he uses to trade. Although his detailed methodology is not spelled out, you feel the human, and intuitively know what he does, or think you do. What makes this book so good is the subtle challenge that you feel in the writing. It's like Buzzy is saying to you, "Here it is folks. I'm the best. If you can do better, here's how, why don't you try."
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest. Review: Martin Schwartz is an incredible genius. This book is absolutely amazing. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down for a moment, I read the book within a day or two. Offers many great insights to the business, and also an amazing read overall. This is hands down one of the best trading books I've ever read, the only thing that comes close is Reminiscences of a Stock Operator and Market Wizards by Schwager, where Schwartz is interviewed in that among others. Martin Schwartz is the greatest trader Wall Street has ever seen, there are others but none so compelling as his story.
Rating: Summary: Great Trading Material! Review: This audio book is great. Even though it is abridged, I don't feel like I am missing anything. You can feel the intensity of the floor. You also get insights into how to succeed (lifestyle notes and life planning are thrown in here and there). The narration is good -- I usually dislike audio books because they are done so poorly, but this one is top-notch. This should be in your tape player.
Rating: Summary: Fun Story of a Successful Trader Review: If you enjoy books on trading or investing that are the story of someone's life you will get a kick out of this book. The story of Buzzy Schwartz is fun to read and will motivate you to become a trader. The final chapters give you some tips and tricks on actual trading. However, if you are looking for a how to book on trading you will have to look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Not bad Review: I bought the audio version and it was pretty good . Could've done without the language, as i was disappointed to here a professional talk like that, and he dwelled tooo much on his sickness, which really hurt the review.
Rating: Summary: Excellent look in to the psychology of a trader Review: If you are looking for a book that will tell you how to be a day trader, don't buy this. However, if you have been trading on a small scale for a while, and wish to take your trading to the next level, then this book is perfect. It does not teach strategies or systems, and doesn't make any attempt to. What it teaches is what kind of mental fortitude it takes to be a top trader. There are myriad books on the market that can tell you how to pick a stock, or when to buy or short, but few that can teach you what it is like to be long when the market is crashing around you, or how it feels to know that tomorrow the banks may not open, and you have to get liquid, fast. Besides, if you read between the lines a bit, you may wind up finding a trading strategy or two in the story itself (not just in the appendix in the back). Here's a hint...compare how October 87 behaved to how September 01 behaved...and then remember what Zoellner said.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Great! Review: Buzzy,Thanks for the great book. I truly enjoyed reading and learning from your experiences. I hope that your are healthy and taking money out of the market.
Rating: Summary: Down to Earth Review: Most of the book is about Marty's personal experience as he matures as a professional trader. Most folks will not like that approach but I did. Oftentimes my own experiences were very similar to what Marty had undergone. It gave me some deeper wisdom and understanding about myself as a human being. After a little of inner reflection after reading the book, I am also seeing myself to have much improved as a trader. I now know why he titled his book, "Pit Bull". I already had the system and the tools to make it work. What was lacking was an understanding of my weaknesses and tendencies that can be dangerous to a trader. His technique is truly for short term trading of the S&P ( I trade the Naz). Do not use it for other markets that are not similar.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and educational Review: Pit Bull is a very entertaining book about a real trader. So far I have never read a book I didn't like that was actually written by a real trader. As opposed to someone who does "research" or just writes a market letter or better yet a trading coach. If you can get past his massive ego you can really learn tons and be entertained all at the same time. He says many times in the book that he liked selling his favorite commodity: which was Martin Schwartz. It wasn't surprising to me that he never made money trading until Audrey (his wife) told him to make a plan. He never had a plan to make money and he never did until his wife told him to. The second thing I learned from this book is how he has a lot of self-confidence in himself which is a nice way to say that he has a big ego. But the bottom line was that he knew that he could make money because he had a plan and worked hard to achieve it. Another tidbit learned was that he was always prepared for the market and on days in which he wasn't he didn't trade well. The bottom line is if you are looking for the same indicators, ratios, or methods that he uses this book won't teach you that. We probably wouldn't even make money off them even if he spelled them out for us. The real secret is the attitude and the other stuff that so many traders don't do or take for granted. He took notes on the market and recorded them so he could refer back to his feelings and learn from his mistakes to be a better trader. These types of things are the real secret but most people want to look for the magic indicator that will take them to the promised land. If you want to look inside the mind of a real trader and want to be entertained at the same time you should buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Great story and fun to listen to. Review: This refers to the audio tape version: This high rolling story was great fun. It's refreshing to hear a tape actually read by the author - it makes the story so much more alive. I found myself sitting in my car for a few extra minutes whenever I got to where I was going just so I could find out what happened next. I bought the abridged version of the audio tape but now wish I bought the longer tapes. Highly recommended if you enjoy trading stories.
