Rating: Summary: A Childhood Favorite Review: I am currently a mother of 42 and I still remember this as one of my all-time favorite books I read as a girl of 12. I bought it for my daughter for her birthday, and she absolutely loves it. I agree, it is hard to find books these days that are still about families and childhood in this way. Life is not perfect, but troubles are those active young girls can understand, and the world, taken as a whole, is a good place. A classic of quality.
Rating: Summary: A childhood staple Review: I can remember my mother reading this book aloud to me as a child; one chapter a night. It didn't take long for me to decide that I couldn't wait for her to get to the next installment. I credit this book (one of many) that led to my lifelong, love affair with reading. It's among the top five books I'm collecting now to read aloud to my own daughter. She may only be 2 months old; but, it's never too early to introduce little girls to Katy and family. This book will never go out of style...life lessons are always in vogue.
Rating: Summary: The Heart of the House Review: I had a really hard time getting into this book. I thought that the beginning was kind of boring. The book picked up though after Katy's accident and from then on it was really intresting. I liked the way Katy changed and grew up.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good once it got moving Review: I had a really hard time getting into this book. I thought that the beginning was kind of boring. The book picked up though after Katy's accident and from then on it was really intresting. I liked the way Katy changed and grew up.
Rating: Summary: If you are a Book-lover, (and are a girl), Read This Review: I liked this book a lot, but in the end, I'm always rather dissapointed at Katy's new demeaner. Obviously, she wasn't bad before, she just had energy. Defintaly read the others, such as "What Katy Did at School", and the one about Katy traveling through Europe, the title of which I've forgotten. Anyway, Katy's new attitude is rather boring and timid, but Rose, of "What Katy Did at School", is a wonderful character, so I highly reccomend this series.
Rating: Summary: Great book... Fun for anyone over fifth grade Review: I LOVED this book. No really I couldn't set it down. The first in the series of books about the Carr family this book was an enduring reminder of the love that one can build for themselves even with some type of handicap. The charicatures are so realistic that at times they seem to jump out of the page at you. Anyone can relate to this story and make conections between themselves and loved ones to this book. The reading level is about right for anyone in the fifth grade to adulthood. In truth although I am far beyond that grade, I found the book to be quite satisfying and without many flaws
Rating: Summary: Lovely - just what books in this genre should be Review: The Carrs have always been my family friends, so to speak... I recently re-read this book, having loved it as a pre-teen, and I found out that it was still able to make me laugh and cry. The plot follows the growth of young Katy, focusing on her unfortunate accident and the consequences it has on her and her family. Naturally, a part of my strongly positive reaction was nostalgia, but nevertheless this is a beautifully written story, both moving and humorous, full of imaginative magic and the cosy warmth of a loving home at the same time. The characters are lovable and memorable - is there a girl who couldn't identify herself with the clumsy, unfortunate Katy or admire the saint-like, yet fully human cousin Helen? At the risk of sounding like a walking cliche, I must say that they just don't write books like this any longer: clean, wholesome and still totally satisfying and entertaining. But even if the whole world ran after the latest shock values, I would always be coming back to books like these - books for a girl who loves to read.
Rating: Summary: they keep on saying what katy did and didn`t Review: then god suggest that i should try the school of love and pai
Rating: Summary: YES! Review: This book is absolutely INCREDIBLE! IT's excellent!!! Worth a million bucks! My copy has been loved to death. I got it at the same time as Little Women...five years ago...and I thought Little Women was awful because I read this book first and it was SO good. It's sort of like Little Women or an Austen book minus the romance. It's very, very, good and I recommend it highly!
Rating: Summary: YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK! Review: This book is the best in the WORLD! "What Katy Did" is a highly recommend book (according to me). The book is mainly about a girl named Katy. She finds out that her never seen before cousin, Helen, is coming. She gets in a terrible accident. You figure out what happens before, in between, and after those parts. This book draws you into it right away, I didn't want to put the book down. I think that this is a book for people with a caring heart. Especially girls, although boys may like it too. If you don't read this book that's okay, but you don't know what your missing out on.
