Summary: Better than the other, similar books
Review: A very enjoyable book. It has more interesting detail about operations than books like "Rogue Warrior," without the obscenity, which may dissapoint some readers. Gormly is rough on Marcinko, even going back to the Vietnam period... "he was leading from the rear." Ouch! Gormly oversaw, and participated in, so many high profile military conflicts that it is a "must read" for anyone who likes combat books.

Summary: A well written book(planetharmonia@hotmail.com)
Review: An honest, well-written book. Capt. Gormly was the first CO to lead SEAL TEAM 6 into combat. This is a must read for those interested in the evolution of TEAM 6. A very revealing book! It also answered Numerous questions I had after reading the Rogue Warrior novel, with its numerous vague references, and down right misinformation. Thank you Mr. Gormly for your book and its invaluable information that others will refer to when they want historical truth. Bottom line, Well worth reading!
OH...the chapter concerning the downing of Seawolf 1-5 may have an error. The pilot named Soto was on Seawolf 1-4 that night according to the latest book by Daniel E. Kelly. Anyway, thank you for a valuable book for historians and the ages.

Summary: Well-written, factual, honest, thoughtful, enjoyable
Review: Bob Gormley has given us (finally) a balanced and realistic look at the business of being a Navy SEAL. The craft of Special Operations is one that reguires intregety, hard work, courage, discipline and judgement. Especially judgement. It is NOT a trade where profanity, abuse and anti-social behavior are required or even tolerated. Nicely done Bob! But it'll never get you a spot on Larry King Live.

Summary: A level above all previous SEAL/Spec Ops books
Review: Bob Gormly's biography on his 30 years in the SEAL community brought me closer to the real thing than any prior book. His experiences are in more detail and better written than most, giving you an insight into this man and the SEAL community. It is exciting, it flows, and covers so much more ground than other books. The political/bureaucratic environment in which he had to maneuver is made so real and human. Mistakes and tragedies acknowledged firsthand, with a feeling you are there and can understand. The Marcinko myth is given some real perspective that we all needed to hear. This a great book about a great guy and hero, as all who put themselves at risk are. Couldn't put it down. A must read for all young men considering Special Operations. I waited a long time to find a book like this.

Summary: FACTUAL, INTENSE CHILLING SYNOPSIS OF HIS CAREER
Review: CDR. GORMLEY HAS DONE A MASTERFUL STORYTELLING JOB IN RECREATING HIS ADVENTURES AS A NAVY SEAL AND AS COMMANDER OF A SEAL TEAM.HE REALLY HELD MY ATTENTION AND I LOOKED FORWARD TO EACH READING SESSION...I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK HIGHLY TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN HOW THE US MILITARY WORKS/OPERATES AND SOME OF THE POLITICS INVOLVED.

Summary: A superb book from someone who was there to see it all.
Review: Cpt. Gormly tells of his experiences in Vietnam, Grenada, the Achille Lauro incident and other times with the expertise of a true combat veteran. This is an excellent account of the action, as well as the politics, for anyone interested in the history of the SEALS. A story which will captivate anyone who reads it. The best book on the SEALS, from one of the best.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Job well done
Review: Gormly tells his stories as he would telling it to you face to face. Riveting, factual, impressive, this book delivers, but at times seems as he still can't say all that he wants to. He actually skips over ten to thirteen years of his career and then quickly brushes over them in the next chapter. Oddly structed, the book is still easy to read and accomplish in one to three days. The 'Nam experience is certainly the best and well executed, many of the later parts seemed brushed over and vaguely displayed. Check it out, it's factual and to the point, it's an honest read. His rant about terrorism at the end is the best way to put it, his position is always right on.

Summary: COMBAT SWIMMER a must read
Review: I couldn't put the book down. Capt. Robert A. Gormly tells it like it is. Because of this book I have decided to join the Navy SEALs. For a book to influence me like that it has to be a excellent book.
